So you'll go with the NFL Network gurus who firmly believe that Cam Newton is a much better prospect than Ryan Mallett, as well?

I spent two hours watching tape of Ryan Mallett, thank you very much, Stout. I know what I'm watching when I see him. Look around the NFL and tell me who Ryan Mallett best compares to. I've given you three guys he reminds me of: Drew Bledsoe at the end of his career, Byron Leftwich, and Jeff George. His delivery is so slow that the Dan Marino comparisons just don't fly.

EDIT: Further, Stout, if you look around the NFL landscape, where QBs along the lines of Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger, Josh Freeman, Aaron Rodgers, Mark Sanchez, Matt Ryan (4.82 40 in the Combine), Phillip Rivers, Tony Romo, and Jay Cutler (4.76 40 at the Combine) are all the rising stars of the QB position, tell me where you see pocket passers who cannot move their feet and don't care about it.

Your arrogance is matched only by your hypocrisy. Out of one side of your mouth you chide me that the experts like Newton better than Mallett, and out of the other side of your mouth you denigrate their opinion that Mallett moves well in the pocket.

You don't like the kid as a prospect, and so you seem determined to prove, and very poorly at that, that he has no shot at success. Since you clearly don't have the least bit of a clue, I am dismissing you out of hand as completely biased.

He's firmly on the Camwagon and I'd bet my life savings that he's a huge Mike Vick fan. He has his guy and is going to rip on everyone else. It's obvious and predictable.

You can't compare anyone to Marino's release. One I would in his hey day is Namath. Present day maybe P. Manning.

Fair enough, but I'm not the one making the comparisons between Marino and Mallett.

If you're looking for better examples of how a quick release can overcome average arm strength, you can look at our own Kurt Warner, and to a different extent Drew Brees and maybe Phil Rivers (although he may have a really strong arm and his goofy release just makes it look like he's short-arming everything).

Since both Pro Days are so early in the process, I'm guessing that each will have a private workout with any of the teams who are looking to draft them. I'm sure that Keim or Graves or (either?) Miller are at Arkansas, anyway.

Arkansas has three legit high round picks in D.J. Williams, Mallet, and Demarcus Love. Williams may be the sleeper in the group. He goes in rd two or three unless someone really recognizes his talent. All these scouts will not want to pump up the real good guys as they hope to steal them in the later rounds. If they do pump someone up then beware.

I watched Williams while I was watching tape on Mallett. Interesting kid, but he's small to be an NFL TE. He's more of an H-Back type. He'd look good in Washington (maybe) or in Indianapolis. He might be good as a Ram as a safety blanket for Sam Bradford (although it doesn't seem like he needs it maybe).

No biggie IMO all 32 teams will have someone there. I still don't think there's a chance the Cards would even consider selecting Newton...now Fairley thats a differant story.

I have no idea who the Cards will select. I know who I want them to select but I do not have the info they have. If you are to believe the so called experts on the many draft boards who do have good info not available to most of us, then most clearly they have us taking Von Miller. Miller may not even be there when we draft. I think I do know what our greatest need is as does the world. That would be a very good QB. Whether the Cards think one of those top QBs is very good I have no clue and that is the problem with making guesses.

Statistically there will be a starting QB come out of this draft. Statistically he will come out of the first round selections. In reality we have not drafted a starting QB since Neil Lomax decades ago. If you do not draft one the chances are you will always be a bottom feeder unless you get very very very lucky and get a Kurt Warner in FA.

1) What does this have to do with anything?

2) Still stinging from the 2002 NFL Wild Card game, huh?

Dont confuse bad 40 time with bad pro day. 90% of what I have read or seen about his pro day so far has been very glowing.

This from PFT is a lot like other reports read or seen.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/08/ryan-malletts-arm-continues-to-impress/

The sports guys here in Arkansas said Mallet looked very good at the pro sports day. When asked about his 40 time he responded he is no Michael Vick and does not expect to play like a Michael Vick. There are really no questions to be asked about Mallet's arm. He can make all the throws and is a prototype pocket passer who has player in a pro set his entire career.

Absolutely. It sickens me that people are bashing him for a slow 40 time. Most of the best recent QBs have had slow 40 times. They mean absolutely nothing. Cam Newton has a cannon arm and...and...and...oh wait, everything else mechanically pretty much sucks right now. Yet everyone wants to ride Newton's jock. He's athletic and Mallett is not. Yeah, we get that. I'd still be willing to bet that Mallett turns out to be a better starting QB than Newton. Easily.

If we can get Mallet in round two I would be all over him.

Yes. Mobility is not essential for a top quarterback. All you need is a big arm.

Sincerely,

Drew Bledsoe circa 2004 & Jeff George

*Huff* *Puff* Me Too! --JaMarcus Russell

P.S.

Ryan Mallett could just barely outrun Deuce Lutui when he came out in the draft.

He sure tore up the SEC with his passing and was named player of the week on several occasions. His game plan is to throw and not run the ball. I wonder what Dan Marinos 40yd time was? Actually, who cared?

I don't think so either, and I'm not really even that sold on him. But, i he is there in round two we need to take him.

jmho

I am beginning to wonder if we would be sold on any QB even if Peyton Manning were available. Sometimes teams outsmart themselves and ignore the obvious. I think sometimes the draft decision maker wants to show everyone else how smart he is and how dumb everyone else is.
