That was the dominating victory from the Cardinals I was waiting for with a runner like Johnson. The Jets where undermanned and we physically beat them. This team has a new identity with our running game and it's great to see Arians adapt

Yeah was astonishing to see the Cards win the line of scrimmage on offense. Watford is a good guard and Wetzel is for sure competent. I feel a lot better about the Mathis injury after tonight.

Really? We eventually wore them down, but for most of the game we certainly didn't win the line of scrimmage. And, after this game, I'm especially worried about our guard play. They served against a bad team, but won't serve for the whole season.

Regardless if the Jets are a bad team, the Cards ran the ball on the #2 ranked running D in the NFL!!! 170 yards ain't nothing to sneeze at & I was actually worried we couldn't run the rock on them & Bowles would beat Palmers brains in because BA passed it 50+ times.

Come on Stout...the game plan was set & executed to perfection.

Agreed that Jets front 4 is pretty "stout" pardon the pun. They came in as the second ranked d against the run, and we took it to them. As far as we wore them down that is pretty much what any running game does.

They came in as the 2nd run defense because they were the worst against the pass. Teams just aren't trying because their pass defense is VERY poor. Pretty much what happened to us the first half of last year as well.

I'm not trying to diminish what DJ did, but the numbers can be a bit misleading.

Yeah I'm not certain what stout wanted. Those guys played pretty well against what is considered one of the very best defensive lines in the game. DJ had THREE WALK-IN TDs. I can't ever remember the cardinals getting that.

They had only given up 2.2 yards a run up until last night. I get that teams might be throwing more against them, but that could be due to the fact you can't run against them. It could go both ways, and that is why I looked at yards per carry instead of per game.

Anybody trying to discredit the guard play last night needs to go stick their head in the sand… That Jets defensive line is the best in football arguably... just because their backend isn't very good doesn't mean their front end isn't a dominant front four… Widely regarded as one of the most talented in football maybe even equal to the Rams. Those too young guards were more than adequate and bordering on impressive!!!

What we did against that DL was amazing. I mean 171 yards rushing and no sacks. The Jets have played some pretty good teams so far.

The guard play was fine. More than fine. It was surprisingly effective. Pressure on Palmer came from the outside. Johnson had holes wide enough to drive a car through on those TD runs.

And to not give credit for wearing the Jets down with the run game? Ha! That is the whole point of a run game!

Whoa, I'm not knocking the team here or anything, guys. I was just commenting on an inaccurate post. I don't think our guard play going forward will be good enough--but what do we expect when our two starters are out? Last night was clearly a matter of wearing that stout (pun intended) D-line down. BA dialed up that perfect run play for the TD, but after that, our run game was largely stuffed until late. That's all I was commenting on--we WEREN'T winning the LOS. Our fine offensive game plan, however, let us grind that D-line down until we did dominate it late.

Don't misunderstand me--I LOVED what we did last night, and loved that we stuck with the run even when it wasn't working. With the Jets unable to keep their D off the field, it both kept them honest and wore them down. Great game plan and execution, IMO. And DJ? Holy crap, DJ! What a pick he was, and thank you, Lions, for making it happen :)

Humphries is a problem in pass pro, though, as will being forced to play our backups at G going forward. What's the injury status there, btw?

Well, if you take away the 58 yd run, he only had 53yds on 21 carries - what does that average out to?

The best part was the total number of runs and the goal line dominance. It made them respect play action and that's when Palmer is at his best. I still think Palmer is not as sharp as last year. I wonder if that hand has not come all the way back.

Why would you take away the 58 yard run? He made those yards too! I never understood this reasoning.

I guess we're looking for consistency. If all the other runs were 2,3 yds and one was a fluke then you'd take that out of the equation. I know there's a mathematical/theoretical term for that, just don't know the name - law of averages? :)

But the combination of long and short runs is how it works in the NFL. The threat for busting out a big run is what makes play action and everything else work better. Any stat that disregards the big play is faulty.
