Deal! :)

As long as it's at your place.

/afraid that the fact I only like you for your TV is becoming transparent....

It's ok. I already know you only like me for my TV.

i think what hits me the hardest about Arlington Road, versus say Silence, is that it REALLY sucks that the bad guys win in the end. With Silence, at least Lector's helped Clarice catch a serial killer and he's is such an unbelievably delicious character, that you WANT to see him find the doctor and eat him at the end. With Arlington Road, there's just nothing you're happy about. The guy's not only dead but he's blamed for the attack, his girlfriend's dead, his kid is going to be raised by wack jobs, and the terrorists get to keep on blowing stuff up. I mean THAT IS BLEAK!

I guess it's the difference for watching a bad guy who's a bad ass winning, versus a bad guy who's just plain evil with no redeeming qualities winning.

True.

John Wayne dying in The Cowboys and The Shootist might qualify.

That's exactly what is so great about the ending. Hollywood is so obsessed with watching the bad guy fail. The bad guy doesn't always fail. In fact, they succeed more than fail in real life.

Hopefully Linderbee doesn't read this and possibly spoil it for her.

Actually, I have shown MUCH restraint. I got about 4 words into whoever's post & scrolled back up immediately. Then I saw Mulli say something about John Wayne dying (although it seemed as though he was drawing a parallel) and I scrolled down. Then I saw my name in your post & only read that sentence. I even managed to delete the rest of your post so that if there's anything there, I didn't see it.

spoiler tags, people!!! :)

oh, believe me, I thought the ending was great. I actually think the whole movie is pretty damn good. Just the party scene alone the Bridges walks into is just scarily surreal, especially when they briefly cut to what it looks like from the outside as Bridges and Robbins appear to be drunken fools together. Just a very, very chilling movie.

I saw American History X in this thread - I don't think anyone "won" in that movie - which is an all time favorite of mine

I thought Evil won because the evil of Edward Norton's character was the driving factor the ending the movie. I did not mean one evil character the evil itself won with revenge.

Every Nightmare on Elm Street has Freddy winning in the final scene, and Empire Strikes back evil wins, although it probably doesnt count considering its onbly part 5 in a 6 part series.

Fine. I'll watch O Brother... with you, if you watch Arlington Road with me.
One down, one to go!

Great movie. I think I might have seen at least some of it before...I'm really not sure. Parts of it looked really familiar & parts had no familiarity at all. The name of this thread alone, though, was a bit of a spoiler, so that kinda sucked. I really enjoyed it, though. I love Tim Robbins & Jeff Bridges, so that just made it that much better.
