Consider that Palmer is our QB for the immediate future and the Cardinals are planning to use the first pick on a young QB to groom for the position for the future in a few years...who do you wish we can take at pick 20 in the first round. I want Johnny Manziel for the record. I'm not asking for a critique on why we should not pick who some will now list, I'm just curious who people on this board would like. Just for kicks, who is your boy to guide our future (scary huh, getting the pick wrong even with the new contracts still sets a franchise back) lol

At 20, my pick would be Derek Carr followed by, if he declares, Brett Hundley. Carr is more polished and a better passer at this point but I think with a few years of NFL coaching that Hundley could be a star.

Two that I don't want are Manziel or Boyd.

Zach Mettenberger

He was the third highest rated passer in the country averaging a whopping 10.4 Yards per attempt and most importantly doing it against SEC defenses.

Due to the injury we may be able to grab him in rd2 and sit him for a year or two behind Palmer while he heals and learns from Tom Moore

2013 passer rating

1 Jameis Winston
2 Bryce Petty
3 Zach Mettenberger
4 Teddy Bridgewater
5 Johnny Manziel
6 Marcus Mariota
7 Tajh Boyd
8 AJ McCarron
9 Blake Bortles

13 Aaron Murray
17 David Carr

I think we actually have an ideal situation for a young QB. A good coach, a vet who I think will be supportive and Tom Moore who has a history of developing young signal callers. Let the kid learn under these advantageous conditions :)

None. Palmer just turned 34 three days ago. He can play for at least 3 more years.

Spending any sort of high pick on a QB now would be foolish. Build up the OL, get a decent TE, and enhance our depth at other positions.

The question was not should we, I stated let's say we are...who is the QB which you like. Geez, it is a hypothetical question lol

I understand it is hypothetical, but I don't believe the cost to benefit ratio is there. But let's say it is and someone like Manziel falls to the Cardinals.

Then yes if that is the best guy on the board then take him.

1. Bortles
2. Bridgewater
3. Manziel
4. Carr
5. Hundley

Doubt the Top 4 fall to us at 20. Possibly Hundley but he may not even declare.

Blake Bortles, I think it would be the kid makes the throws at critical points in games when they are needed the most. I think he reads defenses well and has very good vision of the field. These are two of the most difficult things to teach a QB. They are more inherent traits than a learned thing and to me two of the most important things a NFL QB needs.

Was it Bickley who stated that the Cards brass likes Manziel, Bortles and AJ McCarron?

I personally like Aaron Murray -- and with his ACL tear, I think he could be had in the 3rd.

I personally would like to groom a QB for two seasons , giving us adequate time to coach up the finer points ala Steve Mcnair -- Aaron Rogers , but not use a 1'st rnd. pick . I believe the best candidate for that is Roger Staubach Jr. (Jordan Lynch) from Northern Ill. Many are calling him a RB playing QB , because he was 3'rd in the nation in rushing.
I have recorded his last five games 3 wins and 2 losses and have reviewed his passing skills . He seems to be a double edged sword , he could be called a QB with gifted running skills .

I'm supposed to be biased but why are people so high on Hundley? He got better and he's a good kid but he's not accurate and he has no pocket presence. he did learn to take off this year not nearly as many hold the ball and get sacked and then yell at your OL moments, but he just has no feel for pressure he doesn't have that knack of moving away from pressure yet.

The last rumor stuff says he's projected in the 2nd round and his family wants him to come back and go top 10 next season. Selfishly staying at UCLA would make them a really strong contender next year, but from a ready for the NFL standpoint he probably should come back, he's nowhere near ready IMO.

I disagree Farve was 35 when Greenbay Drafted Aaron Rodgers, and no offense to Carson Palmer but he is no Brett Farve. So I think it makes a lot of sense to draft a QBOF this year and develop him the next two years under Palmer, and BA has gone on record as saying he thinks you should draft a QB every year and after not taking one last year I can almost guarantee we will be drafting a QB this year.

As far as Carson Palmer goes, I think he definitely upgraded the position from years past but I think we won many games this year in spite of him, not because of him. This year proved that we can win with him but he definitely needs to step his game up next year and reduce the stupid throws. Some of his decisions were no better than a rookie QB out there.
At the end of the day, I would like the team to go BPA in the first round. If that ends up being one of the QB's that fall, so be it. Otherwise, I would like them to take a QB in round 2 and let him learn behind Carson for one year, maybe more if Carson steps it up a little.

I just can't see Arians starting all over again next year. If Palmer picks up where he left off we should come out of the gates flying. BTW , Palmer had an average qb rqting of around 97.0 since the Atlanta game.

Nobody mentioned any free agents that may be available.

JAy Cutler might be available. EEKS!

Anybody else?

I don't see the point of taking a qb after the first two/three rounds.

I don't see the point of so many people on the post not answering the question of who they would take if they had to in the first round lol

Well you have to go OT in 1.

Most mock drafts have Alabama's A.J. McCarron falling to round 2 or 3. I would take him if he's there.

I would love to draft AJ in the 2nd Rd.
