I read this thread and laugh at guys complaining talking about we have holes in defense especially linebacker. Just who exactly was left. I'm sorry please tell me all these great linebackers that are just blowing up the league we passed on.

How about Kwon Alexander?

I'd have preferred Stephone Anthony out of Clemson. Not only has he stepped right in as a starter, but the Saints have him calling their defense.

I can see Anthony maybe a late first rounder

But Alexander as a late first rounder come on now. He wasn't on anyone's radar as a first round pick he went in the 4th

Could have had both. You asked for linebackers from the draft who are making an impact.

Shaq Thompson might be Daryl Washington with his head screwed on straight. A nickel package of Thompson and Bucannon would be fierce.

Stephone Anthony...
Shaq Thonpson...(who was taken literally right after us)
Eric Kendrick isn't lighting the world on fire but he's doing decent from what I'm hearing.

We passed on ALL 3.

To be fair, we passed on Tom Brady six times for Raynoch Thompson, Darwin Walker, David Barrett, Mao Tosi, Jay Tant and Jabari Issa.

OMG! what a draft that was. It's enough to make you puke in your cereal.

The talk on Kendrick here in Minnesota wasn't too good coming out of preseason but now they have him leading the nickel package which with the teams they have played this year has been about 50% of the time.

Yep I was pimping Anthony a month before the draft & loved Kendricks too, even more after we lost out on Dupree & the Mizzo pass rusher.

Most people fail to realize most of these rookies won't be huge contributors in year 1 anyway.

BUMP for Hump... can we track his progress over the course of his actual "Rookie" season..?

So far, in Preseason, Hump has looked solid but not spectacular. His footwork has certainly improved based on our RBs ability to find holes in the right side (could also be a function of him working with Mathis). Pass protection still seems iffy. Got knocked around a few times. He probably doesn't have the name "knee deep" anymore... maybe "ankle deep"? Sorry, I tried...

What's your assessment so far from preseason, heading into Game 1?

A silver lining to last night's game is that Hump looked great! Relatively speaking, I didn't see many missed assignments. The only hiccup is when Mathis went out, it shook his concentration/vibe a little.

HUGE step to our success if he can shore up the right side. Did he blow any assignments that I missed...? Need to get the replay of the crazy run by Johnson, where that hodgepodge on the right side was created by Hump and a good seal out by Gresham.

That's a bit of an overstatement. He looked like Bobbie Massie.

I'd like to see the PFF rankings when they come out after week 1. Somewhat glad he didn't have to be thrown in the fire last year. The development is coming along, and his passion seems to be there. You can even make the argument that expectations are somewhat lower for him this year versus last (for a first rd rookie to come in and immediately make an impact last year).

I'm still not that high on the guy, but he looked solid last night.

Are you expecting him to be the 2nd coming of Walter Jones?

I wouldn't say "great"

He played respectably and it inspires optimism going forward. Good for him.

He played a heckuva lot better in his first game than Massie did.
