seriously, though, i gave krep the hard sell on this book almost a year ago. krep, did you read it?
Mrs. Popper is not a nice woman. At the end of the book, when Mr. Popper goes to the Antarctic/Arctic (whatever) to live with his Penguins....Mrs Popper is just kind of like, "Whatever, cool, now I won't have to clean up after you anymore."

Ah, reminds me of the married life.

Well, in my defense I was trying to do the right thing.

My dad was drunk, and he was trying to carry a big Pinball Machine in....and my mom was helping him much and he was "hurting his back."

So he started cussing at her and yelling at her.

My brother, "Why is Santa cussing Mom out??"

Me, "Brother, I have to tell you something, Dad is Santa."

My brother, "Whoa, deep, is that why he is at work so much??"

Me, "Sigh. No, there is no Santa."

Angels and Demons, Dan Brown

I picked it up the same day that the Cardinals went into conclave--the extact event during which the book takes place. Weird coincidence; I didn't know that about the book going in.

I'm about 3/4 done. It's really good!

I just started this one. I'm about 1/4 done. It's very hard to put down.

I just finished Angels & Demons. Great book, I can’t wait for the movie. I just started Digital Fortress, Dan Browns first novel.

Amazon.com
In most thrillers, "hardware" consists of big guns, airplanes, military vehicles, and weapons that make things explode. Dan Brown has written a thriller for those of us who like our hardware with disc drives and who rate our heroes by big brainpower rather than big firepower. It's an Internet user's spy novel where the good guys and bad guys struggle over secrets somewhat more intellectual than just where the secret formula is hidden--they have to gain understanding of what the secret formula actually is.
In this case, the secret formula is a new means of encryption, capable of changing the balance of international power. Part of the fun is that the book takes the reader along into an understanding of encryption technologies. You'll find yourself better understanding the political battles over such real-life technologies as the Clipper Chip and PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) software even though the book looks at the issues through the eyes of fiction.

Although there's enough globehopping in this book for James Bond, the real battleground is cyberspace, because that's where the "bomb" (or rather, the new encryption algorithm) will explode. Yes, there are a few flaws in the plot if you look too closely, but the cleverness and the sheer fun of it all more than make up for them. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and a lot of high, gee-whiz-level information about encryption, code breaking, and the role they play in international politics. Set aside the whole afternoon and evening for it and have finger food on hand for supper--you may want to read this one straight through.

I'm currently reading "The Prestige." It's pretty good. I heard the movie was very good, so I wanted to read the book first.

Checking into this thread late:

Since July, I have read all 4 Dan Brown books, I've started "Holy Blood, Holy Grail", I've finished Orwell's "Animal Farm" and I am currently working on Orwell's "1984". I could swear I'm forgetting a book or two in there....

Green Eggs and Ham is long, but very good.

Man, what a twist too!

The guy ends up liking the green eggs and ham!!! He even thanks Sam I am for getting him to try them.

What an awakening, spiritual journey. Two thumbs up, far better than One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish though that is good as well.

I just picked up a copy of DBC Pierre's novel, Vernon God Little, and will probably start reading it in a couple of weeks.

I just finished Blind Side by Michael Lewis (Liars Poker, Moneyball, etc...)

Pretty amazing story 30% about the importance of the rise of the left tackle position in the NFL but more about 70% of the story of current sophomore Ole Miss tackle Michael Oher.

Great story of how a rich white family took in an incredibly disadvantaged black teen from a broken life in the projects and gave him a new chance.

Great read.
