If we let Marion's contract expire, how would we be able to make a major trade?? I assume you mean a sign-and-trade...

That might not have even have worked either. You would have to assume that another team was wiling to pay Marion the max besides the Suns at the time.

I agree that letting him expire made no sense at all. You let a player walk and get no value in return. Not to mention that even if you had Marion's cap space, high impact free agents rarely switch teams unless it's a trade. It's a big assumption to assume the Suns would get one at all.

Letting guys walk in the NBA is generally a really really bad move because a free agents original team can always pay a player a higher salary which means there is little incentive to leave unless you want to leave a ton of money on the table. If a high impact player wants to really leave nowadays they usually demand a trade.

I always wonder if the Marion saga was blown up by the media. I only met him once, but he seemed very happy to be a Sun, and enjoyed playing basketball. I also wonder now that he's being traded so much, if he feels he should have stayed put with the SUns?

If he stayed put as Power Forward alongside a Power Forward at Center, and wanted to be considered an elite superstar, it would not have worked.

He left the Suns because he did not want to be 3rd banana, even though he was overpaid.

Having run into him at Yoshi's during lunch regularly, and trying to strike up brief conversations to no avail, left me feeling that was not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

Whatever he feels in retrospect would probably not reflect any more logic than what he felt at the time.

Trading Marion for Shaq was a gamble that was intended to improve the team. It didn't save Sarver any money. I don't have a problem with them taking a calculated risk to improve the team.

If you want to play "what if" or trash the front office you should revisit KT and TWO #1s for NOTHING!!!

Who in the right mind would trade your backup center and TWO firsts for nothing? Even my one-year-old little cousin would realise that that is lopsided..

The only reasons why Steve and Rob would've done thta trade was because:

A: Sarver has ridiculously tight pockets. (Which is 100% true)

and

B: Kerr thought that, because we were going to make it deep in the playoffs, then the picks wont be worth much anyway.... I guess thats why he traded for Shaq..

But what REALLY puzzles me is, Kurt Thomas, who could bang around inside, could've done pretty much what Shaq did (which was to bang around inside.) So why did we have to lose Marion..?
