A year or two? He’s not coming for a year or two, even if Napier is the heir apparent.
I think the contrary. When asked why he felt he fit in at ASU, Edwards replied "because of Ray Anderson". I think he and Anderson have an understanding (hand shake deal) that Edwards will man the position as a favor to Anderson and step down in a couple of years when Anderson feels Napier is ready to take the reigns. The question is, will Napier stay at ASU that long? He may have given Anderson an indication he'd stay, but he could have a change of heart should a better gig come along, like the PSU OC position.

I don’t know guys, you seem to be grasping at straws. A dude who hasn’t coached in a decade, and never a head coach at the college level, is going to come off the bench and uproot his life for a year or two? A 63 year old? And another guy is the guy in waiting but he might boot for another job? If all that’s true this is a house of cards.

I see it differently and of course, coming from a UofA fan, I'll consider the source here... ;)

ASU has always suffered when competing for recruits against UCLA, USC, Stanford, Oregon and even Washington...let alone the Texas schools. No matter who replaced Graham, that reality was not going to change...however, Edwards without questions holds the most promise for meaningful improvement in this area.
As for the "grind" of coaching, though 63, Herm is in incredibly good shape, both physically and mentally. And if the rumors are true - that he is simply a stop-gap until Napier is ready, he then knows he can go full throttle for a year or two and then turn iot all over to Napier.
We'll have to see how the wins & losses pan out. However, I am very optimistic about the improvements to come in the area of recruiting...
Fair enough. Agree to disagree. But you can’t deny that if he does poo like this in a recruit’s living room, it won’t help:

His loyalty to Anderson apparently runs deep. He even said it in an interview he felt he owed it to Anderson to come in and talk about the position.

I've read before there was a high profile recruit who ended up at UA say that he and Book (Richardson) had a dance off during his in home visit a few years ago. Its all about connecting with a recruit, I'm sure Edwards won't make doing the Electric Slide part of his in home recruiting pitch unless he felt it would help.

“You’re sure” - I don’t know Herm personally, and all individuals are different, but in my experience the older you are the less flexible you become and you’re typically tgeblast to realize (if you ever do) that you’re out of touch.

I’m going to hope against my better judgment that this somehow works out for asu. But I’m expecting this to be a lesson for future sports administration classes in abject failure.

Well suck a duck. Anderson has had this hire in mind for a while now...hence why there were 0 interviews done. Still don't get it, but I'm certain Herm will be a much better recruiter than Graham.

Really? Based on what? He never has recruited in his life.

Just his energy and NFL experience. More of a gut feeling I suppose...don't have any facts to back it up. Maybe it's just blind hope. Looking for any silver lining, in an otherwise very underwhelming hire.

I've heard some of the sports radio show hosts like Doug and Wolfe and Jay Feeley think he would be great at recruiting. That would be a real positive. I'm just pessimistic on the hire. Would love to be proven wrong.

For all the hands wringing it is now radio silence. Wasn't Herm supposed to be official by now? I wonder if Crow heard the complaints?

He hasn't used his Twitter account since before the kids he will be recruiting were in middle school, but I'm sure he'll have no problems connecting with today's youth.

What does ASU have to sell young recruits? That's what he's got to figure out. It all starts with his incoming freshman class.

We wont ever beat out USC, UCLA and Stanford on a regular basis no matter who the coach is. But, Tempe itself beats the hell out of the vast majority of college towns. The campus continues to go through major redevelopment. The football facilities are now generally considered to be in the upper tier nationally. And the stadium is just now starting the final stages of its own improvement plan.

There is a TON to sell young recruits! But again, perspective is key as the three CA schools I mentioned will always kick out butt...

He will be like any other coach. There will be someone assigned to running and managing his accounts. You think Nick Saban is pouring over his social media accounts all hours of the day and night?

Herm will have help and he will figure things out. The hiring is a done deal. All we can do is hope it goes as well as Anderson thinks it will and support the players like we always do

I think they will have a good season in 2018 as they will have many returnees at key positions. Theses are Graham's players. IMO that will be Edwards best year and the program will crash after that unless Edwards can actually recruit.

Well, I am just glad to see Todd Graham gone. I never liked him being hired in the first place. I felt he was just too old school southern military-like bible bashing type which would not be attractive to a younger generation of modern intelligent players. He sold his product well to a backward ASU administration/bootsters. His shtick may still go over well in the redneck Longhorn and Sooner states, but this is the 21st century west. I am glad he, his crew cut, and bible are gone.

To take it one step further, I never trust anyone who comes across like Graham. He just reminds me too much of these southern stereotypical military religious right wing guys, most of which are giant homophobes, hiding their own gay desires and tendencies behind their projected image of a tough rough bible thumping, Oral Roberts loving, rednecks. I grew up in Texas, and know this type well. Most of them were the school bullies, who grew up to be even bigger egotistical righteous coaches, cops, and other authoritarian figures. They all make me sick, probably because they are so easy to see through.

The bible thumper approach from a coach usually wears thin on players...see Mark Jackson.

Watching ASU's presser...Herm has a ton of energy, and you can tell he's excited. Guessing he was brought in to recruit and sell the program...judging by his comments. He also wants to establish an identity for the team, and focus on fundamentals. Plus, recruits' parents are going to love this guy.
