I think the consensus of the board, sans a couple outliers, is that both options are pretty mediocre. To say with any certainty that Matt is clearly a better option than DA is ridiculous. It seems the tiebreaker is:

A - Fitz, Whis and others have more confidence in DA as a leader
B - The run game would suffer with Matt's dinking and dunking, as defenses wouldn't even have to scheme against the long ball and could put 8 in the box on every play.

Either way, it's hard to get too enthusiastic about our options. On the bright side, a guy like Fitz can make Anderson look much better than he is, and hopefully the deep threat can allow some running room for Beanie and TH. I'll trust in the judgement of Whis, who has seen far more of both of the qb's than any of us, and is making the final decision.

This sounds too much like when our options were Jeff Blake and Josh McCown. Fortunately there is a fully stocked bar not too far from my seats.

The play in the SB? IIRC the play was set up100% correctly. All the WR's were in the correct spot. There was speculation as to would the play work Had Fitz or Boldin I cant remember who lined up a 3 feet further out.

You guys are making it sound as though one of them should have been lined up to the left but was on the wrong side of the field.

Also Whiz is the one that has the problem with it. Thats really all that matters. I want Matt starting.

Not entirely true Shane. http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/4038/breaking-down-harrison-s-interception-return

Point 2 says both Haley and Whiz said they were in the wrong formation. Point 3 is Sando's interpretation of what was wrong about their alignment. I know both Somers and Urban had similar stories I think they indicated that Whiz said Boldin lined up incorrectly.

Point being they were not lined up correctly and Warner still ran the play. ANd again I'm not trashing Kurt for doing so, he probably figured he didn't have time to change the play.

# The Cardinals were in the wrong formation on the play. Coach Ken Whisenhunt and offensive coordinator Todd Haley alluded to this after the game. They said the formation was too tight.
# Anquan Boldin, the receiver Warner would target on the play, was the outside receiver on the weak side. Larry Fitzgerald lined up just inside Boldin and on the line of scrimmage. Both receivers probably should have been lined up much wider, creating the necessary space for Boldin to get open.

the idea that Matt has shown more ability to be good than DA is a freaking joke. You're giving Matt a pass here because a) he's shown the ability to be mediocre... what the Titans game? Sorry, but playing Captain Checkdown and leading the team to a whopping 10 points isn't mediocre. b) he's shown he's not a guy who will lose games for you? The guy was put in mop up duty in BLOWOUTS and almost lost games for us (Jax, Bears game where Kurt had to be put back in, Rams game where we were up 21-3 at the half and then Matt came in and we got one first down in the second half against the worst team in football and had to hold on for dear life with two goal line stands int he final 5 minutes)... all of those games he did anything BUT prove he won't lose games for us, coming into blowouts, with no pressure and having every game get tight on him before either we had to bring our starter back in or had to have the defense hold on for dear life. And then he looked positively ATROCIOUS against the Packers the final game of the season. All we've seen from Matt is mediocre AT BEST for one game or pathetic in the last couple years.

And yet you're proof that he "can be good" is two games as a rookie, when no one had game tape on him, FOUR YEARS ago? TWO GAMES? And yet Anderson's 10-5 record for an entire season can be completely thrown out the window?

You accusing someone else of not living in reality earlier in this thread is laughable K9.

Bottom line, both QBs suck, to try and argue anything else is folly.

How did Matt Leinart "almost lose games" for us? Want to know how many passes that Leinart attempted in 2009 outside of the Tennessee game and the Green Bay game to end the season? 25. 25 passes. He competed 17 of those passes.

What do you want Leinart to do? Help Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells run the ball? Do you actually remember these appearances?

Against Jax:

# 4-6-JAC 48 (2:59) 5-B.Graham punts 48 yards to end zone, Center-82-M.Leach, Touchback.

When Matt came into the game at Jacksonville, the score was 31-10. When he left it was 31-17. What a disaster.

