Here is the one year rebuild program.

1. Buyout Carter.
2. Trade Steve Nash for an expiring and a pick in next year's draft (not protected).
3. Pick up a quality young player in this draft.
4. Stink it up for one year but develop young players.
5. Summer of 2012 I believe they would close to having enough space to go after 2 max free agents.
6. Pull a Miami and sign two FA's that want to play together
7. Oh, and have two lottery picks in a deep draft that summer.

In one summer you rebuild with two lottery picks and two max free agents.

8. Monkeys fly out of Sarver's butt.

This entire plan hinges on Dwight Howard using his early termination option and Chris Paul turning down his player option AND both deciding they want to play together and the destination they're interested in is Phoenix.

That seems more than a bit unlikely, and after Howard and CP3 the 2012 FA class isn't too appealing.

No idea if this is realistic or not, but how about Rudy Gay? His injury problems lower his trade value, and the Grizz have shown that they can do just fine without him.

since when is the #8 seed considered "just fine"? I mean, if they're the 8 seed without a very good to possiby great player, wouldn't you think they might want to keep that guy and get even better?

this would be like people talking about us trading Amare in the off-season after the 2006 year for an expiring contract simply because we were "fine" without him.

Settle down. Gay was just a name I thought i'd toss out there. And 8th seed is pretty good by Griz standards...better than they ever did when Gay was healthy :D

The Grizzilies went 18-12 without Gay, possibly tanked the last few games too to play the Spurs.

With Gay they went 28-24.

It is not like Gay missed the whole year and the Grizzlies shocked everyone. They had him for the majority of the season and when he got injured they played better than with him.

I think Gay might be available, who knows Randolph was expensive and Marc Gasol will easily ask for something starting at 8M$ or so. They will probably want to keep Battier as well.

I hope the OP understands that probably the MAIN reason our penny pitching owner Robert Sarver did the ORL trade was so that he can have an orgasm while watching Carter's contract expire or bought out for $3 mil or whatever.

No way we trade VC away.

Any deal that in which the Suns give another team $14 million or so in expirings will look heavily lopsided in the favor of the Suns.

Remember Googs and two first rounders for nada (except the dumping of Googs salary)?

Beasley to Minny, Gasol to the Lakers, etc. These were all salary dumps. Find a team that has two starting caliber players at the same position, needs cap space, is in a win now mode. To me, that is Atlanta. Horford and Smith play the same position. They need a center. They have an overpaid Joe Johnson.

If Atlanta could somehow make a run at Tyson Chandler, they would do it in minute.
It all depends. I dont think Atlanta will trade anyone if they keep playing the way they are right now.

And highly unlikely Dallas lets Chandler go. He is their defensive center piece and a big reason as to why they are top 10 in every defensive category.

Maybe they trade Haywood but thats it.

I could Atlanta go after Kaman if they want a center that badly. LA doesnt need him anymore since they have DeAndre Jordan.

Chandler is an unrestricted FA this summer.

There is a slim possibility that Carter is still in a Suns uni next year. I read somewhere that the Suns possibly could buy his contract out for the $4 mil then resign him to a small contract of around $6-7 a year. Did he do well in spots this year? Yes he did, but was too erratic in doing so. Would I do it? Hell No!!! IF we can deal him to a team for pieces like Iggy, Brand, Josh Smith, West, Kaman, etc. I'd do it in a heartbeat. But with our beloved penny pincher who thinks that you make money while you own a sports team, rather than when you sell the team, I foresee Carter being bought out for the $4 mil and finding something elsewhere.

The Suns "could" do that in the sense that it would be legal, but I can't believe they'd be so stupid as to consider it. Carter was an outright disaster, and he's only going to get worse if he does keep playing.

Free Carter! I don't expect $arver and his FO boys do anything close to spectacular but it's nice to know there are opportunities and everything's not necessarily bleak and hopeless. I'd be VERY pleasantly surprised.

while the above is true, that 28-24 record was the result of a really slow start. Once that team started to gel with everyone in the lineup, they won 17 of 25 games before Gay got hurt. They've already shown the ability to spend money, having spent 70 million this year and next year, they only 53 million on the books, leaving them at least enough room to resign not only Gasol but probably Battier as well if they wanted while losing no one. So tell me, why would that team... who's already shown they can handle a 70 million dollar pay roll... get rid of a 25 year old stud who could make the team even better than they already are.. and for NOTHING?

Sarver does not want to overspend, but he is not an idiot either. He knows that a loser in this town won't make any money. I have no doubt he will seek to put a competitive team on the floor. I am just not sure he will go the extra mile to put a championship contending team on the floor.

That said, I cannot imagine any circumstance I want Carter on our team next year. We need youth. There is no point in resigning the aging, disinterested Carter, even for the minimum.

There is no way Carter would re-sign here if we waive him. Why would he come back to a mediocre team like us that waived him instead of going to a contender?

Well... and which contender team would like to sign him?

All contenders will look to sign him for the veterans minimum..

And even if not, no way he'd come back to a team that waived him. Especially since he has been here for just a few months and I doubt he feels appreciated.

i'm not saying that he would like to stay, but i'm also not sure if there is a team which would like to sign him. Also i don't know if VC would take veterans minimum when offered...

I doubt it. It's been years since he helped anyone win, and I think the league has figured that out by now.

There is no amount of money that can make the Suns contenders within five years. The opportunity for the Suns to contend under Sarver has come and gone.

You obviously haven't analyzed his adjusted plus-minus.

If he is bone on bone thats penny all over again

Was talking about what he did tonight in the final quarter of must win playoff game. To say that he is done, and its just a matter of when is really taking a lot away from the guy.

As someone with bone on bone in my left knee and play a sport professionally, completely different stress put on the joint.....I do not think though that he will return to his earlier form if he does have bone on bone. I wouldn't go after him, even with our great training staff (who if there was going to be a team to extend his career past whatever it will be now it would be then). If he truly has bone on bone, he has a big uphill battle to get back to where he was at...but the guy proved tonight he can still play a bit.

I still think we would be able to get Josh Smith from the Hawks. He makes 12 Million next year and Horford is thier future PF. We might have included our pick as well as have other players involved, if we included Lopez they Horford could move to PF full time. I wouldn't mind getting Hinrich or Teague, I would gladdly throw in our pick and any players (- Gortat/Dudley/Nash/Hill)

Yeah lets throw away more picks so we can have another SF masquerading as PF all that while still not being more than a fringe playoff team.

Can't wait to see a mediocre Suns team that features exactly zero players that the team drafted.

And don't give me that crap about the Suns not knowing how to draft. If we go by that this front office does nothing well.
