For the most part we have discussed who we hope the Cards take and as a byproduct some have talked about who they don't want. Let's make it official and list if drafted by the Cards would bum you out.

My caveat is that in Whis I trust so if said player listed by me is picked by the Cards I will change my tune.

In no particular order:

Any QB in any round: Lousy class and not a need. i

Bruce Campbell: Workout warrior who's game tape says at best project.

Iupitui (sp): Joeshmo has me convinced.

Jacoby Ford: No lateral ability and short.

Any player below 5' 8": we already have our quota.

Any player who is just a return guy: Don't want one dimensional players.

Gronkowski: Bad back scares me.

Spikes: Having assassins is one thing, dirty slow players is another.

Shipley: I know I'm in the minority on this. Our next WR should be a burner IMHO.

RB: I'm very happy with the current group. Maybe one after the 4th rd to upgrade Wright.

Avoid Terrence Cody and Bruce Campbell. Neither are first-rounders and both come with huuuuge question marks. NFP has the Cardinals taking Campbell. :(

I wouldn't mind Shipley at all. Good consistent receiver who runs good routes and doesn't seem to drop the ball.

Nuff said.

Do you think Albert Haynesworth looked fit when he was drafted? Please. Camera phones and bloggers are spoiling the evaluation process.

I don't care how they look at weigh-ins. Put in the tape and watch the games, and Terrance Cody is a dominant athlete.

Cody only has one question mark and one only. His weight. Which is just as many question marks as anyone else you can pick at #26. Other then his weight his coaches called him a hard worker who did everything they asked of him. Combine that with great film and the only NT in the draft who actaully played the zero technique in a 3-4 D at a very high level, and he doesnt even come close to belonging in the same sentance as Bruce Campbell.

Obviously Cody's biggest question mark is his weight. However that is part of what made him so sucessful in college. No one at that level could move him. I question whether he will be as effective at the NFL level. Hence why I don't think he warrants a 1st round pick.

1. His stamina will be a major concern. Cody slowed down as the college season went on. That makes me believe that he will really struggle in the second half of the much longer NFL season. It would get even worse if his team makes the playoffs.

2. He is not quick off the snap. That means he will not get to the QB. It also means he will not get the RB behind the LOS. His life will completely reside within the 2 guards.

3. He will not be an every down player in the NFL. He will have to be subbed out in passing situations. I feel he will be pretty much useless in the 4th quarter when he is worn down.

You are right. One look at a picture and you have your answer. I mean, look at this undefined, unshaped, weak wimp. He'll never amount to anything. :sarcasm:

I just don't understand how anyone can say we don't need to spend a pick on a QB in this draft. We need some kind of backup plan in case Leinart plays well, but we can't manage to sign him to a new contract. And the idea of going into next year saying we're going to draft a rookie or start Derek Anderson absolutely frightens me. I'm not claiming that we should use our first or second round pick on a QB, but taking a flyer on a guy in rounds 3-7 is a must.

Its a major concern for all NT's. Its why Pat Williams plays less then half the snaps in a season. Same for Hampton, Wilfork, and Jamaal Williams.

How is any of that any different then other NT's. My NT could have zero sacks and zero tackles for loss and still be a all pro. It isnt about stats with a NT its about controling the line of scrimmage.

And how different is he from any other NT who comes out on 3rd down. Pickett, Pat Williams, Wilfork, Hampton, Franklin, and Jamaal Williams are all NT types, all get or got paid big money, all only play in half the defensive snaps, all usually getting taken out in passing situations. You think teams would not pick any of those guys just because they dont play on third down?

He wouldn't have that problem in Arizona as Gabe Watson would be in a regular rotation with him. Just like Robinson and Watson rotated last season. However, the Cards might have to take a timeout just to give Cody and Watson time to run on and off the field.

What percentage of the defensive snaps did Cody play at Alabama?

I don't think taking a "flyer" on a QB in the 3-7 rds is much of a plan. This QB class blows chunks. Finding a diamond in the rough is akin to me dating Megan Fox. Bring in 2 of the "diamonds" as an UDFA, there will be plenty to choose from.

Spend draft picks on players that actually might contribute this year. Our D could certainly use some help.

ML won't play so well that the Cards can't keep him. Worst case scenario is we pay (what most likely be the going rate for a quality QB) the $14 million or so that he will cost next year. That's if we can't work out a long term contract which I don't understand why that wouldn't happen.

Agree 100%. If BSP resigns, it is very unlikely that a 4th QB will be kept on the roster anyway.

Fully agree. I don't get the argument that if they only play 2 downs then they aren't worth a 1st rd pick. Most teams like to rotate their D players anyways. How many pass rush specialist are there that only come in on passing downs. If Cody is in and a team tries to pass then they will still need to put 2 blockers on him or he will walk the C or G back into the QB's lap.

He wouldn't have that problem in Arizona as Gabe Watson would be in a regular rotation with him. Just like Robinson and Watson rotated last season. However, the Cards might have to take a timeout just to give Cody and Watson time to run on and off the field.

Watson has proven he can get to the sideline and I'm sure Lott will have Cody in decent enough shape to do so as well. I do realize that was a joke. ;)

I'll agree that this QB class isn't stellar, but that's why I wanted the Cardinals to bring in Whitehurst. But there's some guys out there that I think can at least beat out BSP. I think Leinart will pan out... but if he doesn't, we're in trouble.

There's no point, Joe. MCD doesn't believe that any nose tackle is worth a first-round pick, or (I believe) big free agent money. According to MCD, any combination of Gabe Watson and a fifth-round pick will be perfectly fine in preventing Frank Gore from gaining 167 yards against us.

Or DeAngelo William from gaining 158 yards against us.

Or Chris Johnson from gaining 154 yards against us.

Or Steven Jackson from gaining 116 yards against us.

But those are marquee running backs. What we really don't need a top-shelf nose tackle for is to prevent the lesser backs in the NFL from gaining 123 yards against us like Justin Forsett did on November 15.

Or 126 yards like Maurice Morris did on December 20.

It's fairly clear that a good nose tackle is a luxury that this defense can afford to pass on.

Well a combination of Robinson and Watson held Gore to 30 yards on 22 carries. They held Steven Jackson to 17 yards on 7 carries, Seattle to 12 yards on 10 carries, Slaton of the Texans to 39 yards on 13 carries and stuffed them at the goal line. And we all know what they did during the SB run.

Going into the Carolina game last season (through 6 games) the Cards had the #1 ranked rushing defense in the NFL( could have been just the NFC).

What happened to cause the run D to collapse after that is still a mystery to me but at least they have shown the Cards can defense the run with Gabe and some UDFA.
