What would have you tried to do differently if you were the Cards?

I really thought we did well in this draft and I give us a B. There are a few things I might have done differently though...

One thing I would have looked at is moving down from the three spot to maybe six, seven and picked up Roy Williams and maybe a second and possibly even a third too. I like Fitz overall better but Williams does seem like he could strech the field better for us and I feel would be better fit for our team if he stays healthy and reaches his so called "potential" I know he would have been more of a risk but for the picks we could have gotten for him I think he would have been worth it. If he turns out as good as some people think he can be, he'll stretch the whole field and make our whole offense better on many levels.

There was a lot of talent in this draft and those extra pics could have been really valuable if we could have gotten them.

Another thing I would have tried to do is trade up to get Stephen Jackson. The Bengals agreed to move down two spots in the first for a low fourth, #123. They picked up a player, RB Perry, that they could have gotten at our pick that was seven picks lower than where they picked in the first. Who here thinks that Perry wouldn't have been there at our pick with Jones still on the board? I would have at least tried to have offered our second and fourth and seen if they would bite. They would have gotten the #100th instead of the 123th pick and they would have come out better. I would have probably thrown in something else to move up to that pick although I don't see why we would have had to.

I would have also probably taken Poole. I know he has some character problems but in the fourth I still think he was a steal. Look what he did in college. I remember watching some highlights of his and he looked really good to me. A player in the fourth more often then not is a backup player, I think Poole as worth a shot...

With the trade down to get Roy Williams, maybe pick up a second, trade the 2 #2s to SF and take Jackson RB. WOW. Locking onto Fitz didn't allow this. In this scenario that cost the Cards another #1 impact player

There is no way SF would trade with us. They nixed the trade for us to get Gamble.

First of all, last year I thought we could be in a position to draft Roy Williams this year. So I'm bias toward Roy.

I remember watching the highlights of Boldin after we picked him last year. I turned to my wife and said this guy is going to be a player in the NFL.

I had not seen Fitz play or any highlights until after we picked him. After watching the highlights, I thought "I've never seen anyone with hands like him." Fitz was a good pick. We needed the OL picks.

I like the draft, we only reached for one player. In drafts past, just about everyone was a reach.

Did you see what I wrote? :D It only took a low fourth and a low first to get in position to get Stephen Jackson any Cinci took the guy they would have gotten with our one second anyways. In reality it should have taken only one fourth to pry away Jackson. The most would be a third.... We would have jumped up to get Jackson before SF could...

While I respect Denny's adherence to the Best Athlete principle and give him an "A" for near-perfect implimentation, I believe in adding at least a little more weight to the need-factor.

I don't think we would have lost much value by selecting Poole over Stepanovich in the fourth round.

But in terms of pure value, you have to like the Stepanovich pick and apparently Bob Wylie really likes the kid, his blue collar personae and his versatility.

He wont haunt me at all.

He wont see the field much this year unless Faulk is injured and he still has a long way to go to be a good 3rd down back (catching and blocking)