Here's the Seattle game:

Leinart comes in when it's 31-3 and Warner had lead the team bravely to a 24 yard drive that peters out followed by two consecutive three-and-outs.

# 1-10-SEA 48 (5:36) #7 Leinart in at QB 34-T.Hightower left guard to ARZ 47 for -5 yards (59-A.Curry).
# 2-15-ARI 47 (4:55) 7-M.Leinart pass short right to 15-S.Breaston to SEA 42 for 11 yards (26-J.Wilson).
# 3-4-SEA 42 (4:07) 7-M.Leinart pass short left to 11-L.Fitzgerald to SEA 37 for 5 yards (31-K.Lucas) [95-L.Jackson].
# 1-10-SEA 37 (3:26) 26-C.Wells up the middle to SEA 39 for -2 yards (92-B.Mebane).
# 2-12-SEA 39 (2:41) 26-C.Wells left tackle to SEA 39 for no gain (57-D.Hawthorne).
# Two-Minute Warning
# 3-12-SEA 39 (2:00) 7-M.Leinart left end to SEA 38 for 1 yard (54-W.Herring).
# 4-11-SEA 38 (1:12) (Punt formation) Penalty on ARZ-5-B.Graham, Delay of Game, declined.
# 4-11-SEA 38 (1:11) 5-B.Graham punts 27 yards to SEA 11, Center-82-M.Leach, downed by ARZ-27-M.Adams.

What a freaking disaster. Leinart lead the team to a first down, Beanie runs twice for -2 yards and the clock runs out. Man, I can see how the team lost all confidence in Matt from these appearances.

Against the Bears Leinart had the opportunity to attempt 2 passes before getting the hook. Man, he certainly had a chance to show his stuff there. I'm certain Whis might not have been nervous because the D gave up a 93 yard TD drive and then a 28 yard TD strike back-to-back.

Here's Matt against the Rams:

# :)47) (Shotgun) 7-M.Leinart pass short right to 81-A.Boldin to 50 for 5 yards (20-J.Wade).
# 2-5- :)21) PENALTY on ARZ-75-L.Brown, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at 50 - No Play. 10 second run-off
# 2-10-ARI 45 :)06) (Shotgun) 34-T.Hightower left end to SL 49 for 6 yards (55-J.Laurinaitis).
# END QUARTER 2

Seriously, just say that you hate Matt Leinart and you'd rather have a guy who you know sucks rather than a guy who might not suck. Or that you have blind faith in Ken Whisenhunt and there's nothing you can be told that might convince you that this isn't a bad decision.

Ha, on the bright side, we aren't trotting out Jason McCaddley and Kevin Kasper at receiver, and the corpse of Emmitt and the Tugboat at RB. Sadly, we can never bring back the Red Baron.

My only optimism is the fact that we do have quite a bit of talent around these crappy qb options.

Agreed, I'm just pointing out to Shane that the notion that a good veteran QB won't run a play where someone isn't lined up correctly isn't true. IN fact the most painful play in our teams history had that exact thing happen.

I think that's why I initially thought it was Manning, I've mentally blocked that play from memory because it was so crushing.

About 3 rows back on the aisle. Richest guy I know.

Of course now I'll have to take AZCards21 to the games to help buy because we'll need extra.

A) you're putting words into my mouth. No where have I said I hate Matt Leinart. I just don't think he's good.

B) Where did I say I'd rather have a guy who I know sucks rather than a guy who might not suck? I've said I didn't want EITHER guy because they BOTH suck. You can say "Matt might not suck" until you're blue in the face, but based on what I've seen I disagree with you. And if Matt IS given the leeway to "might not suck" I just don't see how you can say the same thing about DA who has actually PROVEN over an entire season that "he might not suck".

