Because Geno Smith had top talent and lost 5 straight after being undefeated. Geno Smith couldn't rally a team which played in the Big 12 and had both Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey. If he underachieves in college with top talent, what is he going to do in the Pros when he doesn't have the talent advantage. Geno Smith is very similar to Matt Barkley in that respect.

Hell Tyler Bray was in the SEC and he was within 10 pts of beating South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi St. and Missouri. Plus Bray won every game where they had more talent than their opponent.

Where was Eugene's top talent except for Tayvon Austin? Steadman Bailey is 4th round talent at best. Smith was that team.

Steadman Bailey is an excellent WR and will be in the top 100 players taken in this draft. Geno Smith called him the best route runner in college football and no one disagreed. Bailey ran a 4.52 at the combine. Tavon Austin is one of the fastest players and biggest playmakers to come out of college. Buie their RB averaged 4.8 yards per carry.

That is top college talent, and should have been more than enough talent to win the Big 12. However, once they hit the big stage, they went into a tailspin and the "best QB in the draft" couldn't bring them out of it? Please.

Geno Smith is the only QB I would consider at the 7th pick. His combine has only increased his value at this point.

Geno smith is overrated. I will go with Tyler Wilson all day long over all these other QB. Last season the Razorbacks did not have an offensive line that could block, a whole new receiving core, no defense, and no running game. Arkansas was in bad situation last season. Wilson showed toughness, leadership, and a never say die attitude. He lifted that team on shoulders and carried that team. That team could not do anything without him. He is the best QB in the draft IMO.

A rookie calling another rookie teammate the best at something... so it must be true!

Geno vs. Matt vs. Tyler - A pretty robust debate. It won't be resolved here. In fact, it probably won't be resolved until we see how things work out a year or 3 down the road (possibly with one a Cardinal - or not).

round three....Tyler Bray.....

that is our best bet at a serviceable QB from this draft

all the measureables, some intangibles, physically gifted with an extreme arm,...and all of his flaws are correctable by good coaching.

I like Tyler Bray if Wilson is off the board in the third, Moore gives me hope with these QBs

I like both Bray and Wilson, I just don't know if we can wait till the third round. I think we might have to pull the trigger on round two for our qb. It just depends on how high BA & Moore rate these guys.

What?? The WVU defense was one of the worst in football (literally ranking 119 out of 120) yet Geno still had monster games. Even his'bad games' were better than most of those QB's you listed.

Nassib does no changing of plays at the LOS. Look at his games. He has 1 read in that offense. He is not in charge of changing line schemes or audibiling out of run/pass plays or changing the WR's route.

You obviously havent watched him play or know what WVU was about or you'd know how bad that defense was.

I stated this on a previous thread where you questioned the "readiness" of Ryan Nassib, every report I have read states that running the pro system of Doug Ragonne (the Bills new head coach) made Nassib one of the most NFL ready QBs in this draft. His system was not a one read system.

As far as Bray is concerned, he may have footwork questions, but he also has a cannon for an arm.

Why do I elevate these players over Geno Smith? Because Geno Smith had top talent and lost 5 straight after being undefeated. Geno Smith couldn't rally a team which played in the Big 12 and had both Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey. If he underachieves in college with top talent, what is he going to do in the Pros when he doesn't have the talent advantage. Geno Smith is very similar to Matt Barkley in that respect.

In the end, I would rather take the better position players available in the first two rounds and pick from the QB scraps available in round 3 than take Geno Smith at #7.

I totally agree! In years past, the Cardinals would have reached for Geno or Matt Barkley at #7 overall. I wince when I see mocks like Pete Prisco's where we take one of them that early. From what I hear coming out of Michael Bidwill and Steve Keim I'm hopeful the lesson has been learned, and the Cardinals pass on reaching for a quarterback in the first round.

