How to get Artest without much money.

Trade a pick and 3 million cash for a second rounder in 2020.
Sac waives Artest. We pick him up for the minimum.

Everyone gets something. Most importantly, we don't pay 8 million in lux tax for him. Its really no different than what Dallas is doing with Stackhouse.

The only flaw is that if Sac waives Artest then he gets to choose where he ends up and more importantly, at what price.

Pietrus is a more athletic Bowen with slightly lesser defense and shooting %s but more slashing and finishing in traffic.

Or at least that's what he is headed too if he removed his head from his ass. You cant be an 8th man on a team and be as vocal as him about trade demands. Didnt he try the free agent market and get the shaft last summer?

I think that anybody signed after the trading deadline wouldn't count to LT. So, if Artest gets waived after a buyout, we could offer him the pro-rated MLE without paying additional tax on it. Or anybody for that matter, say Devean George, Stackhouse, as long as they get waived before the deadline.

PS: I just read that Blazers are shopping Jack. Could we do a LB for Webster/Jack trade? With Roy and Outlaw at 2/3, they are not gonna pay Webster big money to come off the bench. Jack is a much better defender on 1, and Webster is the type of athletic wing player we desire.

I won't check, but I'm almost sure you're wrong, since payrolls used for luxury tax purposes are team salaries on the day of the last regular season game, IIRC.

It doesn't work under the cap, unfortunately.

This idea isn't new with me. It came from another thread. Let's ride to the Mavs rescue and save their season.

Deavon George and a future 1st for future considerations.

They could then finish their Kidd trade (which I like for us).

George would be the type of wing player we are looking for too.

George will probably decline every trade, since his Bird rights will disappear if he agrees to move.

The problem is the early Bird right is not something the player can exercize. It's up to the team who owns this right, Mavs in this case. If he could convince the Suns with his play, he might get a better deal with us next year without EB anyway.

LUCKY NO. 13
The Suns have to add a 13th player to their roster by Feb. 22 - a day after the trade deadline. There are still indications the Suns are looking to make a minor trade to obtain perimeter defensive help, but they will also bring in four free agents for a workout on Tuesday.
The players coming to Phoenix are Linton Johnson, a 6-foot-8 forward with four years of NBA experience, including 54 games with New Orleans/Oklahoma City last season; Ronald Dupree, a 6-7 athletic swingman out of LSU, who played 19 games with the Detroit Pistons last year; Bobby Jones, a 6-7 guard who began the season with Denver and had two 10-day stints with Memphis earlier this season; and Carlos Powell, a 6-7 leaper from South Carolina, who is averaging 22.3 points and 6.3 rebounds with the Dakota Wizards of the NBADL.

What about Antoine Wright? NJ was going to trade him to DAL and I believe he is an expiring contract.

cool, looks like we're getting the ball rolling. any one of those guys would satisfy me though i would prefer not to have powell. he's an upgraded gerald green IMO. if we have time for them to play, any of the other 3 would be best. sit DJ back down please.

I wonder why they didn't bring in Dickens. He's better than Powell defensively and 3PT wise. Pretty much the same everywhere else offensively though.

I wanted the Suns to shoot higher. There are reasons why these players are not on NBA rosters. The Suns have a legit shot at a Championship. This is no time to go cheap.

:yeahthat: They may be shooting higher than these guys they're bringing in (trade talks etc...)but don't want to get caught without option's if plan's A,B & C go awry.

I wonder if the Suns would consider bringing in two players which they have room to do. Like one of NBADL type players at SF and a role playing backup PG or in reverse order? It shouldn't cost that much more.

Dantay Jones got waived by Kings to make room for the Atl trade. He always played big against the Suns and fits the bill of athletic wing. Is he good 3pt shooter? He might be better than all the other.

I wouldn't say no, but I'm hoping for another player that might have more impact.

I wonder if Keith Bogans could be had from the Magic for a reasonable price. He's in the last year of a $2.4million contract.
I don't know what we have left in terms of draft picks going forward(not much). Not sure if he's even being shopped.
His role/minutes have diminished as of late. He can stick the 3 ball & is a gritty defender. I've seen a few Magic games & i like what i've seen from him defensively. Reminds me of a little of B.Bowen at times. Then again, there may be good reason he's not playing much after being a starter earlier in the season. Dunno.

Broken record again here. We can get Artest. We can do it cheaply. Wing defense is our need. This is a championship run. Just do it.

The fact that we haven't signed anyone is a good sign. It's better than the FO waits and sees what other teams do so we can get another Tim Thomas bargin instead of just signing a scrub to fill the roster spot.
