2). When did you begin following the Cardinals?
3). What's the most memorable Cardinal related moment you

1) Section 11 mentioned when I was on the AZ Central Board.

2) When I moved to town in the mid-1990s.

3) Went to both the NO and SD games at SDS during the play-off run.......awesome!

Swd, Jersey Girl etc. - I just want you to know that atop the roof of my house (a relic from the pre-DirecTV days) still sits an ancient outdoor antenna that (boosted by an amplifier) I could rotate toward Philly in order to pull in snowy, ghosty Eagle - Cardinal games on Channel 10 (at that time - it was Pre-Fox).

That and driving to the parking lot of Mom's Peppermill Diner off Exit 8 near Hightstown, where I could pull in the Washington Redskins radio signal when they'd play the Cardinals.

1) There used to be a Cards site on Rivals.com. Came to this one after Skkorp and Co started it. Found the Rivals.com board by surfing the web one day and stumbled on to it.
2) Started offically when they moved to AZ. I have a program from the first game. A friend of mine worked the loge in SDS and got me one for free. He used to let me in the loge for free as well. Those were the days.
3) The SF game when Lomax threw the last minute pass to Roy Green to win the game.

1. Off of the Arizona republic

2. Went to my first Cardinal game as a little kid in Chicago in 1955
and have been a Big Red fan ever since. Followed the caravan around the country and thanks to internet and DirecTv, I can follow them until I croak.

3. Jackie Smith catching one down the sideline running like a runaway freight train dragging would be tacklers into the end zone. Jackie Smith is my favorite all time Cardinal player followed closely by Larry Wilson.

P.S. I have got to be the Cardinal fan with the longest affiliation on this board. :cards:

So all the newbies and crossovers can get in line behind me.

1) I used to read the WAY OLD Rivals board - was that the one with Articles by Jim Richards? If so - I went from there to azcentral - found the old site and then migrated over here. I used to lurk for a while telling Ouchie how much of a loser he was until the day I stepped up and got into a war with Tango on my first day - Skkorp almost banned me that day and I never even realized it until I finally found my PMs about four months ago.

I ran and wrote for the Rivals site...Jim Richards wrote for Bob Chebat and I on AZProSports, and the paper we tried to start.

1. I was hired by Rivals.com to run their Cards and Suns sites...that lasted a year until they went "belly up" like all the dot-com's...joined Bob Chebat to build AZProSports, tried to start the Arizona Sports Gazette (and did publish two issues), September 11th happened, and running a sports site/paper just didn't seem like the thing I should be doing anymore, so I got a normal job, and then was hired by Jim Skane to build this site.

I am pretty surprised that everyone calls AZProSports "Bob Chebat's board/site"...when it was both of ours :)

2. Loved the Cards ever since they arrived in Phoenix.

3. Being at the final game of the season that sent them to the playoffs for the first time in 49 years (or whatever it was) in 1997 or 1998, I'm bad with dates.

Good job Wally! I pictured you as an early 20s yuppie :p

I think Jim Omohundro's lineage may have you trumped :D

Sure, he's a young pup, but he's got the pedigree of being a Cards employee

1. it's amazing what things you can find while bored at work.

2. i've been a fan since my dad has 2 season tickets to busch stadium until they moved on us. went to asu and went to every game from 1996-1999. '98 was magical. we would go at halftime and bring francine (a ticket agent) a box of cookies and she'd look the other way - always got in free! i'm sure she got fired.

3. best moment ever - the Jacke field goal. i'm all out of goosebumps...

Well, I initially came across ASFN in late June because I was looking for Phoenix Sun's draft party info and someone had linked the URL of this site to another one......

I moved from Metro-Detroit back on 5/12/02 and I have followed the Suns since the mid-late 80s and the Diamondbacks since their inception (when Buck Showalter was named their first manager).
I must admit that I really didn't really begin to direct any major interest in the Cardinals until last year's exhibition games and this forum has served as "Cardinals 101" for me......

Probably a positive for you..... Was witnessing Gramatica's GW FG in OT last season vs. the Lions in Tempe........

So, here's your opportunity to respond to these questions.......

1. December I think it was of 2003, on another Card board was linked via one of the Maddogs. Thank you, there is alot of knowledgeable fans here, more so than not, and if they're not, they're passionate, which I love.
2. When they moved to Arizona, ever since they've always been my favorite team in any sport.
3. Definately the game in like '88 or so, when the Cardinals @home, came back against the 49ers from a 23-0 halftime score. My Dad and brother were begging to leave early, "it's over, it's over!" I said, "hell no, we're coming back, have some faith," and we did. Best "NFL" moment I've witnessed in person.

EDIT: I think I have to change #3, my favorite Card moment was knockin Dallas out of the playoffs in '98, which allowed me to do some SERIOUS trash talking for well EVER. I hate the Cowboys and their fairweather fans.

One of the guys threatened me that I posted this board's link on his board.

I just like to let Cards fans know that there is an intelligent board that you don't have to wear bullet proof armor all the time

Good to see ya!

Adopted the Cards as soon as they moved here. Shared season tickets with aother couple for a few years, ended up buying single game tickets to games we didn't draw.

Purchased our own season tickets in 1992.

Blame Jeff Gollin, Mike Olbinski, Mrs42, Ed Burmila, Jo Sparkes, Jim Omohundro, Lee Shappell and the AZ Republic for the existence of ASFN.

