Heard another radio report.

His short routes (1-19 Yards) were excellent.
His mid routes (20+yards) were average.
His long ball routes (30+yards) Were Good.

The guy he trained with and who ran the workout Jerry Rhome seemed to have been calling plays on the fly. It didnt seem or looked scripted.

Not sure how he looked under center though since he mostly did shotgun in College. He didnt mention anything about that.

Either the Raiders are pulling the greatest smokescreen of all time or they do not like or want to pick any of the QB's in the draft.

I dont think they were at the Cutler pro day either, plus all of the QB's they are trying to bring in in the offseason so far the Raiders will not pick a QB in the 1st round of the draft.

If he is working out with Jerry Rhome, then that is great.

Rhome has always been a very good offensive mind, IMO.

Yeah, that #3 overall pick would have been nice with this draft class. How the hell do we go 5-11 and still end up picking #10? This team is freaking cursed.

I hope he is at #10 only for the potential that some other team will trade with us to select him. Other than that, I'll be wearing my 'Vince Young Suicide Watch' t-shirt as he free falls to #13.

I was unprepared when Aaron Rodgers fell (still loved it, though). I'll be damned before I miss another thing like that.

another report had him wearing blue tights and a red cape. The reporter also said he could make out a large Q on the shirt. Do you think it could be the Son Of Q.

Brisk North wind overcast nasty wind chill around lunchtime. It is decent outside right now but I had to go by the house at lunch to grab a jacket.

More info. Completed 55 of 57 unscripted passes. 2 were dropped.

All of his passes were done from under center and none from shotgun.

Depends on which scouts you talk to but the over opinion was he didnt wow you like Cutlers workout but he did impress them none the less by showing some really good arm strength and accuracy while throwing and stepping back from under center.

Will Hold a private workout with the titans and texans tommorow. Maybe another team but they havent announced who that team is yet.

Word is that the Texans are only working him out to appease their fans becusae they are dead set on selecting Bush.

The Bucs had a 1 min conversation with Michael Clayton at the combine a few years back (and that was it), and Gruden later came out and said that they had never even considered anybody else.

I have no doubt that its a smokescreen.

But the bucs heavily scouted him at his pro day and other occasions they had a chance to.

Plus there are a few differences in the 2 situations.

In the case of the Raiders they havent shown one bit of interest for any rookie QB, combined with the fact they are trying everything in their power to get another QB, they tried for Culpepper, they are trying for Brooks as we speak and a few other QBs they have looked at in FA but went elsewhere. Also Al Davis and Art Shell likes their QB to be a strong armed pocket passer, that is not Vince Young.

Good thing I am not the GM now I have been flip flopping all over the place. I was on the White wagon until we got Edge. Now I am on the Davis wagon thinking he will have the most impact but would not mind if it were Cutler, Young, Huff or Hawk.

NFL | More on Young at Pro Day
Wed, 22 Mar 2006 16:25:01 -0800

Charean Williams, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Texas QB Vince Young threw 55 passes with five incomplete and one drop during his Pro Day workout Wednesday, March 22. Young worked out with four wide receivers - Texas WRs David Thomas, Ahmard Hall, Brian Carter and former high school teammate and Idaho WR Daniel Smith. Young also caught one pass on a trick play. "I feel like I did a good job," said Young. "I stayed relaxed, poised and had fun. You hear so much that 'Vince is not working out. Vince is not doing this and that.' I wanted to go out and show them that I am working out."

LMFAO

'Vince is not working out. Vince is not doing this and that.' I wanted to go out and show them that I am working out."

I love people that talk in the third person about themselves ! I would still draft him at #10 if he were there.

If he is picked, the odds that another guy we like - i.e. Hawk, Huff or (arguably) Cutler - would fall to us at #10 become more likely.

They showed a sample of Young's position drills on NFL Network. His throws looked fine. I was a bit disappointed by the 4.56ish time - I'd been hoping he'd run 4.45 or faster. (The scouts felt that the forty time was irrelevent - that everyone has seen him in games "running just as fast as he had to.")

Still, I felt the forty time moved him slightly out of the superhuman category. It did seem to me, however, that the on-air comments made by Mayock and scouts belied grudging admiration - as if they had hoped to say "we told you so", but couldn't, because he did pretty well.

