I had to stop reading here.

"Signing Warner makes the 49ers a Super Bowl contenders for the next two years"

This is clearly an emotional statement void of most logic.

Agreed. Mitch, I always enjoyed reading your breakdowns and insight and generally really respected your opinion more than most others, buy there have been too many of these type of off the wall statements lately.

No doubt! I definitely want whatever it is that he is smoking.

Whatever I think of our FO I do know a couple of things.

We have the caproom to retain Warner at any price and Whis more likely than not has input.

No one on here knows what that input is past the fact he expressed a desire to have Kurt back but he did not say at any price.

The odds are high that a coach which got this team to the SB would be consulted heavily on this and the odds are even higher that he himself will be satisfied with the offer we give Warner.

If later on we ever find out that was not the case, then the FO can be looked at sideways, otherwise we're fine.

If, a great big if, Kurt goes to SF, will Singletary force Warner to be the QB that he wants him to be? Or would he give Warner free reigns. Seems to me this move is in the completely opposite direction of what the Niners have been doing since Singletary took over.

Kurt Warner is a system QB. He would struggle tremendously if he doesn't have a good supporting cast, something the 49ers don't have.

In closing, edited.

Uncalled for 23, just because you don't agree with someone does not make them an edited.

Jeez, this is turning into a really bad episode of The Bachelorette, or some god-awful Country Western song.

Someone needs to give the guy the damn rose, so he can stop looking for love in all the wrong places.

God told Kurt to go onto Sodom and Gomorah (Sp?) and to bring down the false gods. And if you want to play football while you're there, be my guest.

Mitch, you are the most prolific writer that I have ever seen on a message board. How can you continue to write these long threads?? I'm lucky to respond with a short sentence. You have quite a talent with words and should consider writing a sports/football book.

Regarding this thread, I believe that Kurt will resign with the Cards this week. He is not happy the way this is going and is concerned with how his image is being portrayed in the community.

It sounds like the front office is giving Kurt a fair deal but not willing to overpay which I can handle

Yeap! I think the Cardinals have put a fair deal on the table and know their personal. They know what they have in Matt. They know what Kurt's worth is to them. If someone thinks Kurt can do for them what he did for us them he might be worth more to them.

His value is set for the Cardinals.

Couldn't agree more. If I did one of your write-ups it would take up my internet time for the week.

Mitch, I enjoy your write ups, even the few that are way out there. They make me think! Thank you for the time you devote to your posts.

Who thinks Warner is doing this so he can take the lesser offer from the Cards & say, "See? Look how awesome I am! I had this offer to take all this money, but I stayed with you guys for much less because I'm dedicated to this team..."

Blah. Go to SF, Kurt.

It's amazing how things have changed. 2or 3 weeks ago Warner was this bigger than life soon to be legend. Now he is arguing over how much he is worth. He wants to be paid among the best quarterbacks in the league. The figures that I have seen say he would, probably top 5. How much is enough? I am very disappointed in the change in Warner. He really is beginning to look like many others in the NFL. I understand him trying to get paid. But this "feelings being hurt". Come on grow up! Let's sign some quality players this week. Let's stack the defense and develop a running game. We have a viable quarterback. If he doesn't work out we will find another one. Build up the rest of the team and let the quarterback chips fall where they may.

His image?

Look, I loved the 2008 Warner. The guy that was all about God, team, effort, and heart.

The image I have of the 2009 Warner? He's the guy that's about money, only money, and show me the money.

I don't like that image, either. It's a shame that it seems to be an accurate one.

Well, I'll wave the BS flag at this part of your argument

Warner is going to have to uproot his family once again...which will mean a new house, new doctors, new schools, new dentists...

At 38 and with two years left...this decision would seem insane.

We move EVERY 2-3 years, get no money for it, and usually have very little say in where we move to. That is called a "career." Give me $29 mil and I'll move to Antartica. Sorry, I don't buy that excuse.

My conversation would be, "well honey I know Antartic sucks and all, but it's only 2 years and with $29 million we could live ANYWHERE WE WANT AND DO ANTYHTING WE WANT FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES."

Let the flogging begin... but you will not change my opinion on this no matter what you say.

You act likes it's a 29 million dollar move but in reality its only a 5 to 6 million dollar move as Kurt would get paid to play here (plus Kurt already has millions). Not to mention having the offensive tools here designed around his abilities. Now it's not such an easy decision.

I'm not sure his teenage kids would agree.

Also, Kurt will more than likely not even see the second year of his SF contract. If the choice was the SF offer or nothing, then you would have a point.

It's been a long cold snowy winter's night in New England.

I am home today because school has been cancelled for the day.

Good thing because last night I couldn't sleep...I think it was well past 2 AM when I finally was able to drift off...but it was a restless sleep...

I personally feel about as disillusioned about the Cardinals and Warner as I could possibly be.

Quite frankly, I feel betrayed by both the Cardinals and by Kurt Warner...neither of them right now are who I thought they were (you know I'm losing it when I am quoting the infamous Dennis "Pie Chart" Green).

On the Cardinals' part, this is one of the only times I feel they should have paid more than they wanted in order to keep a player. My feeling is that the Cardinals' offense with Warner under center is about as good as an offense gets...this offense scored 30 points per games against the Falcons, Panthers, Eagles and Steelers in pressure packed playoff games that only Warner and Edgerrin James had ever known of or played in.

In my way of thinking, you do all you can to keep scoring 30 points a game. If it means anteing up more money than you want to, you have to.

I also believe in preserving momentum...all of which the Cardinals had following their remarkable, inspirational and unprecedented Super Bowl run...

