I liked him coming out and like some of you I would put him inside. I think he would be a good signing if we made him an inside linebacker. We can sign him cheap and let him learn for a year behind Dansby.

Can't Win country:

If we don't sign Jones, SK isn't doing enough.

If we do sign Jones, it's because he sucks.

(Note - I don't know anything about him or have any skin in the game. Just frustrated that I can't get a balanced evaluation of Jones - either folks love him or hate him. Conclusion: When in doubt, trust SK's judgment.

On a more positive note - the dude visited the Cards and then 2 other teams. (When that used to happen, the FA would sign with one of the other clubs. This time, the guy signed with us).

2 down??? Did you miss the part about him being very good in coverage??

No, he sucks, I know because knee jerk ASFN posts told me.
lol

He's a former first round pick and was on the bench behind Bud Dupree and James Harrison, both guys who are pretty damn good.

I like the pickup. Turn him loose and let's see what he can do.

Dupree <<<<<<<<Golden

Cardinals got one lucky. Golden was the best 3-4 rushbacker from that draft.

Says the fact he didnt play special teams in Pitt for 3 years. He played some ST last year only after he got bored of sitting on the bench and requested he play STs. In which he wasnt very good considering he runs a 4.90 40.

Jones and Golden as OLB's. Jones as WILB, Dansby as SILB. Put Buc where he belongs, as a Pro Bowl caliber SS.
Draft CB2 in the first round and the defense is solved.

Jones isn't the best pass rush specialist. So what. He can cover, shed blocks, tackle, and move sideline to sideline. Plus he's 6'2", 245-250. Not gonna get washed out really easily.

Put him at WILL.

With our effective OLB's, what we need now is a big penetrating NT. The inside backers and secondary would just clean up.

Word is, he's just signed!

Buc is not a pro bowl safety. Hes barely able to run with TEs and RBs as a LB, he would get destroyed as a S trying to cover deep.

If anything, I think we salvaged a potential bust by moving him to LB. As a S, he'd struggle badly.

Strong safety isnt a deep cover safety.

youre right. Strong safeties never pass cover ever. They are like diet LBs. In fact if a SS even attempted to cover a WR, theyd get flagged for illegal man-down-field similar to an Olineman

This will be interesting to see how he's used. I like the idea of moving Buc out of the WIL spot personally. They have a more options there now. They could be planning to use Jones at the SILB too.

This is a good, under-the-radar signing that I think is similar to the one-year deals Keim's been so good at in his first few years.

It's low risk, so not worth complaining about throwing too much money that way.

I like it, next year he'll probably be one of those guys who we're all wishing we had resigned. Solid football player in his prime.

Needed to add someone to the LBers with Okafor leaving so a former 17th overall pick is a decent place to look.
