thanks for chiming in 3 weeks later, its still wait and see for Jackson. If you don't think that Ike Davis would be an improvement with 3x the power and 10x the DEFENSE Jackson brings then....whatever. Jackson has had a good couple of weeks but is still a liability at 1st and is better suited as a DH.

Is your statement supposed to get less crazy with time or just more irrelevant?

Yes, 3x and 10x.....good couple of weeks.... these certainly go to make your point sound more thought out and rational.

As Mao said, you seem more interested in getting to see Sun Devils in the majors than seeing the professional team field the best players. In fact, it's a pointless discussion cause any player in college at this time won't see the majors for at least a couple of years. By that time Jackson will be a FA and his place on the team could be completely different.

So really, is your post just to pimp Sun Devils and diss a player you mistakenly perceive as weak?

I was against Conor early in his career and was arguing in favor of Tracy, but to still not think that Jackson is capable of being our 1B of the future just seems foolish. He has probably been our best hitter so far this year and his defense has been much better than before.

As for Tracy, this should not be a problem at all unless Melvin reduces Reynolds' or Jackson's playing time by too much. The good thing about Tracy is that he can play multiple positions, is a left batter that we need and he can hit for a pretty good average. A better average than most of our hitters. Reynolds, Jackson and all three outfielders will need to rest once in a while so he'll get his opportunities without taking too many from Salazar. The young guys will go through slumps so it'll be nice to have a capable hitter to sub in for them as they are trying to figure things out.

He's also a better pinch-hitter than Burke and will be useful in games such as the one on Saturday so we don't have pitchers pinch-hitting.

I think Tracy will fill in for Conor once in awhile and also for Reynolds too. Tracy can do the same job that Clark did last year. He will also be a better option as a pinch hitter than Burke.

Montero and Salazar are better PH's at this point than Tracy. All Tracy is is a once a week fill in at 1B or 3B or a bat late in the game. He shouldn't be taking at PH opportunites away from Salazar or Montero

That's the way I see it right now too. In 10 days? Who knows.

They aren't going to use Montero as a pinch hitter many times because he will be the only other catcher on the team when Tracy is activated. I say that because I would assume Hammock will be the odd guy out.

Salazar, yes. Montero, not really.... Tracy is still a good hitter. The microfracture isn't a big deal in baseball unless you really relied on your speed for production. Tracy is still capable of being a near .300 batter. It'll take a while for him to get back, but he's not going to drop off enough so that he's worse than Montero, a .224 hitter last year who also never has shown the ability to get extra-base hits like Tracy can.

Montero will be fine when he gets predictable, steady playing time and enough at bats. He had plenty of power in the Minors and is a very hard worker.

With Snyder here that won't happen. Montero won't even play in half the games again this season. So again, as a pinch hitter Tracy is still better and not just by a little bit.

Its a small sample size (21 AB), but Montero is a .333 hitter in career pinch hit situations. Almost makes it worth having Hammock on the team as a third catcher.
