From what the The Insider has to say today, that there are a lot of suitors for Blount, Okur, and even Foyle.

It looks like the only options for Vlade is the Suns and the Kings. Vlade may only sign a one year contract with a possible option of 2 years. Vujanic is on Vlade team in Europe and Vlade could be on hand when he arrives in Phoenix next year.

I would rather have Valde here for a year or two vs. signing any of the other FA centers for extended number of years and extended number of millions of dollars.

Vujanic isn't on Vlade's team in europe.

He was a couple of years ago.

I want Vlade if he wants us but certainly not for 6M$ a season or so even if it is a short contract.

I'm not sure of the Kings salary cap situation but I'm sure Suns mangement is and I would imagine that they would offer just enough over the SAC offer to make it compelling to make the move.

Even if Vujanic is not on his team, I believe that they are from the same country as well as Charbarkapa.

2 years, $12m for Vlade is a huge bargain.

Vlade is like a RFA in a way, because if Sacramento is willing to match offers, no other team has a shot at him. If the Kings are willing to let him go, I'm sure the Suns would put in an offer for him.

Vlade is about to break down. He is good for maybe 20 minutes off the bench and even that not every night.
His playoff perfomance was very dissapointing.

2yrs/12M$ is too much for Vlade. That would eat up almost all our capspace next year with JJ's extension.

If we get Kobe and Vlade says he would like to play the rest of his career with the Suns and Zarko and Milos. Sure bring him over for cheap.

lets see vlade is 80 years old, or at least moves like it he cant run with the team and would only be a good bench player but heck you feel 6 million a season is a good deal?

Vlade owns the team that Vujanic plays for.

Vlade owns Partizan Belgrad. Vujanic plays in Italy.

I don't think Vlade even owns that team. He is the president of that club.

Portland was begging Arvydas Sabonis to come back for another season, and they were offering $7m for one year. Sabonis turned them down flat, though.

Centers who really know how to play are valuable for a long time--not least as an example for youngsters who are trying to learn the position themselves.

How could Portland offer 7M$? They certainly didn't have his rights anymore and are way way over the cap.

On top of it Vlade is a chain smoker. He was breaking down last season already. He would be a nice player to play a role like Scott Williams and play just in every other game and only when other teams use a big center.

He is not worth 6M$ a season.

Portland still has Sabonis' Bird Rights. Those rights don't vanish into thin air when a player retires.

Didn't JC claim that Vlade could play until he was 50? And, didn't Vlade hold up pretty well this season, despite playing more minutes than expected? That's why people are talking about Vlade as a FA this summer, instead of speaking of him in the past tense.

Sabonis said that Portland would be the only team he would play for, that's why they made the offer to him to come and help them into the playoffs. I don't know where this offer stands for this year. If he does come back, that is where my emphasis is to try a pry Theo away from them this year.

But Sabonis signed a new contract in europe. I don't think you keep the bird rights if someone signs a new contract.

Vlade really stunk it up in the playoffs. Especially against the soft Mavs he managed only 5ppg/4rpg 38%FG.

I don't know how you could justify giving a 36yr old chain smoker on the verge of breaking down a 6M$ a year contract that will kill your capspace for next season.

Early in the season I thought Vlade might come over because it seemed logical that the Kings would try to get younger and not be willng to pay big bucks to keep him. However, everything I've heard out of Sacramento is that they want to keep the team together for at least one more try.

A year ago the Kings tried to economize and let Jimmy Jackson go. It was a huge blunder. I think they are going to be willing to pay to keep Vlade around for another year.

BTW, I'm not sure Vlade solves the Suns problems. The Suns need a defensive stopper and that is not really what Vlade brings and not for long.

Not that it matters much. But I heard he quit smoking...

I don't think anybody said that they thought Vlade would solve our problems. In fact, the main reason for bringing him in won't have anything to do with his play on the court, but his mentorship of our big guys.

If the Suns were already a good team, I think it would make a lot of sense to try to add Divac. I see no point in adding him to a young rebuiding team that is likely multiple years away from the playoffs.

As far as mentoring goes, just hire another assistant coach instead. They're much cheaper and their salaries don't count against the cap.

If we're just going to sit on a bunch of cap space till next year it might make sense to get Vlade for just one year... with an optional year as an assistant coach!
