Here are the nominees for The State Journal-Register's athlete of the week.

Grace Burris, Staunton, softball​


The junior hurler struck out seven and walked one in a complete-game 1-0 shutout victory over Auburn/Lutheran on Thursday. On Monday, she also pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and two walks in Staunton’s 6-3 win at Nokomis.

Callie Gill, Auburn, girls soccer​


The Trojans’ senior scored three goals in the first half and assisted on another in the second to lead Auburn past Southeast 4-1 on Thursday.

Taryn Griffith, Chatham Glenwood, softball​


The senior catcher blasted two home runs, including a grand slam, in a 14-1 win over Belleville West on Saturday.

Carson Hailstone, Gillespie, baseball​


The junior hit a three-run double in a 13-11 comeback win over Carrollton on Friday. On Wednesday, he blasted a three-run home run and totaled two hits and five RBIs in a 17-10 win over Jerseyville.

Max Leitschuh, Litchfield, baseball​


The Purple Panthers' junior left-handed pitcher and catcher opened his first week with a .667 batting average (12-for-18) with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 13 RBIs. On the mound, he went 1-0 and with a save over 12 innings pitched, including a complete-game shutout in a 9-0 win over Springfield High on Saturday. He allowed seven total hits, four walks and struck out 14 without surrendering a run over the opening week.

Kaydi Miller, Havana, softball​


The junior hit the walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 6-5 win over Canton on Friday.

Lily Woodworth, Buffalo Tri-City/Sangamon Valley, softball​


The junior struck out 10 to open the season with a 12-1 win over Decatur St. Teresa on Friday after recovering from a car accident over the offseason.