When Lee Shappell was elevated to Cards beat writer by the Republic, I wrote to congratulate him and tell him how much I liked his writing. (We've kept in touch ever since and Lee encouraged me to start ASFN.) Lee started posting on the Az Central AOL board where Jeff Gollin was the resident guru.

Then Jeff started the Big Red Sheet about the time I was thinking of starting a site myself. With the BRS and the AOL message board filling Cards' fans needs, I put my plans on hold.

As the old AOL board was abandoned by the Republic, Rivals started up, AzProsports succeeded it, and I just didn't want to compete with those excellent products. By then, I was writing articles for AzProSports every now and then.

When Mike Olbinski had to leave AzProSports to earn a living, I realized that board was going to fail too. Bob Chebat's pleas for money to keep it going further convinced me the board's days were numbered.

So I jumped in.

1. Jeff's BRS success convinced me to try.
2. Mike Olbinski agreed to program and maintain the site for a ridiculously low fee.
3. Ericka Lassiter and Ed Burmila put ASFN on the road to legitimacy with their excellent articles.
4. Jo Sparkes helped us get media credentials thanks to her excellent articles and personal drive.
5. Jim Omohundro found us and helped us in ways too numerous to detail.

The rest was done by you and I am still amazed at the participation and growth of the site.

My favorite Cardinal moment was sitting in the stands, yelling at the cowturds around us as we watched the goal post come down after beating the pukes in SDS.

The Neil Lomax to Roy Greene pass to beat the 49ers comes a close second.

1) whenever it started, been here basically from the get go.

2) 1974 or 1975 in grade school. Everyone was 49er fans, raider fans, best friends were vikings fans. I think I liked two things, the helmets, and Terry Metcalf.

3) Positive: the comeback against the Rams. It wasn't on tv in the Bay area but I'll never forget it, down 28-20 they show the score and go to commercial. Come back and in the background you can see the score again, it's a final. But it was too small to see for sure so minutes later they tell us that Jim Hart rallied us for 10 points and a 30-28 win.

Negative: Too many, I guess the 1984 loss at RFK that cost us the playoffs, got hosed by the refs the whole game, but I still say that game came down to the one mistake in the entire game Lomax made, trying to throw deep off his backfoot to a wide open Roy Green, ball hung, Darrel Green picked it, and we were in FG range at the time.

Runner up has to be the Clyde Duncan draft, was worse than passing on Suggs, everyone knew we needed a WR and KR , Lipps was the highest rated on the board, and we took Duncan who's rep was fast, bad hands, and couldn't return kicks. Lipps was the ROY and Duncan stunk.

1. I found about AFSN's predeccessor (whatever that other board was) along time ago when Skorp was posting there. He left and started this board and came and joined.

2. mid 80's. I hated Dallas and use to always root for them . I was only like 14-15 years old so I also liked the bright red uni's.

3. Most memorable might have been the pass Plummer through to Jenkins a few years back to beat Philly with just afew seconds left. The reason is I was at a friends house who is a huge philly fan, surrounded by his huge philly fan family and when Jenkins scored I talked so much crap! hahah that was nice!

1. I think Maddog or JKF posted a link to the site on the (appropriately named) Yahoo board last year. I joined to talk about the Suns push into the playoffs.

2. I had always liked the Cardinals but was never interested in them or followed them untill they moved here. I began to truly follow the Cardinals within a couple years of them moving here about '89 - '90. About the time I started following the Suns (and other sports) as well. I have been to several games but I have never bought season tickets.

3. There have been several memorable moments I can recall readily. The playoff win against the Cowboys would have to be the best memory.
There are quite a few bad memories as well but I will not dwell on them here. :)

1) From another message board.
2)1988
3) Playoff win was great. Nothing better than beating the team that has more fans in your hometown than you do! This year should trump that.

1. Came over from the AZprosports site

2. Born in St Louis, so I guess since birth. Really go into it around 7 or 8. Somewhere I have these pencil drawing posters of Hart, Green, Tilley, etc. that you could get when you filled up with gas.

3. On the bad, the season finale in the 80s? vs. the Redskins when O'Donohue missed the FG. Broke my heart.

On the good, Larry Centers stepping on the back of and vaulting himself over the Cowboy defender.

1) I really don't remember? I think I used to read the other board azprosports, but never posted.. didn't have time. I used to read Cards Corner on the AZ republic site, but that place was a joke.

2) I used to always have a weird desire to catch cardinals highlights even though i Used to be a 49er fan..(who wasn't since that is all I could see growing up in Louisiana.) I started paying attention as much as I could when I was stationed in Albuquerque in '95 since it was Cowboy country. I moved to Az in '98... first ever live game was against the Kerry Collins led Saints that year. I think it was the game before that SD game. Since then I was a cardinal fan exclusively.

3) Positives? Every day I get to watch this team get better.

4) Too many to count. I would say the flight path with the stadium thing and the John F Long thing was pretty stupid.

Migrated from other board along with Skorp and others. Been a Cards fan since 1945 when I lived in Chicago suburb of Highland Park. Cards played on South side then but also played Bears at Wrigley.

Greatest plays always come back to Charlie Trippi and the Dream Backfield. One game against the Bears the Cards open with a long TD pass of about 80 yards for a TD on first play of game. Other big memory was O.J. Anderson against Dallas in his first game. I think he took it to the bank on his first carry (memory is fading but that is the way I remember it). Other big play I have vivid memories of was when I was living in N.J. Saw the Cards play the Eagles. Ollie Matson hit the line on about his own 20. No hole so he bounced off the pack and went 80 yds for a TD. Ollie was another of my all time favorite runners.
