I guess my point was missed. Yes, like most owners he had to watch his bottom line. And like some of the worst owners this league has seen (Sterling, Dolan and Ranadive for example) he made some terrible financial decisions, often at the worst time. But for most of his time in Phoenix we were nowhere near the bottom in player salaries. And my point wasn't that money wasn't a problem, it's just that the man himself was an embarrassment to the organization and he micro-managed even though he was wholly unsuited to do so. That's why we despised him.
And Joe Johnson left because he didn't want to be the 3rd or 4th best player on the Suns and he wanted to go back to the South. Sarver was willing to pay him what he asked, Joe asked him not to match. Yes, we could and should have met his agent's demands before his last season with us but I worry about a player like that.
