Whiz does some crazy stuff, like going spread 2 times in a row when only needing 2 yards. Sometimes it works out, but when it doesn't it's like C'mon man. My crap-o-meter was way up there, the predictable plays, defenses keying up on us, rough friggin reggae. Whiz said he gave up the reins, looked like it in the first game, after that I don't know, but we went 1-6.

He could have been right there with the other coaches, looking for employment, but he switched it up. He gets all the credit for it too, well deserved credit. Whiz is conentrating on the game now, cursing out officials, not holding the clipboard over his mouth while he says someone else is calling plays (watch the tape). I don't know if it's one of the Millers, kinda doubt it, smells like new blood with the half time adjustments and all, but Whiz has changed it up and desevres the credit.

The bean gets fed, whether or not it's working, especially in the second half. The playaction gets going, especially in the second half. The defense gets rested, ...in the...

Whiz getting Horton here, man oh man. Zero turnovers during the best defensive effort I can remember as a Cardinal fan? Wins against Dattass and Freako back to back! QB is looking better this week, aside from a kick to the helmet, both our QBs are impressing me in the....second half. :D

I didn't bump this thread, nor did I call YOU out! Confrontational? Really?? Who's really being stubborn here Stout? The truth of the matter is that way too many people on this board did jump the gun regarding Whisenhunt. There's nothing wrong with eating crow, especially when it's deserved. Since when is that uncalled for and unnecessary. I didn't quote anyone with my initial post, nor was I calling out anyone in particular. If anything, you were the one being confrontational. Can we put this to bed??

Right, so because YOU say the truth of the matter is that way too many people jumped the gun, that's the way it must be. There's plenty wrong with eating crow when it isn't warranted, as it is not in this case. So, again, you are wrong in trying to call people out (no, you didn't name names, but it included everyone that dared to criticize the great KW). Since when is calling people out RIGHT WHEN THINGS ARE GOING FINE FOR THE TEAM a good idea? That's what you're doing. I call it bad timing and crass, but you still think that his holiness KW is untouchable, so no one should have dared criticize him.

I'm sorry. I was ready to just forget about it and say agree to disagree, but you start this all up again. Basically, 'what, I'm right, KW critics were wrong, so why would Stout EVER get mad about that?' This is an arrogant post, and so I had to respond to it in kind. IT IS FAIR TO CRITICIZE THE HC WHEN HE IS NOT COACHING WELL. So, I shall not be bending to your sweeping opinions that people were wrong and had to eat crow...that you re-emphasized again in this post. If you can drop your demands that people admit they were wrong about KW (you know, the same people that acknowledge he HAS changed things for the better since the early part of the season), I can drop this argument.

Going spread helps identify blitzers and gives players one on one matchups which is why so many coaches like to go spread on short yardage. It is much tougher to load up your less talented offensive line and ask them to move the other teams defensive linemen and linebackers for two yards than it is to spread a defense out, ask your line for 2 seconds, and have your 2nd or 3rd WR beat the defeneses 2nd or 3rd best corner.

Point that I'm trying to make is that it isn't as poor of a practice as your would think.

Can we get past all this mumbo jumbo. Out of one side of your mouth, you claim it's OK for you to criticize the HC when he's not coaching well. Out of the other side, it's arrogant, crass & bad timing on my part to remind people that they were premature in their condemnation of said HC. Which is it? Because you can't have it both ways. Your opinion is that Whiz became stupid & stubborn overnight and either never could coach or forgot how to coach. My opinion is that KW used bandaids early on to get this team to the playoffs, but all the while KNEW he eventually had to transition this team for the longhaul.

These are opinions. Unfortunately, opinions are like ******s, everyone has one. The fact remains that KW was hired by the most hapless franchise in ALL of sports. In 2007, his 1st year, we had our first non-losing season since 1998, and only our 2nd since the team moved to AZ. One year later, we win the NFC West, the NFC Championship & come within a whisker of winning the SB. We then follow up the next season (2009) with yet another NFC West championship & yet another playoff win. These facts alone should mean that KW IS untouchable for at least 2 more years

It's my contention that in 2009, the transition had already begun. We were a far more balanced team in 2009 than we were in 2008. The retirement of Warner no doubt set this franchise back. Although the transition started, it was nowhere near ready enough to handle the loss of Warner. Without Warner,2010 was ugly. KW definitely made some mistakes along the way. The Cardinals took it on the chin often, but this team played hard regardless. The fact still remains that this coach took us where no Cardinal coach had ever even come close to taking us. After ALL the pain this fan base had endured for decade after decade after decade, it is beyond comprehension that fans were ready to turn on him after one bad season. Shame on those that did.

See, that's the problem. You aren't 'reminding people that they were premature in their condemnation of said HC'; you are rather telling people they need to eat crow for daring to criticize him. You see it as him using band-aids; I see it as stubborn refusal to change. And it hasn't happened overnight. I couldn't count the number of times over the KW years that people have blasted him for poor play calling and lack of adjustments. I'm not saying I regret now that he's our HC. He has clearly turned it around, and has earned incredible levels of kudos for doing so.

Basically, you came out really strongly, only allowed for one opinion (those that criticized him must now eat crow), and you did so right when the board was all together in one opinion, that KW is now doing an outstanding coaching job. Well, I see it the opposite way, and don't think anyone that criticized him fairly needs to eat any crow. That biased stuff in your first post really rubbed the wrong way. Sorry it devolved into this.

Are you two done. Stout you're wayyyyyyyyyyy overboard and flat out wrong in this argument IMO but he's my father so I don't expect my opinion to be valued here. All I can say is that outside of fans from this team, I have yet to hear anyone consider him to be on the hotseat. A called phoned in to espn radio a month or so ago while I was in the car asking if Whiz's job was in danger and the hosts (someone and rich Gannon I believe) laughed out loud at him and hung up on the guy. Gannon then went on for 5 minutes saying that around the league, Whiz is widely regarded as a top ten coach and top five in his opinion. I think it's fair to say that you're a pretty emotional guy and perhaps you let that get the best of you in regards to Whiz. I'm known to do the same so don't feel as though I'm attempting to throw stones from a glass house here.

Again, I don't care what others say I should or should not think. IMO it is very warranted to have doubted KW a while ago, even though we all knew there was no way he would be fired. That doesn't mean other people can't have other opinions, but that does mean that their opinions aren't 100 percent certain, and it does mean I don't like it when people write about having to eat crow.

This is pretty accurate. Most national and even local media personalities never thought Whis was in danger of losing his job, because he wasn't. Two bad seasons following two playoff runs and the retirement of a hall of fame QB does put you on the hot seat. Change is the enemy of progress in the NFL and good teams try and avoid it at all cost.

You're kidding right? You say you knew he wasn't going to be fired, but you shouldn't eat crow for saying he was gonna be fired?? If it's so obvious that he was doing a piss poor job, why was his job never in jeopardy? Have you always known more about football than the people employed by and within the league as well as those who are paid to cover it? Please just give this one up.

You claim he was stubborn and then changed. My question is when??? In the beginning of the year we were losing by a point or two and now we're winning by a point or two. With a new QB and a brand new defense, you dont thing that the team has gotten a few points a game better through improved chemistry and increased knowledge of the system they're attempting to execute?

If you dont want to admit that you were wrong, like every person ever born is on occasion, that's fine; please just let it go.

The truth of the matter is that we were losing games in the beginning of the year because our D couldn't stop anyone. Now we win because they do. Enough said.

Nice reference! I think about them on occasion when I see NUFC fans acting like idiots (not that they're the only English soccer fans that do so!).

Two bad seasons following two playoff runs and the retirement of a hall of fame QB does put you on the hot seat. Right, we knew he wasn't going to get fired, but a great many posters on this board were saying that he SHOULD be, based on the coaching decisions that he was making. Or rather, the decisions he was NOT making.

You're kidding right? You say you knew he wasn't going to be fired, but you shouldn't eat crow for saying he was gonna be fired?? Now you're just embarrassing yourself and taking over the mantle of arrogant poster from your father (not a surprise that you're so passionate here...no bias there!). I NEVER said he was going to get fired. Earlier in the season, I said that he SHOULD be fired, and even THEN admitted that he wouldn't, even if he sucked all season. Check your reading comprehension, hombre. Your father then came onto this thread calling for people to eat crow for calling out KW on his coaching earlier this season. In NO WAY did I ever say he actually WOULD get fired. If you're going to jump in all aggressive in defense of your father, maybe you should actually read the stupid thread first!!!

When did he change? Right around when Skelton came in. Fans on this board were screaming for us to dial down the 4 and 5-wide passing scheme, call in some extra pass protection, and focus more on the run. KW refused to do this early in the season. These were easy, no-brainer fixes, but they run contrary to his 'system', and so he was stubborn and stuck to his guns. When he FINALLY adjusted, gee, it worked out pretty well. Of course, I've mentioned all of this before, but I guess if you misquoted me grossly in one area, I couldn't expect you to read that either.

And, finally, once again, you reiterate that you and your father (the stance you guys are taking) are the only ones with the possible correct opinion. You again call for me to simply offer a mea culpa, as if I am in the wrong. Aside from you quoting so incorrectly what I'm arguing, IMO it is wrongheaded to look at the early part of the season and not realize how KW's failure to make adjustments hurt us. Sure, we lost some squeakers, but how much of a lead might we have had in those games if he was coaching effectively then, as he is now?

The truth of the matter is that we were losing games in the beginning of the year because our D couldn't stop anyone. Now we win because they do. Enough said.

The truth of the matter is that we could have won some of those games handily if KW had been willing to make adjustments to help our struggling QB. The truth of the matter is that, now that our D is playing so tough, our offensive struggles make less of a difference. The truth is that, with the adjustments to our offense, they are able to just do enough to help us win with our improved D.

You know, it all boils down to that I and many others (who are strangely absent now), felt that KW was doing a poor coaching job early in the season. You and your dad think he was doing a fine job. That's okay, believe it or not. Differences in opinion are fine. When one side (you and your father) decide that only one opinion is appropriate, and carry it further in calling for crow eating and mea culpas, well then, we have a problem. You two are not omniscient, and do not know everything. Nor do I. That's why we have opinions, and that's why we're each entitled to our own.

I am sorry that I came down hard on your dad's post, but it really irked me that he was calling for a blanket apology when it is only his opinion. If you can stop misquoting me, stop saying I need to admit that I'm wrong when I very much feel that KW was not doing a good job making adjustments early in the season, then we can move past this. Pax?

Maybe that's something we can all agree with.

That is something I can certainly agree with. He improved his schemes and showed why he's the coach that has turned the Cards around.

I agree that I felt he should have been fired earlier in the season, based on his lack of adjustments, and you certainly did not. He since did indeed change his stripes, thankfully, and he may have done it in time for us to make the playoffs. As I said, since he showed willingness to change and fixed his mess, I am very glad to still have him.

So what exactly did he change? Did he instruct the team to score a few more points while giving up a few less? We are running the same plays, except we execute more often these days.

The bottom line is that you said he should be fired while other individuals said otherwise. It's blatently obvious that we are in fact a better team with Whiz in command than we were under other coaches and he isn't going anywhere. You said we would be better without him and were wrong. Why is this so difficult for you to comprehend?? Please just man up because this is beyond old. I thought Andre Roberts was going to be great, we are all wrong from time to time.

Right, we knew he wasn't going to get fired, but a great many posters on this board were saying that he SHOULD be, based on the coaching decisions that he was making. Or rather, the decisions he was NOT making.

Pax?

I agree with what you are saying 100%.

There have been many, many reason to criticize Whisenhunt over the past couple years including personnel decisions, clock management, in-game adjustments, lack of preparedness etc. To his credit, he has greatly improved all of these areas but still has a way to go. He was never in jeopardy of losing his job one year after receiving an extension.

Eat crow? Not quite, but I will say that my perception of him has changed.

Top 5 coach? No way, can't convince me of that now. IMO, you can't be a top 5 HC in this league without being able to do at least one thing well. Quick, someone tell me something that Whis excels at. X's and O's? good talent evaluator? clock manager? getting the most out of players? in-game adjustments? He's average or below in all of these areas.

All that being said, he is the best coach we have had here for decades. I don't want to see him fired... unless we struggle early next year as well.

So what exactly did he change? Did he instruct the team to score a few more points while giving up a few less? We are running the same plays, except we execute more often these days.

:bang: For like the umpteenth time, I will repeat this. In fact, I'll simply cut-and-paste what I already wrote ON THIS PAGE OF THE THREAD. Thanks for proving that you haven't read ANY of my posts.

And I quote...myself: "When did he change? Right around when Skelton came in.

Yeah, I and MANY others said he should be fired. It is obvious NOW that he shouldn't be fired. He was coaching like dog crap early in the season. I have outlined many times how he has indeed changed his coaching this season, so I am very much not in the wrong. AT THE TIME, he was doing a poor job, and led us to a 1-6 record. We lost close games, sure, but they may not even have been close had he done his job properly. Maybe this time you'll actually READ my reasons instead of IGNORING them.

Agreed on all points, DCR. It is good to see that SOMEONE actually reads what I post before responding to it or taking it out of context.

Remind me to pee in your drink the next time you come up to Annapolis ;-)

Whiz excells in many of those areas IMO. His system is very good IMO, it just takes dedicated and intelligent players to execute it. It's not in his job description to be a good talent evaluator. That is the responsibility of the scouts and our GM. Clock management is way overrated and very tough to grade without knowing what the staff's though process is at any given time in the game. He is unquestionably a GREAT motivator IMO. When have you ever seen our team come out flat in a big game?? Seeing him elevate them for the playoffs was nothing short of miraculous for me. Fitz and Dockett have both named him as a key reason for re-signing. That alone should tell you something. His in-game adjustments have been very good IMO. How about the second half of the super bowl? How about last week in the SF game? How about when he stuck Warner in in Baltimore to run the 2 minute offense when Leinart was still the starter?
