I guess not all of Keim's moves are successful.

Weatherspoon zero snaps vs Rams, coaching decision.

Steve Keim is 100% effective, 60% of the time. Or whatever. No one's perfect. But what huge upside if he had worked out. We will suffer all season with sub par linebacking. Probably know where the focus will be next off season.

...And while NOT all "moves" work out...

I can behind a GM who is pro-active and DOESN"T rely on the hot dog vendor as being a capable replacement if we lose a starting lineman! :bang:

Is he still not a 100% from injury or are the coaches just not happy with him?

I think he can't get on the field ahead of Bucannon (which is bad), but Minter calls the defensive plays, and hasn't been bad enough to send to the bench.

That's my view from outside.

I had picked up weatherspoon in an IDP league figuring he would rack up tackles. I think he has 2.5 tackles on the year or something like that. He has been completely useless and overpaid.

I would agree with this - I don't like using Bucannon (100% of snaps yesterday) as much as we are at ILB.

In fact, we are seeming to drift towards a base defense more and more with a heavy DB load. I don't think that is sustainable and shows how lousy our LB group is this year.

Yeah...I believe they thought Weatherspoon would be a Washington type replacement, and I believe they see now that he is just small and slow. The injuries over the years to his legs seem to have taken a toll. Unfortunate that we are having the same ILB issues that we had last year.

I wonder what it would cost to trade for Dansby?

Achilies injuries are really hard to come back from. I have yet to see a player come back to full strength/speed from that injury. The most recent I remember was Crabtree...and he was a shell of his self speed wise.

The explosion and speed just won't return.

Not that I didn't like Sean, it's just an injury I would have avoided...I'd stay away from signing guys that have that injury.

Suggs came back pretty strong from an Achilles injury.

Corey Peters came back from his just fine. He looked good less than a year after his tear while in Atlanta. He was looking really good in the preseason for us... until he unfortunately tore the tendon in the opposite leg.

I have two issues with the signing of Sean Weatherspoon.

1-They didn't sign/draft anyone else in case a guy who has been out the better part of two years got reinjured.

2-They paid him way too much for the one year of the deal unlike they have done with most other vets they bring in.

I was definitely worried about 1

So...what are you willing to trade for Dansby?

Have you watched him play this year, is he still los or has he slowed down at all?

What are the CAP ramifications, he made great coin from the Browns but how much was signing bonus and how much will he count against our CAP.

If the above questions are answered with positives then I'd give up a 4th rd pick and Jaron Brown with us getting back a 6th or 7th rd pick.

I think Witherspoon only plays in the goalline defense that they never went to against the Rams.

His problem is that the Cards base defense has been more of a nickel with Bucannon at ILB.

They will probably need him before the season is over.
