I will say this, you can take every NFL team and there are some guys built like that and I'm not kidding...that is why a stud in college gets to the pros and gets a reality check.

Ugh.

Reminds me of when my rugby team played Penn State Delco.

Oh yeah, just some small satellite college school in the middle PA, can't be too much to worry about.

Yeah, until you realize this is a satellite school of Penn State, and then 7 ex-offensive linemen step out onto the pitch.

I felt like one of the Lions in the picture below, and I was playing at around 290lbs. It was ridiculous. And they were college D-1 castoffs, I can only imagine what trying to tackle Jared Veldheer would be like.

 ......... give me a bat .......... with a nail at the end.

Yeah, these aren't your fathers offensive linemen. Reminds me a little of when I ran into Levi Brown and Nate Solder in Vegas. Neither of them were a chunky 3 bills.

One reason why offensive linemen and defensive linemen in college struggle to make the adjustment to the pros. The NFL game is just so much more physically challenging and then you also have to adjust to the mental aspect as well. It's probably the only reason I prefer Chance Warmack to Jonathan Cooper at #7. Warmack just SEEMS to have less of a physical adjustment than Jonathan Cooper as they both play with good leverage. It is also my big area of concern with Larry Warford. I have never seen him consistently bend his knees and use leverage to make his blocks. Not saying he can't but he didn't have to in college because he is so big.

Heres what I know of Jared Veldheer. Drafted in the 3rd round to the Oakland Raiders. Played and started 10 games as a rookie and hasn't missed a game since. Played good enough to give coaches and fans hope on what he could become. They switched from a power blocking scheme to a zone blocking scheme last year and he really regressed. They have switched back to a power blocking scheme this year though so we'll see how much better he gets. Should be able to move some mountains based on his size. Is in his contract year this year. Will be an Unrestricted Free Agent after this season.

I have heard rumors that Chance may not have the greatest grasp of things between the ears and game plans have had to be simplified for him. Anyone else heard this?

Nope.

But, if true, he will fit into what Arians is selling. Smaller playbook, more simple.

Makes sense for today's NFL, with all the change over.

Unlike Whiz's master system that no one on the team could ever understand, including WR's that have been in the system for 4+ years.

And don't give me that Warner crap, that all happened with Haley, and A LOT of audibles.

I have not heard anything about learning issues regarding Warmack. If true, it could be a concern, but reps normally help these players get things. Also, OG is a position that is helped by both the C and OT. OGs generally need to listen and communicate as their assignments are pretty much set on any given play.

lol, it's not too far-fetched filling out between 16 and 26 or however old that damn monster is. When I was lifting and eating hard (yeah both, fast metabolism is a BITCH for weight gain. Every night I wanted when I went to bed), I put on probably 60lbs. in that same age range, and it was all muscle (not that I was big either, I was just REALLY skinny in HS) I've since lost about 25 of it though thanks to a shoulder and back injury...

not saying whether he did or didn't juice (probably did, but I think every NFL player did at some point), but you could stack muscle going from kid to adult with trainers, dieticians, etc. I would imagine with their resources, I could have added much more too

A lot of good all that lifting did for him...

Jared Veldheer Injury

"The team's official Twitter page broke the news of the unfortunate development, which was officially revealed on Wednesday and could keep the valuable lineman out for all of 2013."

I believe he is out for the season , Torn Tricept .

They were talking about it on local radio yesterday because gasp there have been rumors that he's not "natural" and this is the exact sort of injury guys like that get because they literally get too big for their body frame and start blowing out injuries like that.

it's why the hamate bone break became so common in baseball during the steroid era when before nobody had ever heard of a hamate bone(in the wrist). Because guys like Canseco and mcGwire were juiced up and that bone in the wrist couldn't take all the torque they were putting on it due to their enhanced strength.

Of course Veldheer denies he's ever done anything and the injury was just a fluke.

It wouldn't surprise me if the injury was due to overwork/pre-damaged tissue inherent in the muscle building process. He gained a large amount of muscle mass in a relatively short period of time, which is not unheard of. He could, in fact, be "all natural".

It's a far cry from someone like David Boston ailing from chronic issues with his connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, etc.) from putting 290 pounds on a frame best suited for 230 while still running a sub-4.4 40.

Anything is possible but his trainer is bending over backwards to deny steroid rumors and defend the injury. the trainer says Veldheer has gained only 15 pounds since he started working with him, said he's known him since 4th grade, and they have been seriously training for 3 years so 15 pounds in 3 year.

He's a huge guy and obviously in this day and age you get that big you're going to have such rumors, unfortunately he's got too many before and after pics to not raise my red flag and apparently I'm not alone the local media has been speculating about it since that pic went viral.

I have to admit I'm always skeptical of pro athletes now who have their own trainer, especially someone they've known since HS. Maybe it's the whole Barry Bonds and Anderson connection thing? I just always figure an NFL player has access to trainers and weights etc so if he's got his own trainer it makes me suspicious, probably just me I'm sure lots of trainers are entirely clean.
