Good. For no other reason than I'm tired of the speculation. Also you can't pay two QB's. It's time to move on.

Been thinking about this, and if Kurt does retire, we can even pick up a vet like Pennington or Bulger as a backup until we lose a Free Agent, since we finished in the Top 8.

sure we can...i believe the way its stated, is that we can bring in any FA whose first year salary is 3.75 mil or less. and if anyone gets cut, they are open game i believe.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Meh. He's going to step up to the podium, and say:

"See Bret, it really only takes a week or two..."

I respectfully disagree with bringing in a vet who was previously a starter

Why? My hypothesis is that we already had a vet in Kurt that was either breathing down his neck or playing in front of him given no chance. He has demonstrated that it is not possible for him to succeed with such pressure. He should be anointed starter with no strings attached and see how he does. With the lack of pressure and freedom to play his game, I feel he will do a much better job because he will not worry about losing his job. Honestly, he has been spoiled his entire football career ever since pop warner when he was automatically the starter and no one could compete with him. It is inarguable that the pressure from a HoF QB is apparent and can affect pretty much any other QB on the team because they find themselves pressing too hard to be like, in this example, Kurt Warner.

We do have to bring in a QB on the open market, as we have only one on the payroll next season. A Bulger or a Pennington will bring the same pressure that Warner gave. I say bring in a person who is solid and not necessarily going to look for a stater's role. Sage Rosenfels comes to mind. On top of that, one mid to late round rookie should be added to the roster.

As a diehard Cards fan, I am cautiosly optimistic about Leinart. I really have no other choice as he is going to be the starter for this team; therefore, he has my utmost support.

Hopefully he decides come June that he misses it ala Brent Favre and comes back for ONE more year. ;)

Question 1 at the media conference? If Matt gets hurt in pre-season, would you come out of retirement to help Larry, Q, and Steve get to the playoffs?

I agree 100%. It sucks thats what it is but you're spot on. He needs to just worry about playing the game rather than when he could be de-seated. If were going to give him the reigns, well then you give him the reigns.

I could see a Bulger or a Pennington only if they are told this is Matt's team. I don't see them coming here under those circumstances though.

In Somers blog he says the Cards dont even know his answer, and it was Warners agent who called the presser not the Cards. Warner isnt even in the country right now.

For those saying there is no other reason to call a presser but to retire that may not be true. Warner has a pretty hefty schedule Super Bowl week to talk about his charities and other companies that are paying him to represent them. He could be calling the presser to get the news out there as best as possible so he can focus more on his business during super bowl week and more questions can be focused to him about his business and not be bombarded with questions about staying or going. Answering all the questions before hand is the smart thing to do whether he stays or goes.

But I think he goes but wouldnt be surprised if he went the other way.

But would he be bringing his whole family just to announce one more year? It sounds like he is preparing for an emotional thing here and not just a "getting this out of the way" thing.

That is a good point. I'm sure he doesn't want to spend all next week answering the 'retirement' question.

Some of you guys are acting shocked at this news. The way the season ended for Warner, the scared look on Branda's face & his concussion against the Rams pointed to this day happening after this season ended. I hate to see him go, but all those signs along with his age & comments to Rick Reilly point to this. It's reality. Thanks #13!!!

I will take that bet.
I might too, but first I'd like to see what happens with the MLB position, Boldin, Dockett and Rolle. I think those things will have a greater impact on our season than the change in QB--there are a TON of exceptional pieces in place in that offense, and while it will be a blow to lose Warner, I think it's easier to hide that than it will be to hide the already exposed defense.

I agree. Surround Leinart with hall of fame talent *cough*Aikman*cough* and we should be fine. I am WAY more worried about the guys we have starting and depth on defense next year. The offense will be different though, that's for sure.

I will make the bet to all who wants too... when I see Leinart is actually our starter. I just dont think he is top 15 QB material...I mean do you guys really believe he is top 15!?!?

I hope for our sake that Steve Young is buried in ol number 7 ....But I am afraid it will be Steve Deberg :(

I know now why Kurt is doing it. So the Cards can trade for Mcnabb before Favre announces he is retiring errr leaving errr resting.

If there is a press conference, whatever his decision we all know that Kurt will bring his Bible, stand at the podium and be pure class.

He's just so special that I'll have trouble letting him go. We have been so blessed to have him on the team and in the community. How often does an athlete like this come along? How often does a human being like this come along?

It's been such a grand journey having him on the team. I want him to do whatever he feels led to do after all the prayer and consideration I know he's been putting into this decision.

Dammit, I really hate to see Kurt go. He's put on some of the best QB performances I've ever seen, I just love watching the guy.