I'm not in the interview room, but if the Cardinals really like Matt Barkley or Geno Smith and they somehow fall to #38 overall, I MIGHT be OK with taking them, otherwise I'm with you on waiting until round three for quarterback and solidifying other positions with the first two picks. I really don't think Smith or Barkley would contribute much THIS season anyway.

He played in the Big 12, does any team play defense in that conference other than Kansas St.? Seriously, his defense is no excuse for Geno Smith letting his team take a nose dive after they beat Texas. A top QB and leader does not allow his team to lose the following 6 games. He is good athlete, but he is not a top QB IMO. UNderachieved for the talent that he had on that offense. BY the way, they scored 14 pts in the two consecutive games after they beat Texas and scored like 14 against Syracuse in their Bowl game. Choked.

As far as Nassib, I am going to side with the multiple analysts who described Doug Marrone's offense at Syracuse one of the most pro style offenses in college football and prepared Ryan Nassib for the professional game more than most QBs over you. No offense.

There, I just threw that out there in classic forum style without choosing to go through the trouble of showing proof or citing any pro scouting credentials. He is the best QB in the draft. I watched enough of this kid's tenure in college to even claim arrogantly that he is much better than Geno Smith :D

I saw enough of him in the SEC to know he is a lot better than he showed in the combine. I think he likely goes in round 2 in the first half. I sure would like to have him. He is off the radar right now but who really knows what the NFL GMs think. As I recall Brady was horrible in the combine. Wilson is a classic pocket QB who trained under Petrino in a NFL offense. I would be very happy to get him in round 2 if he is there. No questions about his leadership an character. He will be drafted and he will stick in the NFL. I think he has more potential than any QB currently on our team. That is not saying much I know.

You had me convinced until you made that remark. :D

Actually, I think he would be a nice pick for us on round 2.

Today's USA Today has us taking Fisher as does many other publications. They have Geno Smith going right behind us. Would we take Geno Smith if he is there????? He is the first QB taken in this publication. Would the Bills try to trade up ahead of us to make sure they get Smith?

Never forget our greatest need is a QB and the most important position on a team is the QB. If we think one of these QBs is close to being a starter in the NFL I take him even if he is not the BPA. The need for a QB can override a BPA in my world. Fisher cannot turn this team around. A good QB can turn this team around.

His 5 losses;

1. Texas Tech - lost at Waco 49-14 , that was a clunker for him.

2. Kansas State - lost at home 55- 14, another clunker

3. TCU - lost in 2 OT 39-38 , he was not the problem 32/54 260 3 tds 1 pick

4. Oklahoma State lost at Stillwater 55-34, he was 36/54 364 yds 2 TDs 0 picks, he was not the problem.

5. # 12 Oklahoma lost at home 50 -49 , 20/35 320 yds, 4 TDS 2 picks, he was not the problem.

The issue is that he looked like a 1st rounder his Jr. year, and then looked pretty average his Sr. year. That is why I expected him to shine at the All Star games, he was finally away from a terrible situation in Arkansas. However, he has looked more like the Sr. QB than the Jr. QB so far this offseason.

His senior year his HC Petrino was fired just before Spring training and some washed up coach was hired. Petrino actually called the plays on this team. The team was in turmoil most of the year as a result of this firing so do not judge him by 2012.

I did not say Geno Smith was the problem at West Virginia. I said he underachieved. Top QBs and leaders don't let their defense be an excuse and rally those players to play over their talent level. I'm not saying they should have been undefeated, but a top QB does not lose 5 straight.

I agree, I meant if we do not go QB in the second round because Wilson should be picked in the second and its Bray left in third

I just love this post dude. It has all the essentials: no proof via tape or links or anything remotely verifiable for others to judge, pure speculation, filled with intense and heartfelt bravado. Mix in some coolaid and cardinals love and a dose of sadness from epic failures and viola!

Great post dude. Well done.

And yes, I know it was satire and I have nothing more to add. Sometimes amusement is just amusing without needing to be dissected to death.
