Who here plays(ed) any musical instruments? If so, which particular instruments (please don't answer the "skin-flute" or "that time in band-camp :)) , brand, and the type of gear you use? Also, if you "self-taught" or took any professional lessons?

I got my 1st electric guitar (a Magnum) on my 7th B-Day, then an Acoustic a couple of years later (forgot the model), and then on my 18th B-Day a Magnum electric bass.... Unfortunately, I never really "mastered"/no longer own any of them......

I do sing and write lyrics....I'll post some if anyone is interested.....

currently i own a Takamine acoustic/electric Santa Fe Limited Edition. very sweet sounding guitar.

come this summer i'll have been playing guitar for 20 years and performing for 18. before guitar i played some violin, piano and percussion/drums.

i've never had a music lesson other than theory and that was in college when i originally attending school to work on a Conducting and Classical Composition degree. i only spent three semesters in college before dropping out and joining the army.

i'm a much better vocalist and lyricist than i am a musician.

I played piano until I was 7. I regret giving it up.. I wish I could still play.

And I had a guitar for about a year when I was 15 but sold it to my friend.

I can't sing or dance.

So basically I don't play anything, sorry. :(

I started playing piano around 5 or 6, I played viola for 2 years in junior high, then picked up guitar right before my 14th birthday.

Recently, for my album, I played guitar, bass, keys, programmed drums, and played cello.

I will play anything with strings :)

Are you still planning to bring your talents to So-cal anytime soon?

I played the flute from elementary school through high school. Was pretty good.

Just got a violin for Christmas. Am planning on taking lessons soon. :)

Yeah..it is obviously a given that you play guitar, but I'm extremely impressed/amazed on how proficient/versatile you are on that c.d. (which I promise to finally review before this week is over).....

I don't know if I've asked you this before....What inspired you to start playing piano..then eventually guitar?

I played the tenor saxophone throughout elementary and high school. Also the alto and baritone. My senior year I played the tuba as a change of pace. I own a tenor sax now that I bought off of ebay, but I really haven't played for many, many years.

Thanks for the compliment. As for what inspired me to play piano, dude, I was 5 :) My parents made me do it! For guitar, I started playing in '93, and I had a few friends that were into Nirvana. I started playing guitar and thought that stuff was cool, but Nirvana was kinda like the "gateway drug" for me to the world of Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, etc. Eventually I heard guys like Joe Satriani and Dream Theater, and each of those groups really inspired me.

Welcome to the board!

I only picked up the saxophone once, however, it wasn't a good experience...

I was around 4 y/o and I actually thought I was strong enough to lift up my cousins's sax.....I wasn't unfortunately, so I ended-up dropping it on my foot...

Anyways.... Do you have a favorite saxophonist? Mine are Lisa Simpson and Bleeding Gums Murphy... JK.... Seriously.... mine are David Sanborn and of course John Coltrane....Definitely not Bill Cilnton, but I'll save that for another forum....:)

KLL, Thanks for the welcome!

I'd say Kenny G, since I have a couple of his CDs, but I have to admit I don't know too many other saxophonists by name. My wife always laughs at me because I can hum along with a ton of songs but I can never remember the artist or the title of the song. So, I may have a favorite that I'd recognize the music of, but I wouldn't recognize their name if my life depended on it. I used to call myself "musically inclined", but that's hard to prove when you can't remember any artists other than the Beach Boys. :bigyawn:

I started playing drums when In was in about 3rd or 4th grade and learned trumpet for a few months during that time also. About 5 or 6 years ago I had a friend teach me guitar and I've been sticking mostly to that. Of all the instruments I picked up guitar the quickest but for some reason bass is difficult for me.
