It looks like the Hawks are down for the count....

That pick is looking good???

Sorry but there is Big New coming in Hawks country!

It was said yesterday on Fox News Radio:

Atlanta and Sacremento are close to a deal that will send Mike Bibby to Atlanta for Sheldon Williams, Salim Stoudemire and some other garbage. Trade should be finalized by Monday.

Then it was confirmed by the Hawks beat writer.

This will give us the PG we need. He can shoot the 3pt, steal and get the ball to the open man. No one needed this more then Marvin Williams and JJ.

The Suns only hope is that we still have A SORRY ASHER COACH!

Wait, you aren't really dumb enough to think that the Hawks will be a good team after getting Mike Bibby are you?

Dream on.. Bibby sucks. Just like the Hakws.

Is this the same Hawks that were going to get Amare Stoudemire?

But then they supposedly didn't only because their ownership wouldn't take on contracts with more than a year left?

ease up people... you guys aren't better than the op by blasting him like that..

the trade is actually interesting in away... but will it help Atlanta... 1 thing is JJ can play point and Bibby can spot up.

It makes that team better, and that team is already a "playoff team" in the East. Not that you have to be a winning team to be a "playoff team" in the East.

Really Sacramento? Sheldon Williams and Salim Stoudamire? Here's an idea. Ask for good player that can help your team. They should be able to get one of the following: Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, or Al Horford.

There is no report of this anywhere besides an internet message board rumor started by a Buck's fan. There is also a huge salary discrepancy. Mike Bibby makes 13.5 mil while Sheldon Williams and Salim Stoudamire make a combined 5 mil. There must be an awful lot of "some other garbage" to get this trade done.

Yep, sick isn't it?

Wait, as of today they are the 9th team, but tied. They were the six seed a few days ago. It's insulting that losing records will go to the playoffs in the east.

I thought "some other garbage" was referring to the whole team?

That's just the way it goes. The Suns have made the playoffs with losing records in the past.

Boston and Detroit are legit but there is nothing after that.

IMO the biggest problem with the ATL pick is that at the end of the season when the east goes into full tank mode the Hawks will continue to play hard having nothing to gain by losing.

...and that one team could conceivably win 50 games this season in the other conference and still not make it to the playoffs.

It is kind of cute that Milwaukee and Atlanta have some sort of rivalry going though, intense enough for them to make up trade rumors about the other team. It's like a dog-eat-dog contest to see who gets steamrolled by Boston in the first round!

Not only that, but New Jersey and Philly (currently above them) are in the more difficult division that also has Toronto. And the Hawks have two terrrrrrible teams in their division.

Oh, and I'd add Orlando as legit too (most of their losses are against the West). 3 good teams, the rest is varying degrees of crap.

Hawks will make the playoffs.

Yeah, but the 6, 7 and 8 seed will all likely have losing records. Not the 8 seed squeaking in with a 2 game under. They might have more than one team in there that is 10 games under. That's just ridiculous.

Isn't it conceivable that TWO teams with 50 wins could be shut out in the West?

I was checking out NBA Attendance Statistics to try to determine what kind of following the Hawks might have in the midst of another terrible season. At 20th out of 30, it's very "meh."

INTERESTING SIDENOTE: The other thing that caught by eye is that the conference-leading New Orleans Hornets are 29th out of 30 in attendance. They consistently fail to sell around 6000 tickets for every home game! Keep in mind that these stats come from after their move back to New Orleans Arena, which has a stated capacity of 18,500. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that New Orleans does a terrible job of supporting their team, regardless of the Hornets' success.

edit: And if you sort based on percentage of total capacity, Phoenix is 4th overall and New Orleans is dead last:

It IS, actually, but my reasoning is that most teams in the Best have already been on their record-padding Leastern road trips, and so there's going to be a lot of infighting between the borderline teams. That will drive their records down. For instance, Houston has to play almost all the playoff teams in their own conference from here on out. So you figure somebody is going to lose those and not hit the 50-win mark.

I don't see this happening because most remaining games are within the conference. Somebody has to lose.

Why would Sacramento even consider this trade if there is not more than garbage in this deal. I think Bibby is very attractive in a trade to many teams in the NBA. Even if these two players from Atlanta are expiring contracts, I do not see it unless there is much more in terms of quality added to the trade.

Maybe JJ. :)

i believe the priority is moving bibby more than getting expiring contracts, and mike really hasn't done anything significant for the team for the past 2-3 years (beno udrih did a great job in his absence, which probably influenced it, plus he's relatively cheap). yes, they would have gotten a better deal since there are a handful of teams who would like to have him, i guess we'll have to hear the press conference to find out...
