He’s not a “free-agent”. Joe is a “restricted-free agent”. Meaning that if he did sign with another team, the Suns could match. In numerous interviews both the Suns management and Joe himself have indicated that they and he would like him to remain with the franchise. The odds of him going somewhere else are slim to none.

The better question is 'how much will it cost the signs to re-sign JJ for next year' and what other team (s) will drive up the market on the Suns?

Why do we even have this thread?

Why would JJ want to leave? I mean..did he mention about it somewhere?

Why is Dallas in the running? Dallas has a 90 million payroll?

Cuban's up for signing anyone. (Sign and Trade)

That would mean the Suns agree with it and outside of Nowitzki, I don't see a player on that roster, I'd rather have than Joe Johnson?

Yeah. Unfortunately a sign and trade requires the participation of 3 parties (Suns, Mavs and Joe would all have to be willing participants). Just for fun, assume the Suns decided that they didn’t want Joe, that Joe decided that he would rather play for the Mavs over every other team in the NBA including the Suns and that the Mavs desperately wanted Joe and were willing to give up equal value for a sign and trade (which of course is completely ludicrous). Exactly who on the Mavs would be of value to this Suns team for Joe Johnson, a potential young superstar in the making? I can’t think of a single player that would make this Suns team better that it is with Joe. Because this is just for fun, which Mavs player would you rather have on this Suns team over Joe Johnson?

Josh Howard would be the only possibility I'd even think to consider.

Josh Howard is still on Rookie scale, so the Suns would have-to take back a lot of salary to make that Trade and IMO I'd rather have Johnson over Howard...

I know, I was referring to talent vs. talent.

Yep, and yet I don’t think Josh Howard has half the talent or potential of Joe Johnson. Joe Johnson has the potential to be one of the best “all-around” talents in the game (I said one of the best not the best). If you really think about it, Joe is a lot like Lebron with a better 3 point shot. Is there any question Joe wouldn’t average huge numbers as a first option rather than the 4th that he is?

We don't need Josh Howard. We need a guy who can be Nash's backup PG and play awesome defense when we need it.

I do like Howard but he is not the player we need right now.

You obviously have no idea how restricted free agency works. From the two threads that you have started, I conclude that you are a bitter, clueless Mavericks fan.

I think the playoffs are proving that Joe Johnson is more important to this team than Q. Joe is going nowhere.

I like Joe Johnson, but that is borderline ridiculous. The reason he is able to shoot such a high percentage is that he has at least three teammates who are bigger offensive threats. I think there's no way he would succeed as a #1 option.

And by the way, I think Josh Howard is going to be very good. I see him giving Marion a run for his money in a couple of years.

OMG - are you serious? Joe Johnson is a lot like Lebron James? He's not even close to being as explosive nor the phsyical force Lebron is.

I don’t think the comparison is too absurd. How many players have that type of “all-around” talent? Dead eye shooting, great passing skills, rebounding, defense, ability to take his man off the dribble? I mean how many players have that type of talent? Lebron, Kobe, Ray Allen? Who is that solid at every facet of the game?

I should have been more clear when I said “ONE OF THE BEST” not “THE BEST” all around talents. And I should have said Lebron-esque type all-around game, instead of like Lebron. Gentleman, sorry for the misunderstanding. Yikes, bite my head-off please. But the guy could easily be a 20-5-5 player next year and still continue to improve. There is no question that the guy has all world talent.

The only place I could see JJ going is Cleveland to play with LeBron. But I find that scenario doubtful even though I think if JJ came to the Suns and asked them not to match an offer sheet BC and Sarver would reluctantly agree. In other words, JJ will more than likely be a Sun.
