What is Berry making? I could see him getting cut if his cap hit is high.
I wasn't impressed much with Clancy last year. Now with Branch and Watson at NT there isn't room for Clancy. If the Cardinals do go to the 3-4 then Clancy could be the odd man out. I would have no problem with them getting rid of him.
Somers and Urban don't write such things unless they've heard talk around the complex. Yes, the article only discusses possibilities. But, it's interesting that cuts are being discussed at ALL. Three months ago, anyone floating the idea of cutting any of those guys due to cap space would've been laughed out of town.
Don't doubt that, but talk is cheap.
P.S. if management has a few re-negotiations in mind, it doesn't hurt to float these possibilities.
Don't know what's required to impress you, but our run D was always better with Clancy in the line.
It was the Denver game that I rewatched and I focused on Clancy. He was handled one on one by Tom Nalen and was completely a non factor the entire game. I can understand if you are constantly double teamed and don't make many plays. But if you are going one on one you need to beat your guy at least a few times. Clancy didn't beat Nalen once that game.
it just doesn't make sense to me that coming in to the offseason so flush with cap space that there is a chance we have to cut people - not because Wiz doesn'tlike them perse, but because we need the money to sign our rookies. Just the fact that this is being talked about as a possibility is a head-scratcher.
I mean, did we just boost the belly of the team, but in process we had to gut the belly of the team to do it? That won't make any sense.
Taken literally, you're right. But the fact that Kent made it a point to write an entire article about it kind of adds weight to the phrase: "could be."Backups such as G Milford Brown, NT Kendrick Clancy and Ross could be in danger.
What part of "could be" do some people not understand?
Cheesy - You've been around long enough not to be fooled into buying into to off-season hype about "the Cards being cap rich."it just doesn't make sense to me that coming in to the offseason so flush with cap space that there is a chance we have to cut people...

When you start to subtract such things as (a) the rookie pool, (b) extending contracts of veteran players, (c) re-signing unrestricted free agents you want to keep and (d) paying off performance incentives etc., suddenly there isn't so much cap room anymore.
At the beginning of each off-season, we hear the same old, same old about being "cap rich" from the local and national media; and no one (i.e. not the media & not the Cardinals) ever refutes this. They just let the misinformation stand and then - toward the end of the signing period - we're told "Surprise! We're out of money"
Happens every year.
Huh? Wasn't that long ago we were extending people midseason to use up caproom.
This is the first year I can recall where we INTENTIONALLY signed contracts to frontload cap hit onto this year, and then months later may have to cut or restructure guys to get everyone signed.
It's quite possible we'll do it correctly and it will be a non issue, but it's sure weird to me at the moment.

I am thinking Berry or Okeafor is going to be cut. They have low production and high salaries. Cutting one of them would give them enough cap space to sign the rookie class and sign a couple of veterans. I also agree Milford Brown is on the hot seat as well. The coaching staff and Brown havn't seen eye to eye. Maybe Whisenhunt doesn't want the distraction in the lockerroom and cut Brown.
Berry had 6 sacks in 10 games, so one could imagine a 10 sack season. Okeafor had 8.5, tied for highest total dating back to 2004 in Seattle.
There's a premium in the NFL for guys who can get to the QB, and neither of these two are easily replaced by anyone presently on the roster.
Can you give me a credible source for your assertion that "the coaching staff and Brown havn't seen eye to eye"?.
P.S. Dwight Freeney had 5.5 sacks in 16 games last season.
Okeafor didn't start getting his number until the second half the season. Where was he the first half of the season.
There were a couple of article on how Whisenhunt wasn't pleased with Brown non participation at the beginning of the offseason.
Playing the other side of the line where he is more concerned about containing the run.
Okeafor blew up once he was moved around more and rushed off the edge as an OLB. He is going to be a very good OLB in the 3-4 IMO.
Cutting both Okeafor and Berry would be just a giant blunder. You have no one behind them who could step in and equal their production.
Hell no. I am for Warner restructuring, but releasing him would mean the season would end if Leinart goes down. He is an outstanding backup. And Aaron Brooks is worse than Eric Crouch. That would be a terrible move.Cut Warner and sign Aaron Brooks, case closed
I think the issue was with Brown taking off time at mini camp to get married .. very curious timing to me ... there is plenty of other times to tie the knot ... very bad move on Browns part ...There were a couple of article on how Whisenhunt wasn't pleased with Brown non participation at the beginning of the offseason.

Yep ...Dude, do you have any idea how long it takes to plan a wedding? Teams get an extra minicamp when they change coaches. If Brown even started planning his wedding 9 months in advance, he couldn't have predicted that the Cards would fire Denny Green and then the pre-draft minicamp would be held the same week as his wedding.
