now that the cardinals are doing well you see people wearing cardinals merchandise, talking about them, being fans, etc. this is so annoying because i've been a fan since '98 (i'm only 19) through all of these awful seasons and now i see people jumping on the bandwagon. this just frustrates me. i don't know why.

I don't know why either. I have been a fan since '88. Doesn't bother me.

You're right. I wish nobody would wear Cardinals gear or show up for the games. Except for the 25,000 that were there for the Cards when we sucked. :sarcasm:

i'm saying like people can't be fans and be loyal when we aren't doing good.

I say welcome aboard! As long as they stay fans and don't jump on to the next bandwagon.

Fan since 1998, the playoff year? About as bandwagon as you can get as a Cardinal fan. Spread the word, recruit the bandwagonners.

For every one person that jumps off of the bandwagon, one will stay on. The bandwagon gets bigger.

There's no other way to build fans.

It's not about who jumps on as others have said it's who stays, I got hooked in 1974-75 and stayed, a ton didn't that's just how it goes.

I'm thinking of the fans who are new to AZ. They've heard a lot of "Cardinals are lousy" around the water cooler and maybe thought, "Why bother?" Now with all this going on they're thinking "Hey, this team is doing it. I'm going to get a jersey."

I say, welcome aboard.

Brilliant. Makes tons of sense to become a fan of a perennial underachiever. Who doesn't love that? I know it's why I personally am giving a crap this year about this team. I'm actually considering becoming a fan, as long as this one season isn't the best they have for the next 10, anyway.

Welcome to all is my way of seeing it.

From what I saw at AZ, there are plenty of hardcore Cardinal fans to stick it out through thick and thin, and I only see that number growing.

But fairweather fans are still fun to have around, and you never know when one will become addicted to Cardinal football.

For all the newbies out there, welcome.

Doing well is a luxury for fans. Telling people how to spend their entertainment money is unfair. Would you continue paying to see a bad movie, just to be loyal.

BTW, loyalty is not always a 2 way street. We are talking about a franchise that left 3 cities for a "better deal". Enjoy them while they are good. Everyone likes a winner.

I understand what he's saying.

The river was narrow but deep, now it is wide but shallow.

I had a freind that was a fan of a team that had been bad for a very long time. They suddenly became very good. He lamented that it seemed that every prick in the state was now a fan.

We used to know that a Cardinal fan was a true fan and had your back, now we are often unsure whether someone we see wearing Cardinal red will jump ship at the first sign of trouble and abandon us in our time of need.

It is our job, the true and long time fans, to teach the newcomers who the players are, the history of the team, when to cheer and when to keep quiet, and just how to be Cards fans.

But I agree it can be annoying when someone you meet at the game doesn't know the players, can't tell you who who Larry Wilson is, or has never been to Sun Devil Stadium.

It's called growing pains.

For years I was a bigger Cardinal fan than many of the team's players (see: Rice, Simeon or Smith, Mark, or Chavous, Corey etc.).

Being a Cardinal fans has never been for the faint of heart and the fact that few people chose to embrace this team is not that hard a concept to understand. And as a long time fan, I wear my old Card's jerseys as a badge of honor, but I don't look down my nose at those who sport newer ones.

So, if anyone choses to voluntarily become a Cardinal fan, then I say more power to them. And if they leave when the going gets rough, then I say "Good Riddance", but until that time it's all good to me. :)

No truer words were ever spoken, but I understand the nostalgia for a time when you knew that Cards fans were not people who naturally took the path of least resistance.

It used to be hard being a Cards fan and you knew others that were Cards fans and that held a certain respect.

The good thing is now that it is acceptable to be a "Cards Fan", new fans look at you as the expert on all things Cardinal and people know that you hung with this team through thick and thin, mostly thin. It now carries some respect instead of derision.

I really don't understand this line of thinking. Sure I am a masochist. I represent the team because they represent my state and they are my passion through and through. If they were to move to LA I am not sure I would follow them with the same fervor.

But I can remember the years of girls laughing when I said I was a Cardinal fan or not wearing a jersey because of all the annoying questions that came with it.

The people on this site are what they are. Die Hards. There are not many who take football as seriously as us 25K or so and as my sig will attest - when this team does reach the top of the mountain - it will be much deserved for living through all the rest.

The 25K represent the diehards - and I will take every damn badwagoner i can get. Its like Will Smith in that movie "Hitch" No girl wakes up and thinks "I don't want to be swept off my feet today". So many fans who are casual need a reason to cheer - and winning and civic pride brings that reason. And the good news is that many of those will remain when things go bad or have spawns that do become part of the 25K. And if not who cares? Most teams have varying numbers of diehards but overwhelmingly are populated by the casual fan.

Jump aboard bandwagon fans. I'm just glad theres a bandwagon to speak of.

All of us in the know and through conversation know who the real fans are;)

It is still hard to be a Cardinal fan. Just not as hard. :)
