He has a point sometimes players put up huge numbers just bc they are in a contract year but then are never heard from again.

This last season was his first big year in terms of production, his other 3 years were average at best. Was this just because he finally got his shot, or because he was going to be a FA.
Also, why did Denver make no attempts to retain him?

So here is a guy who had a good year last year, but perhaps was in a developmental stage prior.....sort of like Dennis Johnson. He has a good year at the end of his contract, not because it's his contract year, but rather because he has arrived?
Denver has alot of work to do to fix their roster. Bailey helps (but costs big dough)......Portis is gone.....McCaffrey retires....Sharpe is all but over etc. etc. Their eyes are focused on a bigger picture than this guy. He's a FA....they let him test the market because their eyes are on a bigger picture.
Does this remind you of anyone.......allow me to throw out a name.....David Barrett.
This is how teams like New England continue to prosper without becoming a Washington Redskin.

I asked the question on the Broncosboard and the first 2 responses were he's good, a bit small, but they felt they could replace him so they didn't try to keep him at what it would cost. So its not that they felt he was a fluke, solid player not a star.

They have enough credibilty with players to essentially do that. The Cards have none and they can't.

I keep reading that he has potential as a pass rusher, but on the small side, vulnerable against the run. heck, if he's a two down player and can get after the QB, I'LL TAKE HIM!!! Even if it is situational, we need some speed to get after it.
The guy had 6.5 sacks in 2002 and 11.5 sacks in 2003 (25 total in 6 years). If he was just turning it up a notch for his contract year, he must have started in 2002. His tackling totals aren't so great (18 in 2002 and 36 in 2003), but he did force 3 fumbles last year. I never did watch him play and only have his stats to go off of.
BTW, Denver is one of the very few teams over the cap this year and he might be a cap casualty.

When did we last have a player with more than 3 sacks...? SIGN HIM THE DAY HE IS HERE!!
It may be just a case of having a legitimate pass rushing threat opposite him (Trevor Price).
Oguleye certainly benefited from having Jason Taylor (as did Trace Armstrong a few years back when he posted 16+ sacks). Wistrom has played opposite the likes of Kevin Carter and Leonard Little. A few years back, Kenny Holmes put up respectable numbers for the Titans lining opposite of Kearse. He went to the Giants (opposite Strahan) and did much of nothing.
Just something to think about before judging a player on stats alone.
