Mitch, I will take it one step further. I think it behooves the coach to get a qb capable of running his system or tailor his system to fit his personnel. It amazes me how he put tackles on an island that were and are fit for a running offense, and to borrow a line from THESMEL, and passes like his hair is on fire.

Have you watched a Cowpies, Iggles or Bears game? Those HCs do the same exact things. Don't act like Wiz is the only HC doing this. An offense without a QB & decent protection is like trying to start a car without the keys.

Somebody needs to hotwire whatever car the Cards are trying to start

I agree, Paso Fino. Just Whisenhunt's indecision as to which QB should start going back to the Leinart/Warner juggles tells us that the guy really doesn't understand how to coach QBs.

All 7 QBs in CKW's system since Warner retired have played with the same fear of making mistakes...and all of them have looked horrible at times...and not just for one series.

People want to just say the QBs suck---but it is the coach's job to prepare the QBs mentally, physically and emotionally for the games...and that aint been happening for far too long and with far too many choices.

Funny how the Sports Science video on Skelton compared him to Peyton Manning in a lot of categories, including accuracy...the coaches stated a number of times how they had to correct his footwork (always the answer it seems)...how was Fran Tarkenton's, Brett Favre's or John Elway's footwork? They probably never had the great coaching to 'correct a few things' or they might have been successful... I am not defending Skelton necessarily, but the story here is redundant and it seems too many 'talented' players here on the offensive side of the ball to suck so bad week after week. When Lindley went in, I was okay with it until he did no better... Skelton has had success with comebacks, why not put him back in and let him seal his own fate, rather than stick with a decision that was not working out and take a chance that Skelton got a wake up call and prevented another "should have won" to demoralize the defense...Mike Miller has no clue, and Russ Grimm cant coach... maybe some of those things should be fixed first

Really? I thought Skelton sealed his fate the previous 5 games & last year too when he didn't play all that well. Are you simply ignoring the fact he's more inaccurate than a blind man & throws more picks than games played? Wow just wow!!!

I don't agree. I say it's the QB's themselves. Not one of the previous QB's has done anything on another team in the league. If they even had a shred of success, then maybe you could make a point. But Leinart was 3rd string, moved to backup, and then passed over by TJ Yates. Scud holds a clipboard. Who knows what Max Hall is doing?

If Whiz has a problem, it's that he thinks he can win with less than mediocre talent at QB. I think he thinks he can coach a guy up to play above his potential. Unfortunately, there aren't many, if any, coaches that can do that.

I say give Whiz a talented QB and he'll win. In fact, he has. He had Ben==SB. He had Warner===SB. Heck you can even argue that with an average QB like Kolb, they were 4-1 beating Sea, NE, and an undefeated Philly team. The problem seems to be getting a talented QB. Thus my desire to acquire Rivers this off season.

I am not ignoring anything actually, the change was not working out, Skelton has had some good comeback wins in the past and he was just embarrassed by being yanked...motivation has a strange way of getting people focused...I just chose not to simply ignore that Lindley wasn't getting it done either and putting Skelton back in could have provided a better end result...maybe not, but Lindley didnt light the world on fire either

Lindley was one drop from our superstar from being in a position to win.

I like Whiz as our coach, I really do… he embodies the perception of stability, smartness, and at times a sense of genuine football savvy… something we (The Cardinals organization and faithful as a whole) have struggled with for God knows how many years before he arrived on the scene.

Whiz exudes an intuitive, decisive nature, and apparently has enough command of the English language to dissuade most of the local media from crooning symbiotically of his deserved demise as a head coach.

That said, this is year three of knowingly moving forward with a transparent offensive line and probably to be fair, year two of an obvious shaky QB position. Who is to answer for that?

I get that this is a league of attrition… that you have the real, and highly likely possibility of sustaining irretrievable injuries…but still, in your core positions you have to, as Whiz has stated over and over and over again… “give yourself the best chance to win.”

Our offense is woefully awful (okay, maybe not entirely woeful)… and injuries aside, they’d probably be a little less woeful and ineffectual even if they were 100% healthy from our Day 1 roster. To me, that speaks more to upper management than coach… but I could be horribly wrong if the coach is not actively promoting what it is the team is in so desperate need of.

