So I bought a new TV at Fry's tonight. Mitsubishi WD-65734 DLP. 65 inches and 1080p. The picture quality is OUTSTANDING! Truly one of the best pictures I've ever seen. Got the five year warranty on this one and if they need to repair it, they do it on-site and if it has to be taken in for service, they give me a loaner TV of the same level.

Best part about it, 500 days no payments, no interest. That goes for all Mits TVs there.

HOWEVER...it has a problem and I'll either have to have it repaired immediately or have them replace it. On the left hand side, on any type of pan, there's a "crease" and the image pulls like a fun-house mirror. We noticed it first on a basketball game. It is about 3/4 the way in from the left hand side. I thought it might be only because of the fast pan in basketball, but I was watching a fireworks show in HD and a very, very slow pan made a rock wall expand out. Then it did it the same way on a bridge...it looked like the bridge was growing longer. Really weird. It isn't a pincushioning issue, and it only happens in that same spot, every time. I'll probably end up having them replace the unit entirely. I couldn't find this issue on the AVS forums and everyone seems to really love the TV other than a whirring issue that some people have. I don't have it (it does make sound cooling, but it is so not noticable unless it is dead silent in the house.

The TV has 4 HDMI inputs, one on the front, and three component inputs (one on the front). I'll be able to hook up my xbox 360directly (which I couldn't do on my old hitachi), as well as my old PS2 and my upcoming Wii (the latter two on the standard jacks, not component). Then I can ditch the switcher device I have which is kind of a pain in the ass.

Really happy with the new TV, even with the problem that will get fixed. It's just got amazing picture quality.

A guy on the AVS forums uploaded these shots of his unit...show the pic quality:

At just under 3K with tax and the 5 year warranty, and no payments until early 2009, (though I'll have it paid off before it comes due) I'm very happy.

I loved the Mitsubishi line, until I had problems with 3 out of the 3 TVs that I owned. The picture was amazing.

I hope you don't have any problems. Oh, and PM me. I have a suggestion for you.

So you get to look at Jack Black's face up close and extra grubby.

Is that what I have to look forward to?

(DCR, how much you think a person can get a good Sharp Aquos for after Xmas?)

Honestly Mulli, you can get more of a TV for the $$ by going another brand.

I helped pick up and set up the TV and it looks awesome. First DLP I have seen in someone's home.

My 57" rear projection Hitachi HDTV (1080i, I think) is still rockin' after 3 years. :)

I love that these TV's now are something that two average sized men can move them around with no problems.

Donald, those pictures themselves show you why you need an HDDVD player. King Kong looks absolutely amazing.

Well, Fry's is going to replace it.

I have to bring it back down there tonight and pick up another one.

Adam, you down for another trip?

Man oh man. That was the sole reason that I went with Sony. It is an "manufacturing defect within Mitsubishi specs" Mitsubishi flat out told me that they could not fix it. I have posted about the issue here even, as well as AVS.

I didnt know that the 2007 models had it, but the 2006 and 2005 models do as well. The best I can understand, to save money, Mitsubishi went to having only one "set" of mirrors. 2004 models and before had 2 sets, and did not have this problem. My brother has the exact same issue, but lives with it. If you can't get a different TV. I couldn't live with it.

Sure, that should be fine. I think Erin and Kim are going to pick up the wedding dress and hit the mall.

It was very pronounced...and a straight line. The expanding bridge was ridiculously weird. I looked at the other ones in the store and did not notice this at all. Fry's had no issue replacing it though.

Does it have a technical name or something because i couldn't find anything about it on AVS.

Broken?

Is it on the left side of the screen. If so, I noticed it when we plugged it in, but felt maybe my eyes hadnt adjusted to the new picture.

Yep, left side about a quarter of the way in. It's like a video time warp.

I don't think that's the same issue. That sounds more like pincushioning on each corner which I did read a bit about.

This is really different, from what I've read. It's a vertical invisible line from top to bottom, not in a corner at all. And it takes the image and basically stretches it for a moment. Only notice it on background images.

Again, I didn't notice it on the floor units at the store, on any of the Mits.

Whatever you decide to do, obviously the faster you do it, the better.

I just haven't had good luck with Mits.

When you had your issues, did you ever get the service manual and do the geometric adjustment steps? That seemed to solve the problems of a few people with the pincushioning.

Curious if you tried it and it didn't work.
