We're MUCH more "in the hunt" for a playoff spot than people think

I don't think that happens with how the Colts played it in the same position. They tanked that game and then tanked in the playoffs.

Didn't they tank because Dungy's son had just committed suicide? I seam to recall that event ending a season for them.

For me I really dont even care so much about the playoff picture right now. Only because it's out of our hands and I dont think the guys are playing FOR that necessarily. The past month have just been our guys, playing their butts off for eachother and I'm loving it. To get focused on the playoffs too much will really bum me out if we get eliminated even if we keep winning.

Not trying to be negative, I would love to see us make it, but right now I'm so thrilled with how these guys have turned this season around I'm just enjoying it.

I agree. I'm thrilled with the improvement on defense and just want to see it continue. Although it could happen, making the playoffs seems like a bit of a pipe dream. And making or missing the playoffs won't really change how I feel about this team. We have some obvious needs but this D is starting to make it look like we could actually become relevant in a season or two.

GB will win the rest of their games. Losing Jennings doesn't mean much with the weapons they have.

I doubt Atlanta or Detroit loses out either. Just wanna finish at .500 or better.

We have Cleveland at home, Cincy on the road and Seattle at home to finish out the season. Cleveland and Seattle at home should both be W's and Cincy in Cincy, while their reccord looks good, keep in mind they haven't beaten a team with a winning record yet this season. If we win out and go 9-7 and the following happens (I think the outcomes below are very likely..we're in.

Detroit (9-7)
@oak - W
SD - L
@GB - L

Chicago (9-7)
sea - W
@GB - L
@min - W

Giants (9-7)
dal - W or L
was - W
@jets - W
dal - W or L

Dallas (9-7)
@NYG - W or L
@TB - W
phil - W
@NYG - W or L

We own the tie breaker against all 4 of these teams.

I can see Detroit losing @ Oak.......tough place to play. Who knows with the Giants......a win at the Jets is no guarentee for a team that needs a W too........and Dallas always has a Jekyll and Hyde performance in them, but they'll probably win the division if they win tonight.

It's great to be on a high after this impressive victory, but to address the thread title, no, no we are not. We have to win out AND have a whole lot of other things break our way. We have an outside shot at the playoffs--nothing more. Still a shot, yes, but only a long shot.

they just lost Greg Jennings likely for a couple weeks... believe me, that will cool their jets about going for a record instead of being healthy for what really matters.

Oh great. There goes the fantasy playoffs. :(

Head to head is first, but division record takes over in a 3 way tie unless one team beat both the others. That can't be the case in these scenerios. We beat the Cowboys and lost to the Giants while we didn't play the Lions or Bears.

Hmm, I think you're right. The playoff generator gives us the spot if we're both 9-7???? Can anyone shed some light on this?

That year Jim Caldwell was coach. I forgot they made it to the Super Bowl and lost to the Saints. So, maybe the Packers will tank the last game or two like the Colts did.

Lets beat Cleveland first.

This is what I was saying before the Niners game...but...now that we're in this position after the win, there are only 3 games left this season.

When do we start discussing playoff possibilities? :shrug:

Detroit is imploding (their dubious win vs. the Vikes not withstanding), Chicago just got Tebowed, so I'm sure their free-fall will continue, and the G-Men and the Cowgirls are too inconsistent (in my opinion) to sustain a legit playoff drive to finish the season. The NFC East division winner will be determined by default simply because someone has to win the division...just like it happened with the NFC West last year.

I like our playoff chances to be honest. :koolaid:

The Cards just need to keep playing ball like they have been the past 6 weeks.

Just my two cents worth. :)

We tanked the last game of 2009. Of course that was a really weird year where 3 games the last week matched teams that were playing each other in the playoffs the next week.

Settle down

thats alot of "If's"

Im mean sure, it could happen IF A,B,C,D,E,F and G happen, but only IF all those things happen. That concept could apply to any aspect of life.

Be cool, but dont get your hopes up. Cleveland is all that matters

At first I was pulling for Team Felon to beat the Giants. Then I realized that our only way (however slim) of edging out an NFC East team for a Wild Card spot would be to have the Giants win the division (since we lost to them anyway) and make Dallas the runner up (since we beat them earlier).
