The fact that we haven't signed anyone is a good sign. It's better than the FO waits and sees what other teams do so we can get another Tim Thomas bargin instead of just signing a scrub to fill the roster spot.

However, it is not the best sign the Suns are practicing what are essentially NBA leftovers today. I know this is a wise move to be prepared but it worries me the Suns are not going for something better. This is not the time for the Suns to settle for roster filler. I hope the Suns pick up at least one player that is proven.

Well, we will know by Friday because I'm pretty sure that's when our 2 weeks is up to fill our 13th roster spot.

How exactly we get Artest cheaply as you say JCSunsfan?

I think the Suns could send the Atlanta pick and their trade exception or something like that and it would match up.

Whether or not the Kings would do it though is another matter.

Here's a tidbit, if it hasn't already been posted, from a Paul Coro article dated February 19th, 2008 in the Arizona Republic. Anyway it shows how the Suns FO may be thinking.

http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/0219suns0219.html

• The Suns have to fill their vacant 13th roster spot by Friday. Today, they are working out wing players Linton Johnson, Bobby Jones, Ronald Dupree and Carlos Powell. They are also considering a trade, such as a second-round pick for a low-salary player, before Thursday's trade deadline or waiting to see if any player buyouts occur.

I hope the Suns get a veteran PG and also add a forward.

Artest is too expensive, not an option. If you think they are gonna do anything but add the player they are required to do, thats just wishful thinking.

How to get Artest without much money.

Trade a pick and 3 million cash for a second rounder in 2020.
Sac waives Artest. We pick him up for the minimum.

Everyone gets something. Most importantly, we don't pay 8 million in lux tax for him. Its really no different than what Dallas is doing with Stackhouse.

Everybody knows Psycho dreams of playing for the Knicks.

Suns Close To Filling Final Roster Spot

The Suns worked out four players Tuesday in their continuous search to find the thirteenth man to finalize their roster.
Carlos Powell, Bobby Jones, Ronald Dupree and Linton Johnson each participated in a shoot-around.
Phoenix has until Friday to fill the final roster spot, according to Suns GM Steve Kerr. Kerr said the Suns could come to a decision as soon as Wednesday, but will likely wait until after Thursday's trade deadline passes before finalizing their roster. The idea of filling the final roster spot via trade is strongly being considered, Kerr said.

I really like Kyle Lowry. He can play, but is on the wrong end of a numbers game.

It looks like we are getting Ron Artest for the T.E and Atl pick.

This is according to dbdynasty...he's a poster on RealGM.

Don't disregard him either. He has inside info from the league. He broke the Shaq for Marion and Banks a week before the mainstream media found out about it.

Artest staying...for now

12:22 p.m.
The Spurs may be nearing a deal for Artest, although it's also believed Denver may finally be willing to give up Linas Kleiza. Of course, my flight from Portland to Sacramento is at this very moment, so we'll see where things stand when I land.
(10:40 a.m.):
Add San Antonio to the list of teams that will try to steal Ron Artest.
I don't see Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie biting, but I'm told that the Spurs will (or maybe have) offer the expiring contracts of Francisco Elson and Brent Barry (combined $8.54 million) for Artest. A draft pick would likely be available, too, but this would seem to be yet another low-ball offer as the Kings see it. But if it did happen and Ron was united with the team he demolished in the playoffs two years ago? Oooweee. The rich would be filthy rich...
***
(8:24 a.m.)
Things change quickly when the trade deadline is fast approaching, but the consensus from this morning is that Ron Artest isn't going anywhere.
According to several league sources, the Kings had recent talks with Denver and Houston pertaining to the small forward. And for now, the discussions have left both teams leaning against making a move for Artest. The formula is the same in both scenarios, with the Kings looking for a combination of expiring contracts, draft picks and - insert snag here - young talent.
And while it's been well chronicled that the Nuggets are reluctant to give up third-year small forward Linas Kleiza, it appears the Rockets don't want to hand over their young talent either. Rookie point guard Aaron Brooks is a player the Kings wanted to draft and would love to trade for, but Houston is - for the moment - unwilling to include him on any deal. There was a call made to the Rockets weeks ago, and they only seem to have returned it in the last week. That's what led to this speculation on my part, but then the power of success came into play.
Houston has won 18 of its last 21 games, leading the Rockets to deduce that change just isn't necessary. The same goes for the Nuggets, who broke Boston's 16-game undefeated streak against Western Conference last night and have won seven of nine games.
For all the talk of where coach George Karl and vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien are on dealing for Artest (Warkentien for, Karl against), the final word from the Mile High City may come from owner Stan Kroenke. He was at the Pepsi Center last night, and is said to have walked away without any inclination to acquire Artest if it meant giving up Kleiza.
It should be noted that Warkentien, more than all the others, isn't averse to putting together a cast of characters dripping with controversy. This is the same guy who built the infamous "Jail Blazers" teams of the 1990s, and he came up alongside famed and equally-infamous UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian. It's the overlooked fact among those people who think it'd be insane to couple Artest with Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony. For now, though, Artest doesn't appear on his way toward a new situation of any kind. - Sam Amick

The Suns are paying $11 million to rent Artest for four months? I don't think so.

He may be our best chance at helping us to the 'ship THIS year with the team we have. We need another 2/3 that can "D" up, shoot the 3 with consistnacy and help take pressure off of Nash, Amare and Shaq. Artest is a mental case, but with Shaq and Nash here, and a major chance at the rings, I think he'll keep a level head. If it takes $11 million to help get us the ring, and Sarver is willing to open his wallet, are you really gonna complain?

Plus most Suns fans have been pining for Artest for awhile now, quite awhile before the Shaq trade, and now we're gonna bitch about it if it happens. Come on now.

Maybe a deal like ATL+TE for Artest+3mil, since they're saving quite a bit of money with this deal.

Would Hill move to the bench or would Artest be ok with being the 7th man? Maybe he can light a fire under Diaw since it's his playtime that would be dropped.

But I dont see any holes in this lineup other than his mental issues.

Nash/DJ
Bell/Barbosa
Hill/Artest
Amare/Diaw
Shaq/Skinner

Artest can slide to the 4 when shaq is out and amare is at the 5.

Hey,i'm the first one to say WTF and bring in Artest. He's exactly what we need on the floor IMO. Also, with guys like Shaq,Nash, Hill etc the leaders of this team, who better to keep Ron Ron in check?
The Artest sweepstakes are clearly involving Denver, S.A., & N.Y.
I just don't see the SUNS brass taking that big of a gamble(especially since we haven't seen the impact & dynamics of the SHAQ trade yet).
