For what it's worth, Igor likes the trade:

By all reports Anderson was said to be a real pro about everything here. It sucks that he's done because he was one of the first stretch bigs a few years back and he did quite well next to Dwight and then Anthony Davis. I think most of us hoped he'd be able to show some of that player he was with Ayton but he's just done. I would bet he'll be out of the league by the middle to end of next year. Someone else will take a look and see if he can do anything of value but if he could then he wouldn't be getting pushed from team to team and he wouldn't have been buried on the Rockets bench last year.

Anderson gave up some guaranteed money to come here so I respect that.

I'm okay with not going "all Pollyanna here" but have you nothing to say to the "sky is falling" fans on this trade? Just like the Melton trade, most of the positive comments on Tyler here have been to counter the argument that this is some kind of grossly incompetent move when it likely is just another who cares deal that matters mostly to the bean counters.

While I generally agree with you, I think some of the negative overreaction is due to the hope (or really, fantasy, to be more precise... let's face it) that the Suns would do something more substantial and meaningful to improve the team at the trade deadline... which this, in a word, isn't.

Other teams are making moves for all-star calibre guys at the deadline... and the Suns still aren't even capable of getting what could rudimentarily pass for someone able to play either of their two positions of immediate need.

I'm critical of Gambo often, but his take makes a lot of sense.

Basically this trade is picking up a productive player for a non productive one, while picking up an expiring after next season that can be a huge chip in a trade. Suns are playing chess, not checkers with this move.

The Suns aren't getting a big time free agent and instead are looking more at trade options.

Yeah, this is likely a nothing trade and it would be nice to see some real change. But I don't see a reasonable trade that would re-make our immediate fortunes so on the positive side, at least we haven't mortgaged our future to pick up a half dozen extra wins this season. Besides, every move we make should be to acquire players that will fit with our new power forward, Zion Williamson. (I'm trying to type it into existence)

Who would have thought "Did Ryan Anderson take a pay cut or not?" would become the question of our time!

If we get the #1, that will pretty much eat up all our cap space, although Holmes can be signed above the cap.

Which basically means we won't be getting an NBA caliber point guard or power forward.

So the cap hit is the guaranteed salary.

Told you so. Today's ludicrous trade cost the Suns $3-4 million in cap space.

I will wait and see how he plays with us. Same stuff was being said about Oubre. The sky is falling lol

Oubre was decent when we acquired him (which was by accident).

Johnson has been trash ever since he signed his current contract.

The real question is why did he take it in the first place? Was he just betting on himself that he’d get playing time elsewhere than Houston?

My basic litmus test for any trade or signing is whether or not someone is an actual NBA player. We've had so few of them recently that I am glad to just see a real NBA player join the team. TJ passes that test at least.

Not the TJ of this season.

Hard playing, tough, defensive, energy player. He is kinda like Oubre that way. This teams needs toughness and defense. If nothing else, its a little nudge in the right direction as far as team culture.

From the same guy whose #1 free agent target was Trevor Ariza.
I still get crazy ass PTSD when I see the phrase DNA on this board. Igor should know better.

As in the cap hit is $15.6 million.

Well. I don't think there is a better authority on this subject than Larry Coon.

Oh I have no problem with the trade. I haven't watched him much except during that short stretch 4 years ago when there was a lot of talk (on a Heat forum) that his play would soon move Dragic to the bench.

An unused bench leader for an overpaid player, nothing to lose anyway.
