Update: Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh opting out. bit.ly/1hKUSdo

So none of them are likely going anywhere. Pay cuts all around to make room for more talent.

Yeah sounds like they got a plan. Shocked Wade opted out he's gonna take a huge pay cut but he's chasing rings now.

If Miami convinces Melo to sign there then Bosh could get thrown out. We should try to bring him in for a visit imo.

Wow. They got Haslem to opt out also, huh? Me thinks we'll be looking at a big 4 next year. Or if the Heat are smart, they'll take whatever savings they get from the pay cuts to get two solid players (like a Lowry/Gasol combo) to properly reload.

I'm not a cap expert, so how does this allow them to add more talent aside from Wade and Bosh taking pay cuts. Do Wade, Bosh, and James still have a cap hold that will prevent them to add additional salary. If their is no cap hold then they could just sign Melo and whoever then resign 'the big 3" above and beyond the cap with the Bird rights.

There's probably cap holds but I assume they don't make a move signing contracts until the FA of their choosing gets a deal in place and then they probably just make one mass signing. Even though they have cap holds, it doesn't prevent them from negotiating and meeting with people.

If they're smart, they try and get a Lowry/solid other guy, but if they really want to go dumb and sign Melo, they could do that too depending on how big their pay cuts are.

Agreed.

I really hate what the league has become. As much as I'd love the Suns to win a championship, I don't think I'd like it if they did it this way. I know most likely won't agree with me on that. I hate, but respect San Antonio. I have zero respect for Miami. The way younger fans follow players and switch their "favorite" team to whoever is winning disgusts me and the way players are colluding does the same for me. I guess this is what the NBA is now and I'll either have to learn to stomach it or look elsewhere for my sports entertainment. Damn...

Do they even have to take pay cuts? Can't they sign a mello and a Lowry and then resign the others? If the owner is willing to pay the tax can't they go over the cap since they have (at least I think they have) the bird rights to the ones opting out?

I agree wholeheartedly KloD (with regards to young fans switching "favourite teams" and the players running the league "let's get a team together in x"). The Suns are fun to watch these days so I'll keep watching Suns games. At least the Heat got beat. And there's always football season.

Hmmm...I don't know if that's Kosher under the CBA. But if so, yikes! That team could create an all-star starting lineup if they wanted to.

no, their caphold will be 150% of their previous salary so they have to re-sign everyone first before signing a free agent.

That makes me feel better since they won't be able to exceed the cap or use the MLE. But, realistically how much cap space could they free up? If they all sign for 15M that leaves less than 10M to round out the roster because Andersen and Cole are under contract.

Word is they're looking to move Cole. And all of them signing at 15 puts them at 45 and Cole and Anderson only make a combined 3.5 million. So, you'd be looking at 48.5 million in salary, putting them 15 million under a 63.5 million cap. And they'd have a 2.5 exception to use as well.

At first glance it looks like the wheels are falling off at Miami. However, upon closer look, this looks like a very coordinated plan. It can't be coincidence that Wade, Bosh and Haslem all opted out days after LJ.

Frack...this looks like they are reloading...taking pay cuts and freeing up salary to sign some guys. In fact, it now appears that LJ doing so was the "look...I am willing to do it" move to send a message to the other players.

I think other team's dreams of getting LJ just crashed and burned.

Wade will take a pay cut, but likely get more guaranteed money over the entirety of his next co tract

IMO, the creation of super teams by player tampering could ultimately be the downfall of the NBA unless the Commissioner decides to step up to the plate. What needs to happen is to prove the ownership is involved on some level.

I'm not sure what you're saying here, could you elaborate.

The Heat now have an NBA record $55M in cap space.

This should not be allowed. Kind of like how players were able to (after) getting traded, refuse to play, get cut, and come back to his original team.

You know what, the hell with it, let's throw a maximum offer at Bosh and make him think about it.

Damn. I was thinking the cap was still at 58K. I agree with most that the Heat would be wise to add Lowry and Gasol vs Melo. They need help at the 1 and 5. Adding Melo would be a huge story, but would be a horrible fit. If the Heat pull this off, then they will be the most hated team of all time.

Somebody selects the players on the team, prepares the contracts and pays the players. It just doesn't happen in absentia without ownership involvement. Is Lebron running the team.... if not who? The lines are being blurred. Someone appears to be tampering, if not the players, then the ownership. Things do not just happen randomly with multiple players.

I get why people are upset at what appears to be happening, but I see it a little differently. This option has been on the table for every team, every year, for a long time. This is one of the few times pro athletes have been willing to take less money to help the team out. People are acting like they're scum for doing this, but they're putting team ahead of individual. My question is, will the NBAPA allow this? It can't be good for them that players are willingly taking less money.

I think we should attack Bosh with a good offer. He would be perfect in our system. And he just barely turned 30.

I read somewhere earlier today that teams have been trying to set up meetings with James for the beginning of free agency and his agent isn't listening. He's not leaving, never was.

This crap will end up leading to the next CBA having a slotted pay structure IMO. Sure you guys can play together, but will your ego's accept one or two of you making $10 million a year more than the 3rd guy or something like that. Who knows, I just hate this crap.
