His defense has slipped
FWIW- I completely agree with this statement, also he calls a great game. He is a better all around catcher than Montero. I'm not worried at all about his BA. It'll come around.
There were one or two wild pitches that I thought were pass balls. His pitch selection on some of the Dodger hitters was bizzare. Why haven't we walked Manny when first base is open. How about getting baited into throwing to second and letting the guy get to third for the Dodgers and subsequently scoring on a ground ball? Snyder's offense sucks and I'd rather take a chance on Montero because he is a batting threat.
I think they ought to say Young is injured and send him on a rehab assignment to the minor leagues to get his confidence back. Right now he cannot even make enough contact to hit a solid foul ball.
This team would play with more emotion under Hale or Gibson but they are not in charge. Melvin is in a coma and the fact our players are unable to bunt or play effective situational baseball is his fault and responsibility. What did you learn in little league? When you have 2 strikes you protect the plate at all costs and put the ball in play. You don't take called third strikes, you expand the strike zone and make contact.
These guys fail to do basic **** every game and the manager must provide a consequence. Send someone down and bring up the hot players. Frankly I'd tell Tony Clark thanks for the memories but you are a coach now and get someone else on the roster. I'd approach Eric Byrnes agent about a buyout of his contract and then release him or ask for a six pack of beer. Start playing the guys that are productive. Why not package DD and Tracy to see if we can get a proven power hitter. They are not going to sign DD next year anyhow so why not. Throw in Byrnes and offer to pay some of his contract.
Chase will be empty this summer if they don't do something.