C) I don't have blind faith in Wiz. I think starting Hightower over Wells makes no sense to me. I think revamping the entire O-line and bringing in a has-been and handing him the starting job a G makes no sense to me. I think holding on to Bill Davis (or bringing him in for that matter) makes no sense to me. But as to this... the only reason him tinkering here makes sense to me is because I think he's staring at complete drek in front of him and CAN'T make the right call because there isn't a right call to make. I just think he's bent over a barrel right now and has no good answer at the position.

But hey, if you want to put words into my mouth or pull up roll-calls of plays that show that Matt NEVER lead the team to points ONCE in his mop up duties as proof of anything positive in his year last year, well, that's your perogative, just as it's mine not to continue conversative who doesn't want to continue talking intellectually about the subject.

Stop putting words in people's mouths and twisting their arguments and maybe we can talk. Until then, adios.

I don't care why you're doing it Russ. Just stop it and never do it again! For the love of God, I STILL have nightmares about that freaking play.

Hopefully he was actually working hard and not going through the motions. Whis was very pissed after the first two PS games because of simple mistakes that were occuring on offense. Mistakes that Toast seemed to be making...

What Mistakes...!!! His line sucked it all up. no pass protection. Put the blame on Grim and Whiz for assembling an offensive line that allowed Matt to get sacked twice. Then when DA came in there was a better OL inserted with Bridges and Duce.

Matt will probably get traded with in the next week or so, and I hope that he becomes the NFL QB he should have been here.

In Whiz I do not TRUST...!!!

Because Derek Anderson only didn't suck for five games. Three years ago.

You know that the point of the five-minute drill isn't to score points, right? It's to spin clock and end the game.

So calling him Matt Whineheart and calling him a p-u-s-s-y in multiple threads is a sign of your indifference to #7?

All of these statements should give many pause to consider that Whis is not who we hoped he is. Great coaches adjust to the talent they assemble. If ML doesn't comprehend the encyclopedia Whisenhunt then go with the things he does well and understands. Don't chuck it all and go with someone off the street. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't. This is one of those times.

I have blind faith in Wiz.

Until we are no longer defending champions, expect it to stay that way:thumbup:

Because Derek Anderson only didn't suck for five games. Three years ago.

You know that the point of the five-minute drill isn't to score points, right? It's to spin clock and end the game.

So calling him Matt Whineheart and calling him a p-u-s-s-y in multiple threads is a sign of your indifference to #7?

Game. Set. Match.

Add in not hiring an Offensive Coordinator and that despite having several top notch veterans and some really talented young players on defense the Cards have still struggled in varying ways, especially protecting leads, on that side of the ball.

Duck, that can't be overlooked. The struggle there has been epic. Maybe just maybe we have turned the corner on the DL....just in time to lock them out and see it all go poof....such is life as a Cards fan. By the way the bar line was fricken hilarious. Sadly the money is not there any longer( wails and knashs teeth):)

that's great and all, but 3 and outs or 2 minute drives (which if you look at the lengthy post you made above show an abundance of) doesn't really help all that much.

So calling him Matt Whineheart and calling him a p-u-s-s-y in multiple threads is a sign of your indifference to #7?

where did I say I was indifferent from him? I said he sucks and him whining to the press in part of that. That doesn't mean I hate him.

Again, you keep ignoring the fact that I think Anderson sucks as well. I just find it funny that he doesn't get to abide by the same standards as you measure Matt by.

Want to know how many passes that Leinart attempted in 2009 outside of the Tennessee game and the Green Bay game to end the season? 25. 25 passes. He competed 17 of those passes.

Actually, if I'm looking at the stats properly, he went attempted 31 passes in the Tenn game, and a total of 77 passes for the entire season. Which would mean he attempted 46 passes outside of the Tenn game. No?

He said and green bay. No clue why.

This controversy bores me.

A.B.Q. in da house

The Green Bay Game was an exhibition game and he probably wanted to include those. Don't you remember that the Cards were actually 11-5 last season winning the real game vs GB the following week?

And because I don't think that Matt got a lot of practice reps that week, either. There was a chance that game could be meaningful for the Cards and they prepped parallel game plans.
