When does ownership start the discussion on this? I think we should resign him now......

I actually have to concur. Next season is already his lame duck season IIRC. Now would be the time to get it done. He has shown he deserves it! Not only do I extend him I give him a 5 year extension!

I kind of laughed when I saw this tread, because after the start of this year several posters seemed not to sure of our coach. I will tell you, I am in agreement that this issure needs to be addressed this year. Probably later in the season, especially if we can lock up the division early, like last year. Whisenhunt had done more for this franchise than anyone, and though not perfect he has turned a perininal loser into a respected football team. I say lock him up now.

I'd rather wait to see how the rest of the season plays out before we do this.

I guess a 2011 team option is a quasi-lame duck status.

We are the Cardinals. Extending him mid season would mean we tank the rest of the season. That's the way the football gods treat us. Wait till the offseason.

Resign = resignation, which is the formal act of giving up or quitting one's office or position. Is that what you want Whis to do? :D

If my last name was Bidwill I'd have called his house this morning and nicely asked Mrs. Whisenhunt to please go wake up her husband and ask him to come to the phone so that I could offer him a whole lot of money to remain a Cardinal for many, many, many moons to come.

Wait til the offseason. The management and coaches have told players to wait til the end of the season to reevaluate contract statuses. Im not saying that he doesn't deserve an extension, but I think it would be hypocritical to re-sign him mid season and not give the players a chance, like Q.

Two completely different animals. You cant compare coaches to players. Plus Whiz doesnt have 3 years left.

The problem is that players are at odds with management as it is regarding the way they handle contracts. Both Boldin and Dockett have stated that they are playing 110% despite them and only playing for themselves and their teammates. It's better for the morale, especially those dissatisfied with their contract status, to handle things in a consistent manner. You say its two different animals, but if Whis gets re-signed now, there will be uphevil; even if its not merited.

He's going to be re-signed, so why not just focus on football now and the administration later?

Dude, the guy took the ARIZONA CARDINALS to the Super Bowl. That is more than enough to get the benefit of the doubt and get a nice extension.

Relax people. When is the last time a coach left a team that wanted him via FA??? Whiz isn't going anywhere.

Ok, convince me.

Hes done enough of that on his own. We are 4-2 and 3-0 on the road. Our poor play calling in reference to clock management was no different under Haley last year at this time. He has been just fine in both capacities!

Extend him in the off-season. But there's no reason they can't privately start gesturing in that direction now.
