We are very compatable. I agree. ;)

you read it?

i actually read part of it. i'm very odd in that i will randomly pick things that i want to teach myself. around this time last year i thought it would be cool to learn programming stuff. i bought a bunch of books and dove in, but i abandoned it after a while. i did the same thing with faust when i bought the complete set (the books were bound together, but really cool, old hardbacks) at a flea market. when i got home and opened them, i realized they were in the original german. i tried to learn the german as i read, but that only lasted a few days.

I'm reading "Wind Up Bird Chronicle" now. I like it so far.

Good book, but weird.

I am almost done with "Kafka on the Shore" by Murakami also.

I have less than 70 pages to go and it's starting to get into the surreal introspective that flourished throughout "WUBC".

Yeah, I'm enjoying it so much, that I might put it down for a couple of weeks. That sounds strange, but th wife and I are taking a weekend away to a spa/mountain retreat in a couple of weeks, and I don't want to start a new book up there that I may not like.

I read one other one by Murakami, but the name is excaping me at the moment. It's probably listed in this thread somewhere. anyway, I liked that one a lot, too.

Have you read?:

A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
The Killer Inside Me, Jim Thompson (nior)
Life of Pi, Yann Martel
The Emperor of Scent: A Story of Obsession, Perfume, and the Last Mystery of the Senses, Chandler Burr (non-fiction, but reads like a novel)

I tried to give a sampling of books I've enjoyed from different genres.

Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy

Noam Chomsky

Chomsky is pretty liberal but he makes some great points

I just ordered "The Prestige." Looks like a good movie, so the book will probably be great.