We need a QB (who doesn’t) and more importantly, an offensive line. We’ve needed it for three years now and we are no better off than we were then. Are those things easy to acquire? Certainly not, but they are not impossible either… yet somehow we continue as a team to come up short in this regard, given the ways we’ve tried to address such critical positions with Band-Aids, baling wire, and duct tape.

Who’s to answer for that?

I don’t have an answer for that… I really don’t. But in my gut, I think Whiz is smart enough to look at the roster he was dealt and not be fooled by the obvious recurrent wholes he came into this season (and previous two seasons) with.

So yeah, fool me once… blah, blah, blah. Fool me one more year and then we have definite issues. I don’t care if we win out the rest of the season in 2012 (hardly likely)… by next preseason, but we had better address the obvious past discretions for me to be convinced the Cardinals are truly trying to be relevant in this league, as they continue to convince us of.

I think realistically, Graves, Whiz & Grimm are all staring down the barrel of one last chance to prove themselves correct.

And from my standpoint as a die-hard fan, and loyal follower of a perennial fruitless team for many years… I certainly wish them all the best, and pray each exceeds all of our wildest expectations. I really do.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I agree that goal #1, 2 & 3 this offseason is to fix the QB position. What is the best way to do it? I don't know. If I could bring in Norv Turner, trade a 2013 1st and a 2014 3rd for Tony Romo, and find someway to upgrade one of the two OG positions, I think that would do it. Hell, if the Cowboys would jump on board I would offer a 2013 2nd and a 2014 1st. Don't think it happens, but that would be the best option IMO.

My biggest issue going forward is I know this team has talent on it. I have what the team can do with mediocre play from the QB position. I hate to turnover the HC, which then leads to turning over the roster, with all of this talent around. I would love to develop a QB, but realistically, I'm not sure we have time to do it. What I don know is that Skelton is not a solution, and Kolb SHOULDN'T be paid 13mil to find out if he is.

Agree with the bolded part, except the last sentence. The San Diego games I've watched do not inspire confidence in Philip Rivers. And even if Rivers is the silver bullet, the cost would probably be prohibitive and preclude making the offensive line upgrades throught the draft.

Without a running game, any quarterback short of the second-coming of Kurt Warner or the next Big Ben won't be enough IMO.

In Rivers defense, he's also playing behind a patchwork OL that has either an imoblie Jared Gaither or an undrafted rookie starting at LT. Also, he has corp of #3 and 4 type WR's he's throwing to in Danario Alexander, Malcolm Floyd, and Robert Meachem. Gates is a shell of himslef too.

With his contract and IF the Chargers go into re-build mode, the cost won't be as prohibitive as you may think. They are not getting a 1st round choice for him, unless it's a conditional 1st round choice.

Rivers walking off the field before game was over was like Buddy Ryan running off the field before game was over.

That was much ado about nothing. There was no way the WR's were going to get back onside with 6 seconds left. It's not like he sprinted off to the locker room. He went over to congtratulate the other team. The game WAS over at that point.

I agree, once I watched video I thought, who cares about that? Rivers has done far worse. He is pretty much Cutler without slightly better terrible mechanics.

how were they 4-1? They lost his last start and he threw a horrific interception late in the fourth quarter losing while in scoring position. if he gets the credit and W for one drive in the Seattle game, how does he not get the L for a game where he put up horrific stats against the worst D in the league at home when he was losing the game late in the fourth?

Mainly because he was the QB when the game was decided in one case(the win) and wasn't the QB when the game was decided in OT(the loss).

Same Kolb who was 1-6 last season. While Skelton was 6-2.

The Cards defense and special teams won all the games neither QB had anything to do with the wins.

The only difference between those two bums is that Kolb starts out ok and then plays worse every game until he gets hurt. Skelton starts out bad and stays bad. A perfect pair if your goal is 5-11 every year.

Meanwhile our idea of a replacement for those two losers is a rookie who could only complete 55% of his passes in college in a conference that hasn't played defense in 25 years. :thud:
