Pretty much. I am downright shocked we won that game. Everything was old Cardinal-esque (the fumble at the end, the horrible call calling it a fumble, them getting another chance, going down the field, etc)

Yes.

Lucky as H-E-double hockey sticks.

I will say this.

As hard as the offense tried to give this game away, the defense prevented it from happening.

Except for one "wish and a prayer" bomb on Toler, the Rams didn't really do too much.

So fricking what? I don't care if they out gained us 400 yds to 2, as long as we won.

BTW, the greatest play of the game, Breaston's, was NOT lucky.

lucky? no.

they won the game even though the Rams got a "do over" after the game should have been over.

No. Actually, we overcame a lot of crap we put ourselves in. Luck had NOTHING to do with that win. If you want to play luck, we were unlucky. Fumbles on opening drive, on the 5 yard line down 3, after an INT that should have been overturned.

We were in the backfield ALL day, hitting Bradford over and over again, and he threw until his arm fell off.

The only LUCKY thing we had going for us was that we were facing the Rams with a rookie QB instead of a Manning and the Colts or something, and that's simply the luck of the draw.

Whoever won that game was going to be rather lucky. That was exhausting.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Pretty typical for an opener really. Both teams fought their guts out. The Rams will be respectable this year. I think we'll look back and be really glad we got them in St. Louis now instead of December.

Our defense had some moments but all in all they were disappointing too IMO. That was a pretty mediocre offense they went up against.

We were fortunate, but the biggest play wasn't luck, that was incredible hustle by Steve Breaston to knock that ball out.

That incredible hustle is there in the 'NO QUIT' that the guys in RED displayed this week. It was visible not only in Breaston and the O-line, but by the QB and the entire Defense. This team literally willed out a win this week against a much improved Rams team that is starting to believe in itself. We would never have done that Pre-Whiz. The fact that the offense is now buying into the same thing as the defense shows that we have come a long way, despite the loss of personnel this off season. No one on that offense year before last was willing to chase down the ball carrier on the last play before that half in the Super Bowl. That says something for our coaching staff. Not only did Breaston chase, but so did Sendlein, Keith, and Levi Brown. That mentality is exactly what is needed to win on the road-----and this team has developed it. Witness the improvement in Road Wins last year from the SB year. I like our chances in Atlanta.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

If you watch the replay, Breaston was running harder than his human limits. You can see his limbs flailing around like crazy. That play was all heart with no luck whatsoever....

I agree now after further thoughts, the winner was decided (Go Cards) by the team who played harder. The whole team put in a good effort that resulted in a win on the road.
Much props to everybody. Also I think the Lions should be credited with the win against my Bears. If you go by score, the Lions won that game. I realize the !!! I CANT BELIEVE I AM SAYING THIS!! call was nothing but a joke in the NFL's rulebook. I would be livid if it happend to the cards or bears. Passion is a hell of a drug, thank God we all have it.

The Rams were the lucky team. How many times are they going to get the opportunity to start the season at home against a team that has seven turnovers? They were lucky they were even in the game.

As nice as that sounds...... there is a LOT of luck that goes into every game.

Perhaps, but only if we accept the premise that luck is when opportunity meets preparation.

Not sure I agree with this either. A person could trip over his own shoelaces that has nothing to do with the other team's preparation.

You make your own luck, especially in the NFL.

You can't make your own 'luck.'

Definition of Luck said:
Luck or fortuity is good or bad fortune in life caused by accident or chance, and attributed by some to reasons of faith or superstition, which happens beyond a person's control

You can force yourself to be in the right place to capitalize on luck, but you don't 'make your own luck.'

Not lucky. May not have been pretty but 2 NFL teams played that game. Games in the NFL are hard to win. Sometimes the wind blows a certain way and other times not so much. Fumbles, interceptions, blocked field goals, hard hitting, No luck here, just talent.

That's it. It has been 5 years since the Cards opened against anyone other than the 4and9ers and our guys were confused for awhile. Once they finally realized it was the Rams it was game over.

Luck is where preparation and opportunity meet. "Luck" as a reason for something happening doesn't exist.

It wasn't "lucky" that Breaston chased down the fumble and stripped the ball. It was preparation, remembering the Super Bowl, amazing speed and athleticism and the opportunity to make that play.

Edit: As to your shoelaces example..that isn't luck. That is the preparation of the other team...why did he have shoelaces too long that they could be stepped on? Not well prepared. Slipped on the playing field? Why not prepared with better cleats for the condition? For basketball, if you prepare and don't know a floor and its deadspots, and you go to one and try to make a move and lose the ball, is that luck for the other team, or is it you failing to prepare for everything?

Luck is a crutch.
