mediocre at best. Vince Vaughn was decent in it - Owen - eh - Walken - a complete waste of space - they gave him nothing to do. The Cameo was pretty good and really the highlight for me. There's one REALLY funny scene, but that was about it - the rest of it was just mild chuckles every once in a while. Go in with low expectations and you probably won't be dissappointed.

That being said - this has HIT written all over it.

Wow, what movie did you see?

I saw a movie where some of the biggest laughs were supposed to come from an extremely tired Adam Sandler-like SMASH SOMEONE IN THE FACE football games as substitutes for comedy. Then a oh so typical "disrupt the wedding" scene. Bottom line - every time Vince Caugh wasn't on screen, the movie screamed and smelled of retread Hollywood schlock comedy.

Walken was TOTALLY wasted in that film, the boyfriend was your stock character from a hundred of these type of movies and Owen wasn't given much to do except play patty-cake with the cute hottie (who had no character whatsoever). That was the movie I saw.

Although the cameo and it's role in the movie was good. Beyond that and Vaughn's performance- the movie was mediocre at best.

Tell me Mike - what were the scenes that had you rolling in stitches - as a comedy writer I'm curious to know what exactly was so fresh and funny in that movie. I'll give you the dinner scene - that was a very good one and the highlight of the movie for me and the scene with the painter and Vince Vaughn and the extended cameo - but what else was really funny? What were the other comedic setpieces that weren't already blown in the trailer?

Im not Mike but some of my favorites were...Vince with the Priest. Vince tied up by the freaky girl and her brother and one of my favorite lines..." Todd, the painting was a gift and im keeping it".
I do agree with whoever said that any scene Vince wasn't in wasn't that good. I liked Owen Wilson in the first Shanghai movie...every other movie he has been in since he has played the same part. The movie didnt need him. I find it totally implausable that any woman finds him attractive and no, not because of the nose...the whiny voice and Ellen Degeneres' haircut are enough to ruin him for me.

The whole "Rules" were hilarious, and actually somewhat truthful...how they crashed weddings, and knew exactly what to do in order to get women to notice them...

That was all very funny...

And after the dinner scene...when Vaughn goes from mad at Owen Wilson to asking about the mom's breasts...the timing was amazing...

The scene with the priest...

I dunno...if you didn't think anything was funny but one scene, then you must be too uptight :)

I think Vince Vaughn is a tremendous actor, I don't know why he keeps doing these comedies where he is 2nd fiddle. If you ever seen the movie "Clay Pigeons" with Joaquin Phoenix, Vaughn is absolutely brilliant.

My point being, Vince could be a lead actor instead of a secondary character

Yeah - that must be my problem.

So basically - the first couple minutes of the movie, a brief scene after the dinner scene, and another brief scene with the priest - well that makes up about 15 total minutes of hilarity in a comedy. Sorry - my standards are a little higher.

And I guess it makes me uptight if I don't think tired recycled jokes like the racist/swearing grandparent or people getting smashed during football games isn't high comedy. There's a difference between stupidity and comedy - this movie went for stupidity (and tired stupidity) far too often.

Oh - and Clay Pigeons was a GREAT movie - but then again Ryan - that ain't exactly a comedy. Personally, I don't know if Vaugh CAN carry an outright broad comedy - no one wants to see him do the mushy lame crap that Owen had to do in this flick and in order to be the lead in Hollywood, you have to go through some sort of transformation. Vaughn's awlays better at playing that character (Trent in Swingers, Earmuffs Dad in Old School and here) which doesn't change, but plays the funny/abrasive guy to Owen and Luke Wilson and Jon Favreau's straight man.

Not since Bill Murray has anyone been able to play off somewhat unlikable for full length features and Hollywood sure as hell is loathe to risk making a film about a truly unlikable protaganist in a comedy now.

That was a joke, btw :)

well then maybe I AM uptight! :D

I'd probably see I'm more bitter than anything else really. I LOVE comedy and this one kept getting hyped as an "old school" R rated romp but it didn't live up to the hype for me. Simply throwing in a montage of breasts (and don't get me wrong - I like a good montage of breasts as much as the next guy) at the beginning of the film, doesn't mean the film automaticaly has Animal House, Caddyshack-type style raunch or comedy.

it started off kinda slow, though, and i wasn't expecting much cuz of that, but it picked up real nice.

i am a big fan of Rachel McAdams too, and thought she did a good job.

The dinner scene was HILARIOUS.

Saw it tonight. I rather liked the Mrs Roosevelt joke by the old lady.. I laughed my ass off at that, although I doubt too many of the teenagers in the theater got it. She did look very manish... lol

Some Vets Condemn 'Wedding Crashers' Site
Sunday July 24, 2005

Some military veterans and law enforcement officials are angry about a Web site promoting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's comedy "Wedding Crashers."

To win the affections of attractive bridesmaids in the movie, two fun-loving partiers pretend to be Purple Heart recipients.

New Line Cinema's movie Web site includes a fake, paper Purple Heart to cut out, with the spoof: "Carrying a Purple Heart in your jacket guarantees you attention, admiration and plenty of free booze."

"I challenge the producer of that movie to go to Walter Reed Hospital and walk through the ward and see if he still wants to print out a fake Purple Heart," said Thomas Cottone, Jr., a special agent with the FBI who enforces a federal law that prohibits wearing, manufacturing, buying, selling or trading a Medal of Honor.

"Talk to some of these people who don't have legs anymore and see how funny they think that movie is."

New Line Cinema, which produced the movie, did not return a phone message.

A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives Friday would expand federal law to allow prosecution of anyone who falsely claims to have earned a military medal or a Purple Heart.

"Here's an example of Hollywood imitating life. Hopefully it brings to the American conscience that this is what is happening," said Doug Sterner, a Vietnam veteran who runs a Web site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients.

this is beyond stupidity. The guys at the beginning of the movie are being portrayed as ******** - them putting on the purple heart is basically acknowledging how wrong it is to do it.

Good lor d- people will complain about EVERYTHING these days.

Can you guys imagine what would happen if Blazing Saddles came out today?

I find it distressing that during a time of war, veterans groups are spending their time on this nonsense.

To me, it's funny if it's a scene from a movie, but when the website has a fake purple heart to print and cut out...that's a bit much, don't you think?
