We have Cleveland at home, Cincy on the road and Seattle at home to finish out the season. Cleveland and Seattle at home should both be W's and Cincy in Cincy, while their reccord looks good, keep in mind they haven't beaten a team with a winning record yet this season. If we win out and go 9-7 and the following happens (I think the outcomes below are very likely..we're in.

Detroit (9-7)
@oak - W
SD - L
@GB - L

Chicago (9-7)
sea - W
@GB - L
@min - W

Giants (9-7)
dal - W or L
was - W
@jets - W
dal - W or L

Dallas (9-7)
@NYG - W or L
@TB - W
phil - W
@NYG - W or L

We own the tie breaker against all 4 of these teams.

Isn't head-to-head the first tie breaker? If so, we lost to the Giants.

Hmm, I think you're right. The playoff generator gives us the spot if we're both 9-7???? Can anyone shed some light on this?

99% sure it's head to head first.

I wonder why the playoff generator doesn't recognize that? That would SUCK if the refs blown call when the Giants receiver "gave himself up" and let go of the ball at the end of the game is what cost us a playoff spot

Its because there will be more than two teams with the same record. From NFL.COM:

Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
  2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in conference games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss
When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.

Remember we can't count on GB winning games they may not care at that point unless they just want to be 16-0 that badly they don't rest starters.

But it does seem like if we win out we have a reasonable shot to get in.

I can't work out who we need to win tonight?!?
Dallas because they hold the tie breaker over the Giants if they wind up tied... But really we just need the Bears to keep sucking, they are the most likely team ahead of the cards to end up behind them.

They won the SB last season, they only way they can up that it to win it again while going 16-0. They will not lay down in any game.

they just lost Greg Jennings likely for a couple weeks... believe me, that will cool their jets about going for a record instead of being healthy for what really matters.

For me I really dont even care so much about the playoff picture right now. Only because it's out of our hands and I dont think the guys are playing FOR that necessarily. The past month have just been our guys, playing their butts off for eachother and I'm loving it. To get focused on the playoffs too much will really bum me out if we get eliminated even if we keep winning.

Not trying to be negative, I would love to see us make it, but right now I'm so thrilled with how these guys have turned this season around I'm just enjoying it.

Oh absolutely, but who would have thought 6 weeks ago we would even get one night dreaming about it.

Absolutely. After how lousy the first 8 weeks were, depressing, agonizing, frustrating, you name it, it's so awesome to see these guys improving by the week, playing with heart and getting big wins. Very proud of these guys, it's been impressive to say the least.

I don't think that happens with how the Colts played it in the same position. They tanked that game and then tanked in the playoffs.

It's like I told my friend today. You get to .500 FIRST before you can even think playoffs. We flub it against the Browns and the air will go out of the balloon really quick.