But now what we are seeing looks more like a mutiny of epic proportions...the OC is gone...the QB coach is gone (fired)...the RB coach is gone...there is no new OC as responsibilities are now being shared among two coaches...the DC was fired...yet replaced by the LB coach who failed miserbaly his first time around as DC (whether it was entirely his fault or not)...one half of the "as Dockett and Smith go, the Cardinals go" mantra is now gone...and now it appears our Pro Bowl, NFC Championship, Super Bowl QB is on his way out...and with him, the thirty points a game that got the Cardinals farhter than they've ever been since 1946.

And it looks like more will follow...Anquan Boldin? He is a time bomb waiting to explode...Edgerrin James? He no longer wants to be "held hostage"...Darnell Dockett? Now that his homey Smith is making $7M a year elsewhere and got $12.7M in guarantees, Dockett is going to be far more disgruntled than he was last year, and Dockett has a good case in that he's clearly the better player.

As for Warner...his handling of this situation has been so out of character, it has made me question his character. Is he a fraud?

What a teaser he has been to us, the Arizona fans. In the afterglow of our finest glory, first he has us worried he will retire...then he assures us that if he does play it would only be in Arizona...then we are subjected to the rhetoric of his avaricious, overzealous agent...then Warner tells us he thought it would be easy to re-sign with the Cardinals (what Kurt, you thought dropping a two year $29M tab on Rod Graves' desk was going to be easy? Who in the world are you kidding?)...and all you've told us about how indebted you are to the Cardinals? That now appears to be a crock of puppy dung. And now, after the Cardinals have offered to make you the highest paid player on the team, at yes 38 years of age, your agent says your feelings have been hurt.

Sorry, Kurt, all of this is lame. And what's worst about this is, it's all coming from you and your agent...and your collective lack of character is now conspicuous.

If there were no salary cap...you'd have a better argument.

if you really didn't care about Anquan Boldin and other teammates...you'd have abetter argument.

You CAN'T CARE about Boldin if you want to hog the salary cap. YOU CAN'T.

It makes all that fretting and worrying about Boldin you did on the field and on the bus in NY while and after Boldin was laid out unconscious, seem nothing more than maudlin.

When you leave Arizona, Kurt, you'll be leaving Anquan behind..again...only this time for good.

And what about the fans? We're the one who stay up till 2 AM worrying about you...we're the ones who scrape and claw for every nickel and dime we make in a now impossible econony...and unlitmately we are the ones who PAY your salary on five figure (for most of us, myself included) incomes.

For any of us to feel bad about how your feelings are hurt after you've been offered a two year contract worth at the minimum $20M dollars, is pure absurdity.

I always thought you were different Kurt. I thought you knew a little something about humbleness...that's what makes you so lovable...

But yesterday watching you smirk and say "I have no idea" why things haven't worked out with the Cardinals...watching you say "we thought it would be easy" after you've dropped a $29M bill on the table, I lost valuable vestiges of the faith you had built up in me...and I have been on your side as much as any fan on this board.

You want to talk about feelings, Kurt?

How disillusioning is it for any fan of yours to now realize that you are really no different than any other greedy football player...???

That's what hurts my feelings, Kurt. I believed you were a refreshing anomaly...a modest and kindred soul...a true philanthropist...and an all-out force for the good.

The Kurt Warner I saw on ESPN yesterday is not that man.

Why would the 49ers offer Warner the $29M that the Cardinals won't?

Without Warner, will they win half the NFC West games next season?

The Cardinals went 3-1 in the playoffs this past season.

Without Warner will the Cardinals even make the playoffs next season?

/QUOTE]

*How much of it is guaranteed?

*More than half!

*He can't play on the road, in the cold. They were fortunate they didn't have to go into NY for that Championship game. I'm pretty sure it doesn't get done.

*Yup

All that becomes secondary to him. It's like the extra 2Mil. is worth all this! :(

Isn't it simple? If the 49ers win the division, they make the playoffs. The Cardinals made the playoffs with a 9-7 record and made it all the way to the Super Bowl. If Warner gets hot again, why can't the 49ers?

Reason #1 = No Fitz

Reason #2 = No Quan

Reason #3 = No Whiz

Simplicity at it's best. :)

Who is SF #1 WR atm, Jason Hill? teehee

Warner (and the agent :mulli:) should take into consideration that any extra $$$$ he gets in SF won't take him as far as it would if he stays here in the desert.

How fast we forget. This team can't win with out a high scoring offense the defense just is not good enough yet. Matt has yet to show he can handle the blitz he so far has been a one read QB. And if he is the starter every team will come at him by sending the house. The O line wont hold up the defense wont hold up and we still can't run the ball. And IMO his asking price of 14 million is a lot cheaper than fixing all of that if it could be done in the first place.

This is where I see the same, why go to SF and suck for 2 years if you're Warner? Warner will not be anywhere near MVP level next season if he goes to SF, nor the next year. That'd put a damper on his legacy imho, which I think is important to any aging star QB.

If I'm Kurt, I sign for 10 or 12 M whatever is on the table, and let my Cards add the finishing pieces to the puzzle. I'd get to keep throwing to the best WR in the world, maybe of all time when his career is over.

Fire your agent, and sign the deal very soon. The Cards need to put a deadline on the decision, because if we're going with Leinart, I'd like to change our emphasis on the OL into a more effective runblocking unit instead of this Arena league pass protection bit we did last year. JMHO.

How much GUARANTEED $$$$ are the 9ers offering?! Does ANYONE KNOW! i''LL wager it's not 28M!! We're talking peanuts then, when it comes to living in SF and here in the valley.