All I know is that if he fell to us at #10, I'd still be happy to accompany Rod Graves to meet him at the airport.

Word of caution - Mayock's "unofficial" forty times often turn out to be different from when Gil Brandt posts the official times later, so we still might see Vince breaking 4.50.

I'll post the story, and the haters will point and say "I told you so" and the supporters will scoff and say it is a hack job, so take it for what it is worth. It is neither a promotion or knock on the guy, just saying some teams weren't satisfied with the workouts.

Scout: Young runs 40-yard dash in 4.58

Quarterback Vince Young was timed in 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash Wednesday on what is considered a fast track at the University of Texas in Austin, one NFL scout told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The scout said Young's time was slower than anticipated.

QB 40-yard dash times
Reggie McNeal, Texas A&M, 4.35
Marcus Vick, Va. Tech, 4.42
Brad Smith, Missouri, 4.46
D.J. Shockley, Georgia, 4.56
Barrick Nealy, Texas St., 4.57
Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo, 4.59
Ingle Martin, Furman, 4.68
Tarvaris Jackson, Alabama St., 4.75
Brett Basanez, Northwestern, 4.75
Jay Cutler, Vanderbilt, 4.77
-- Vince Young's time of 4.58 would put him in sixth place among QBs

According to the same scout, Young's overall workout was "fairly impressive," but the scout said that Young was not asked to make certain drops and throws that he would have to perform in a private team workout.

While Young completed all but five of more than 50 passes, a scout told Mortensen, "That wasn't a remarkable achievement because he wasn't asked to make many tough throws and he waited a lot on his receivers to get out of their breaks. Teams that are curious about the guy are going to want to see more when they work him out."

One of those teams is the Tennessee Titans, who will give Young a private workout on Thursday in Austin, site of Wednesday's pro workout day for Young his his Longhorn teammates.

Other teams that have scheduled private workouts include the Houston Texans and New York Jets.

Asked to compare Young's workout to one given last Friday by Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler in cold weather and swirling winds, one scout said told Mortensen, "There was no comparison. Cutler made all the throws in tough conditions while Young limited his range of throws and he was indoors."

USC quarterback Matt Leinart, the consensus top passer available for the April 29 NFL draft, will work out on April 2 on the Southern Cal campus.

Young, the former Texas quarterback, worked out for 30 minutes in front of more than 100 NFL scouts, coaches and executives who are paying close attention to the quirky throwing motion that still raises questions despite delivering a national championship.

"Very impressed," said new Texans coach Gary Kubiak, whose team owns the No. 1 pick. "The kid put on a show."

Texas officials said Washington was the only team not to have someone watching the workout.

One owner, the Texans' Bob McNair, introduced himself to Young before the throwing session. Young is from Houston and has said he'd like to play for his hometown fans.

"I think he had a good workout," McNair said.

The Texans, who were 2-14 last season, are expected to lean toward drafting USC tailback and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush after extending quarterback David Carr's contract for three years.

McNair said he hopes to attend Bush's workout early next month. But he also indicated the Texans haven't decided who to draft or whether to keep or trade the pick.

As a quarterback who can run or throw, Young is the most intriguing player in the draft, scheduled for April 29-30 in New York. He may also be the most scrutinized as teams try to decide whether his Rose Bowl performance of 467 total yards and three rushing touchdowns will translate into the NFL.

"It's a very valuable pick," McNair said. "We all want to make a good decision."

According to NFL.com, Young measured 6-foot-4 5/8 and 228 pounds. He ran one 40-yard dash, timing 4.57 seconds, although Young said he was told he timed between 4.4 and 4.5.

Although Young wasn't scheduled to run Wednesday, he said he wanted to after watching some of his teammates do it.

"They wanted to see me run, so I ran," he said.

The change of heart impressed Kubiak.

"He's very competitive and got in an environment where everybody wanted to see him operate," Kubiak said. "He did a great job."

Young spent most of the last two seasons operating out of the shotgun. Wednesday's drills had him taking simulated snaps under center and working with five- and seven-step drops in the pocket.

"I showed them everything they wanted to see," Young said, adding he'll do individual workouts for teams that ask.
