John Brown, WR -- STEAL OF THE DRAFT (based on two practices in shorts)

per Somers tweet:

"2 practices in, hearing 3rd pick John Brown "is blowing everyone away" w/speed, hands, route running, FWIW"

i have no idea if it will translate to games but if you go to the cards website and watch the film they have up his quickness and fluidity is really really impressive, if he can do the same thing in pads kid is going to be a baller. Its not just how fast he is its his quick twitch movements that were crazy in and out of breaks amazingly fast so much so the other players on the tape looked like they were in slow motion, again will in translate I have no idea, but impressive to see none the less.

I will like nothing more than to look at the Rams and go, "So this Austin guy you drafted... too bad he did not turn out to be Brown" lol

Sounds like another never heard of him WR we had a couple years ago who killed it in preseason games and thats where it ended. Hope this kid really is all that and it translates to the season.

When I watched his college highlights I thought , there goes Sheriff Bing - Bing - Ricochet Rabbit !!! He seems to have the attributes that have made Darren Sproles famous .

I have to admit, I thought he was too small/slight. But when I saw his video, I was VERY impressed. Understand it wasn't against NFL opposition, but can't wait to see how his game translates to the next level.

sounds like PP and Sherman should be scared of him! Fitz might lose his job? I don't think it is over reacting to say we reached for him out of dozens of WR's taken, we'll see.

and that woman she gets uglier and meaner every day , but I got her boy!
And that makes me the winner!

Well the pick was praised across the board by all those draft gurus Kiper, McShay, Mayock. They all love this small school kid. I'll be rooting for him

Yeah people are all over the map on this one. Walter Football is beating us up over taking him '100 picks too early'.

I remember watching the Cards scrimmage the Broncos in Greely Colorado n '93 and Glyn Milburn looking like greased lightning. Super quick and terrific cuts. Nobody could touch him. I thought he was going to be a special RB. But that never happened. Turned out to be a great kickoff return man though.

So if Brown can return kickoffs like Glyn did - we be in the money.

That's the same site that said they were surprised that we took a pure receiving TE in the 2nd round.

Edit: "I'm a bit surprised that the Cardinals spent such a high pick on a pass-catching tight end" to be exact.

Great article Thunder. Below is from the article. Almost the same yardage with a little over half the receptions.

Player Rec Rec Yds Yards Per Catch Rec TD DR Rush Att Rush Yds Rush Avg Rush TD Kick Return AVG Punt Return AVG Return TD’s
Austin 114 1289 11.3 12 28 72 643 8.9 3 25.4 11 2
Brown 61 1198 19.6 14 42 17 100 5.9 2 32.4 11.5 1

What I noticed when I finally watched some tape on him was that he has the same unteachable skill that Ellington has...his cuts come from the hips, not the feet, which means he jukes at full speed and changes direction incredibly fluidly. He doesn't plant and cut, he wiggles and blasts.

It's such a sick skill to have, and now we have two players who move like that.

The first thing I noticed and the most important skill for a wide out... Brown can catch :)
