In the NBA they're guaranteed by default. Until we hear otherwise I'd assume the whole thing is locked in.

The past few years there have been more with buyout options and partial guaranteed last years.

True, but until we hear that his contract has a buyout or team option then I'd assume that its fully guaranteed, because that is the default status of NBA contracts.

It's possible there is a team option or partial guarantee for the final year. Those types of details usually don't get released until the deal is final.

I also just want to make a counter-argument to those saying this will hurt Len's development / Playing time. Let's just say Len improves a lot this summer, comes into training camp really looking improved on both ends, starts the season hot, and it becomes obvious he needs 30 minutes a night ... That's still possible!

Do the Math: TC/Len would only have to play together for 7 minutes in a game for 1 to play 25 mpg and the other to play 30 mpg. So if Len deserves more PT, he'll get it. Chandler at 33 yrs. old, being a team guy, and locked into a long-term deal would be OK playing 25 mpg if Len deserves more minutes. Like I said in another post, in the 2010 season Chandler was OK starting out as the BACKUP to Brendan Haywood in a contract year for him. He's a low-drama guy. If Len improves a lot, he'll get his minutes. If he doesn't, he'll still get his 20 and Chandler will get his 28. Either way the center position looks great.

As a side note also, Chandler can shoot a little bit. He's not a total liability away from the basket like most fans think. He can hit a 10-15 foot jumper if he's open (check his FT%), so playing them together is possible since both can hit a little jumper and both are agile defensively, especially Chandler.

I wasn't aware that anyone was making that argument.

No one in particular. I know I've read it though, maybe not here but on other forums. It at least has crossed everybody's mind (Meaning you would have to do analysis, like I did, to determine it won't hurt Len's minutes if he deserves them) I'm sure that the Chandler signing won't be good for Len.

Basically, the signing promotes a healthy competition for PT is what I'm getting at. Both centers are capable of playing 30 mpg ... But only 1 probably will. The other will play 20-25. That will benefit both guys.

I think playing on a competitive team is good for the development of young players. If Len is getting 18-25 minutes a night on a team pushing for 50-55 wins then his development will probably be going well.

The only thing to listen to from Gambo was insider stuff as he has a strong relationship with Sarver (and it seems McD has made it so he no longer leaks to him until damn near after the fact). His actual basketball knowledge is dreadful

I don't recall getting much inside information from Gambadoro on Suns moves last season either. Like you say, McDonough seems to be stopping the leaks. I don't listen Gambadoro for basketball knowledge.

When he does get inside information, its usually good. His opinion about basketball stinks. For instance:

1. He was really excited about the Suns drafting Kendall Marshall. Thought he would be one of the better players in that draft.
2. His guy this year was Montrezl Harrell.
3. He says that DCousins stinks and he would not take him on the Suns roster even if the trade was really uneven in the Suns direction.

We agree on this.

A couple of seasons ago Gambo seemed to be getting insider information purportedly from Robert Sarver. Now, I'm not seeing any insider information from him about the Suns. Also he is not a source I value on basketball opinion as you mention.

Not sure where he was getting his insider info but you definitely have to filter out the opinion stuff because it's usually crap on his part. For example, I heard him say that Cousins has talent but is a cancer you don't want on your team for anything. What someone posted above I didn't hear but it wouldn't surprise me. That's why I miss Asher being paired with him. He would call Gambo out on his B.S. all the time and didn't pull punches. Wouldn't surprise me if that is what led to Asher's dismissal.

Difference of opinion is not a bad thing.
