Which FAs should Cards go after

I would love Wes Welker or Reggie Wayne - either would help attract Manning and wouldn't cost us a draft choice. I don't think it is wise to expect to get a WR in the later rounds of the draft who could start and is better than what we have already.

We should try and get a starting #2 WR and a better starting OT to play either L or R side. Then use the draft to upgrade the rest of our OL. DeCastro would be a giant step in the right direction. As much as we need help with the OL, there is just no reason to pass this future HofFer by. Our running game would take a big shot in the arm with him and it might really motivate our current OGs to get there career going better through the competition.

We need to use all of our picks on our offenive line, a pass rusher at DE or OLB, and adding depth at other positions, ie. CB, DT, ILB.

in terms of a #2 WR, Manningham is at the top of my list. I'd love Desean Jackson, but Manningham is more realistic, would be cheaper, and would be much better in the locker room (given Jackson's crap he pulled lately)

And what other "tough decisions" flying beneath our radar may add to our list of potential FA's)?

26. Curtis Lofton LB, Atlanta Falcons: He's a plug linebacker who had a tendency to get lost in pass coverage at times. He's good against the run but with it being a passing league, is the value there? He turns 26 in June.


34. Pierre Garcon, WR, Indianapolis Colts: He caught a career-high 70 passes last season without good quarterback play. He can fly, which will make him attractive to other teams. He turns 26 in August.

37. Stephen Tulloch, MLB, Detroit Lions: On a one-year deal, he had 111 tackles and two picks for the Lions. He just turned 27, so age isn't an issue. He's a steady player.

38. Jason Jones, DT-DE, Tennessee Titans: He has flashed at times in his four seasons with the Titans, but he should be doing more. Has played both inside and outside for the Titans. He turns 26 in May, so he has time to become a really good player.

47. Jerome Simpson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals: He is a receiver who can fly. That would make him a hot commodity, but he has a legal issue hanging over his head. He just turned 26 earlier this month.



off that top 50, these would be my realistic targets.

Mario is too expensive along with a few others.

25. Anthony Spencer, OLB, Dallas Cowboys: In a league desperate for pass-rush help, he will get action on the market, even though his six-sack total was a disappointment last season. He just turned 28 in January.

29. Ben Grubbs, G, Baltimore Ravens: He missed six games with a toe injury this season, but started 48 straight from 2008-10. He is the other guard on the Ravens line to Marshall Yanda, but he's still a good player. He turns 28 in March.

These are perfect fits IMO..... Unfortunately, they probably have to much name recognition for our normal free agent targets.

Combined with Decastro... I would love Grubbs and Gaither.

Upshaw, Kuechly, and Kirkpatrick would become more appealing if we got Grubbs IMO.

I would take any of these guys but the guys in red would be ideal given their age, likely asking price and our needs. Guys like a Welker would be great but he isn't going anywhere.

5. DeSean Jackson, WR, Philadelphia Eagles: The ability should get him a huge contract. But the attitude might cut that down some. Even so, this kid is a game-changer. Those guys don't hit the market all the time. He turns 26 in December.
7. Vincent Jackson, WR, San Diego Chargers: The Chargers want him back, but at what cost? The indication is that the team won't tag him. He turned 29 in January.
16. Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints: The question with Colston is whether he would be as good in another system. I say yes, but he isn't a burner. He turns 29 in June.
49. Mario Manningham, WR, New York Giants: The Super Bowl hero is a good player, but is he a No. 2 receiver. And how much will he cost? Did the Super Bowl make the price come up? He turns 26 in May.

15. Carlos Rogers, CB, San Francisco 49ers: He is the player who will benefit most from signing a one-year deal. He will cash in big after a good 2011 season for the 49ers. He isn't young, turning 31 in July.

I would like to see the Cards pick up a speedy WR. When is the last time the Cards had a good WR who was very fast? Roy Green? The WR pool is deep and there should be someone available. Therefore, I would make this the number one priority in free-agency.

Next in importance (in free-agency) is OT. Unlike WR, the pool here is very shallow. However, there are a couple of guys who could work out. D. Bell (Buf.) and J. Gaither (S.D.) would be worth a try. With what the Cards currently have, an upgrade could come from even the most pedestrian player. I believe Max Starks (Pit.) will be available. He is older (30) and slowing down but even he might be a suitable upgrade for the Cards pathetic O-line.

Teams don't have the kind of money their fans often think they do to spend in free-agency so acquiring another highly sought after guy would be a stretch. However, if the Cards were to target another position after WR and OT, I would hope it would be LB. Either inside or out.

We need Levi, as much as we hate his play at times. You have to have depth for you OL. Just look how many teams get devastated each year in that area. We should resign him at less money, and at the same time upgrade his position. He knows our schemes and must be a good teammate for being wanted so badly. So I say keep him for depth &/or try him at guard with DeCastro.

The Chargers gave long-term contracts to their other starting OTs McNeill and Clary so they may opt to let Gaither walk. If they do resign him long-term, one of their other tackles will most likely be released because they'd have too big of a contract to be a backup. If that were to happen, I'd look at McNeill but not Clary since he sucks.

Last season the Cardinals went after Braylon Edwards, and might have been the team that had a long-term contract worked out for him before he got in trouble and had the offer rescinded. That tells me they are looking at #2 options who may command a somewhat big contract.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, although I'd substitute Spencer or Tullock for Haggens, and Colston for Garcon. I know he doesn't have the speed Garcon does, but he's a better reciever, I'd be fine with either, but if I had my choice it would be Colston. Would also love to add Finley from GB, Manning likes to use his TEs and not sure we have a good one on the roster at this point.
