You're comparing Ray Anderson to Robert Sarver?? LOL...

This was Bordow's thoughts about the hiring process.

His comments make sense to be me especially because he was critical of those who were not willing to give Herm Edwards a fair chance.

I like the "pro" approach, and the fact it appears someone is thinking outside the box. We have tried all the usual methods and styles up to this point, and none have gotten us anywhere near the next level. I am all for giving it and him a chance. It will be fun and interesting, which it hasn't been for 2 decades or so that I can remember.

Most people don't like change, so I understand why so many would reject this new approach and new kind of head coach. But hell, why not shoot for the moon. What do we have to lose? Another couple of lousy mediocre seasons? We should be able to deal with that, shouldn't we, if it comes to only that?

That's my biggest qualm...no other candidates interviewed. If Herm even remotely doesn't work out...Anderson will look like a clown.

I'm hoping this hire works out because of ASU.

I read this but what if he hadn't?

This should have been confirmed before anything happened.

How do you know it wasn't?? Geeez... you guys act as if you have some type of hotline into ASU Athletics! Just because Anderson, or Napier, or anyone else, hasn't come out and confirmed this, doesn't mean that Anderson and Napier haven't reached an understanding!

Im a bit skeptical on this hire on the fact he hasnt coached or recruited for a very long time. But im intrigued by the selling of this program as a NFL "grooming" opportunity for whoever is good enough to be offered a scholarship to play for ASU football. Kids might want take advantage if their dream is to play at the next level? Might work???

Recruiting will be his measuring stick, as that is what he is being brought in for. Napier and Bennett will be running the show on the field it seems (if they stick around). If Herm can't bring in the big recruits then the experiment is a failure.

That’s actually one of many similar takes. Essentially:

- Anderson and Crow chose an extremely unorthodox (different) path. More than anything, this has ruffled the feathers of a bunch of old white “experts” whose collective heads are imploding because they can’t deal with the degree of divergence this represents. It doesn’t fit the/their model. It didn’t follow the/their accepted process.

- And for ASU alum and other ASU fans, they are freaked because this officially puts ASU on notice and in the cross-hairs of the college football world. It’s a massive gamble by Anderson and Crow, one that could result in them looking like geniuses, or complete fools. And it’s the latter that fans of ASU fear the most. That the school and turn out looking foolish and second-rate when the entire college football universe is looking... That concern is understood... As for me, I totally respect the balls and the willingness to be different, being demonstrated by Anderson and Crow. Yea, it might fail... but nobody is going to die if they do.

Except maybe the program on a national scale.

B-Train dropped an interesting recruiting perspective from his college recruitment. Edwards supporters to include ASU HOF alumni & Edwards himself feel his biggest contribution will be on the recruiting trail. B-Train mentioned his recruitment came down to ND & PSU, both had legendary coaches at the time (Holtz & Paterno). Bertrand mentioned his decision did not come down to the coach but school legacy and reputation for sending guys to the NFL. If that is the case then it may not be all on Edwards if he doesn't set the recruiting world ablaze here as kids are looking at the money train programs like ALA, CLEM, OSU. Gambo & Ash brought up a good point when they said kids don't go to ALA to play for Saban (he's a difficult and demanding coach) but because ALA is a football factory these days and are perennial championship contenders, kids jump at the chance to go there. Barring amazing luck, ASU will not be a national title contender unless they can get tons of 4 & 5 star guys. If Edwards can get them here then he is worth his weight in gold but its on Napier & Bennett to develop those players into a BCS bowl success.
