Maybe it's just me - but I'm more than a little surprised to see the number of safeties chosen before Mays... Is anyone shocked??

Like Billick was saying the guy stands out in workouts but then when teams watch tape they come away unimpressed.

I wonder if the guy could be a LB for some team.

I'm not. FWIW though, for all the talk about his lack of playmaking----his stat lines in college were earily similar to a certain #24 last time I checked.

His playmaking ability is super questionable, but his physical tools make him a great second round pick up. I have no idea why the Browns just picked that guy over him and Chad Jones.

If he is available when the Cards pick it would be nice to take him. Take BPA over needs any day ..

I figured somebody would have gambled on his physical ability by now, but I guess he's in that Dorin Dickerson category of an athlete w/o a position.

Amazing... Mt. Cody dropping like a boulder! Clausen and McCoy must be soooo bummed out.... And Kindle has major knee issues. What a bizarre draft this has been.

Taylor is a Singletary type player, very physical, big hitter. Needs to work on coverage and needs to learn when you have a chance to play the ball play it, don't always go for the knockout. But I do know our Wr's will be getting drilled by that kid over the middle for years, wish he hadn't gone in our conference.

I've watched many USC games and wasn't really impressed. He's a linebacker playing safety. Not as big as Brian Urlacher, more like an Adam Archuleta but slower. Not in the same league as Adrian Wilson in the NFL but not in the same league.

I don't like what mays had to say about pete carroll. not a classy thing to do especially after playing for a great coach like carroll. hopefully he will realize his emotions got the best of him. just yesterday I heard him talking about how he wanted to play for seattle and pete carroll.

You haven't watched nothing. Stop lying. Taylor Mays ran a 4.35 and have ran down Javid Best before. Dude will be a strong safety, a top 5 one that is.

What makes you think he'll be a top five safety other than blind homerism? He has no football skills other than speed. He has no football knowledge other than how to throw a shoulder. He has no coverage ability. He has bust written all over him. You haven't watched him, otherwise you'd know how much he sucks. You don't just go from being a top 10 prospect in 2009 to drafted 49th in 2010.

That is the first time I've heard that Taylor Mays sucks. You are a hater at his finest, I tell you. If you had watched USC, like I did, you would know that Mays was the hardest working player on that team. He's a character guy whose interest is only football. The 49ers will put him in a position to succeed, believe that.

As far as, him stepping in right away. We don't need that. We need him to sit back and learn. Frankly, the division is ours with or without our top draft picks. Your team was horrible against us with Warner. Now without him, it will be more of a smackdown. Until your soft team learn how to play physical, you are not a threat. As of this point, I see the Seahawks and Rams as more competitive than the Cards. Those team actually have QBs to distribute the ball while Leinart is terrible.

Honestly, how difficult was english for you to master?

Please post a pic this summer of your high school diploma.

It will be a proud moment for you that we all will cherish.

Wasn't it a 4.43 ?
Nevertheless straight line speed is just that, straight line speed. Watch the early USC games of last season USC are the only college football team I regularly watch since I'm from the westside. He makes the tackles because he was a SS which is what you are suppose to do. Most of his tackles were statistical tackles or tackles from behind where he was in the wrong position to cover his man so he had to run and tackle them. Coverage and agility is average at best not that impressive.
His stock fell because he just didn't do anything special.

He was highly touted in 2008 because he had a great defensive team and secondary. So all he had to do was move closer to the box and become a ball hawk.

In 2009 Carroll wanted him to have more of a free safety role because the secondary took big hit with the lost of most of their starters. That's when all hell broke loose. He can't cover and the USC defensive stats of 2009 showed it! The senior bowl proved it.

If he is to succeed in the NFL he will have to be a in the box safety or 8th man in the box. Leave him to cover solo on a NFL caliber receiver and he will get burned.

Typical un-educated SF fan. He's fast so he must be good. They still can't believe Renaldo Nehemia didn't make it.

Umm...Aren't good strong safeties meant to actually know how to tackle? *shrugs* I'd put Taylor Mays to the equivalent of that fast safety who ran a 4.3 that Al Davis drafted last year in the 2nd. All potential and nothing special when you put on the game film. If Mays went to a smaller school, he wouldn't even be sniffing the end of the 4th.

LOl we're uneducated? go check the income and literacy level of the Bay Area. Maybe you should speak about yourself. I was talking about football and you had to resort to low blows in order to feel good about yourself. Sounds pretty pathetic to me.

Double negative.

He's a character guy whose interest is only football.
Bad structure. "He's a character guy who is only interested in football".

As far as, him stepping in right away. We don't need that.
Comma splicing, and a bit of a fragment. "As far as him stepping in right away, we don't need that".

Until your soft team learn how to play physical, you are not a threat.
Should be "learns".

That's just two posts.

Slower than Archuleta? You might want to check his 40 times.

Slower not meaning his 40 times but he looks slow. Meaning moving other than forward. Backpedal, ability to change directions and movements look really bad. Like "whoops the guy I'm suppose to cover already caught the ball and is behind me" kind of speed. Well his 40 times will give him catchup speed though. I think he is a linebacker though. He can tackle going forwards.

Quite frankly, I was starting to hope we'd draft him in the 2nd round to play WILB. Turns out we drafted his little brother instead.

I'm ignoring your blatant disregard for proper grammar to focus on what I think is the base of your argument.

First off.....are you serious?? The Rams, 49ers and Seahawks more competitive than us? I must have amnesia. I thought the Cardinals won the division two seasons in a row.

....Wait a second. You said the RAMS are more competitive than us? Way to be objective....

And to say Leinart is terrible is a huge indictment on Alex Smith, who is much worse. Even with the 49ers tailoring their entire offense to suit his style, he couldn't succeed. This was also at the expense of your best offensive threat: Frank Gore. The sooner you accept that Leinart will emerge as one of the better QBs in the NFC, the easier it will be for you to come to grips with another bride's maid season.

Moreover, if you think we aren't any more competitive than the Rams, go troll their board. You are still intimidated by us; otherwise, you wouldn't be deflecting your blatantly obvious insecurities on us. Recall that our coach can actually motivate his players without dropping his shorts.
