Since this is the time of year when everyone tends to overrate their scouting abilities, I thought it would be appropriate to make a thread about player projections we completely whiffed on in the past.
It happens to all of us. You personally guarantee that a player will turn into a star in the weeks leading up to the draft, curse the day the Cards didn't pick him (or celebrate the day they did) and feel like an idiot when said player turns into a bust. I seem to repeat this scenario far too often, but these are the ones I remember the most.
J.J. Johnson RB- Despite his horrible off-field history and the addition of Murrell the year before, I implored the Cards to trade up at the start of the second round to grab JJ. I thought he was destined to run over NFL LBs for a decade. Johnson ended up rushing for a total of 748 yards in his three years in the league and now owns a convenience store in Mississippi.
Joel Makovica FB-To this day, I have no idea why I was so adamant about the Cards needing to draft Mackovica. When they did, I foolishly proclaimed he would transform the offense into one of the toughest in the league. From the fullback position, no less, which is admittedly a tall order. I was obviously way off on that one.
Boss Bailey LB-Man, I loved Boss Bailey when he came into the league. I understood the questions about his physical makeup, but I believed his instincts and intensity would make up for his lean frame. Although Boss played six years in the NFL, his talents never lived up to one of my favorite linebacker names of all-time.
Winston Justice OT-I was crushed to see a player I believed to be the next great OT go off the board two picks before the Cards could snag him. I was almost as upset to see the Falcons take Jimmy Williams a few picks earlier, so I was all over the place that year.
Levi Brown OT-Yeah, I bought into the hype, even though I was a big AP fan when he was in college. I was also still under the impression that Russ Grimm was a solid O-line coach, so I give myself somewhat of a pass on this one.

Larry English OLB -Maybe it was just my Illinois roots, but I was convinced English would be the next Demarcus Ware. He turned out to be Will Davis with durability issues.
